Urban Meyer Updates: Slade Out For Season, Pridgeon Out For 3 Months

Following the first scrimmage of fall camp, Urban Meyer met with the media to discuss the first week of fall camp to kick off Ohio State's media day at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center.

Rain postponed the Ohio State team picture, but Urban Meyer still made his way to the Woody Hayes Athletic Center to meet with the media on Sunday. Entering his fifth season as the head coach of the Buckeyes, Meyer discussed the first week of fall camp, OSU's recent team scrimmage and more. 

  • Meyer said the Buckeyes have nine practices scheduled for the next six days. Added Ohio State had just one double session during the first week. Said he "was very pleased" with the first week of practice. 
  • He said Terry McLaurin and Parris Campbell remind him of Evan Spencer in terms of their leadership and talent abilities. Said they will both contribute this season. 
  • Meyer said Austin Mack is game ready and that "he will play this year." 
  • He added Mike Weber and Curtis Samuel are the top two backs in contention to replace Ezekiel Elliott. Also mentioned Dontre Wilson and Antonio Williams as contributors. 
  • Nick Bosa has not been involved in scrimmage situations yet, as the staff is being safe with his knee. He tore his ACL as a senior in high school. 
  • Meyer said Gareon Conley and Tyquan Lewis are having stellar camps. Said Conley will be a 
  • Darius Slade ruptured his achilles and is out for the year. Malcolm Pridgeon is out for three months with a knee injury as well. 
  • Meyer said Denzel Ward is the fastest player on the team at cornerback. Added Marshon Lattimore is playing well in camp. 
  • Meyer all but announced Jake Hausmann as the No. 2 tight end behind Marcus Baugh. Caught himself slipping a bit saying he has moved ahead of A.J. Alexander. 
  • Meyer would not name Michael Jordan a starter along the offensive line. Said it is still to be determined. 
  • Meyer advocated that the University of Cincinnati should be a member of the Big 12. 
  • He said the defensive line performed well in the teams first scrimmage. Added the Buckeyes named champions, but would not name them. 
  • Noah Brown is about a week away from being back to where he was before the broken leg.
