Countdown To Kickoff: Best Buckeye Ever To Wear No. 8

As the countdown to Ohio State's season opener against Bowling Green gets closer, the Buckeye Sports staff is continuing its Best Buckeye Ever series. We stand just eight days from kickoff, so it is time to reveal our pick for the Best Buckeye Ever to don that number.

We continue on with our Best Buckeye Ever series as we countdown the days until Ohio State kicks off the 2016 season against Bowling Green, and we are now just eight days away.

The list at No. 8 is not as stacked with former stars as you might think, but there are plenty of Buckeyes who have made their mark on Ohio State history while wearing this number.

We will start off with a pair of Buckeyes who both made significant contributions in Ohio State's last two victories in the Rose Bowl. Quarterback Stanley Jackson (1993-97) is probably better known for his constant battle with Joe Germaine to be the full time starter in Columbus. While Germaine was the 1997 Rose Bowl MVP, Jackson was the starting quarterback of that game and opened the scoring of that game with a touchdown pass to David Boston.

While Germaine is probably better known in Buckeye history, Jackson led the Buckeyes in passing that season with 1,298 yards and 12 touchdowns. His 2,660 career passing yards ranks 14th in program history.

The other No. 8 to help the Buckeyes win a Rose Bowl is wide receiver DeVier Posey (2008-11). Perhaps remembered first for his involvement in the memorabilia scandal that ultimately cost Jim Tressel his job, Posey made his impact felt on the field, especially in the 2010 Rose Bowl game.

Posey led all receivers in that game with 101 yards receiving on eight receptions, none more memorable than the last one. Posey's 17 yard touchdown reception midway through the fourth quarter closed the scoring in Ohio State's 26-17 win over Oregon in the Rose Bowl, their first appearance and win in Pasadena since 1997. Posey led the Buckeyes in receiving that season with 828 yards on 60 receptions. His 83 career catches ranks 24th in school history.

Other notable names at No. 8 include quarterback turned wide receiver Rod Gerald (1975-78) and wide receivers Roy Hall (2003-06) and Bobby Olive (1988-90).
