The Ohio State basketball team returns its entire starting lineup from a disappointing 2015-16 season that saw the Buckeyes end the year in the NIT. That starting five will have a chance to avenge two of their nonconference losses from a year ago during the 2016-17 campaign.
Ohio State announced it's entire nonconference schedule for next season on Tuesday and some schools are repeats from last season. The Buckeyes will face Virginia in the ACC/Big Ten challenge for the second consecutive season, traveling to face the Cavaliers this time around on Nov. 30, and will host Connecticut Dec. 10 as the second game in a home-and-home series with the Huskies.
The Buckeyes lost 68-64 at home to Virginia Dec. 1, the fourth straight loss for Thad Matta's team. While Ohio State returns the balk of its roster from that game, Virginia will be without star Malcolm Brogdon.
Ohio State will host Connecticut -- a team that beat the Buckeyes by 20 in Storrs, Conn., Dec. 12 -- on Dec. 10.
The Buckeyes willa lso face UCLA in Las Vegas in the third edition of the CBSSports Classic.
“With the experience we return from our core group from last season, we’ve put together a non-conference schedule that will challenge our team and put us in a good position for what again is expected to be a very competitive Big Ten Conference schedule,” Matta said in a release. “November matchups against Providence and Virginia as well as back-to-back games against Connecticut and UCLA in December will test our team as we look to grow heading in to Big Ten play.”
