Steve Helwagen has been named as the new managing editor of Bucknuts.com and Bucknuts The Magazine. Mr.Bucknuts, owner of the Bucknuts Media Network announced the addition today.
Helwagen, 35, has spent the last 8-1/2 years as the editor of Buckeye Sports Bulletin and the last seven years as the managing editor of Reds Report.
"We are excited to add Steve to our team," Mr Bucknuts asserted. "We currently run the most exciting Buckeye sports coverage on the internet. Steve will only make it better and make it more complete. Plus, we are looking forward to his coverage and opinions for Bucknuts the Magazine, Ohio's Future Stars, The Bucknuts Radio Hour and The JJ & Jerry High School Sports Show. We're going to have a lot of fun and make it more fun for a lot of fans!" Mr. Bucknuts concluded.
Working for various media outlets, Helwagen has covered OSU athletics for 15 years.
In his capacity at BSB, Helwagen provided day-to-day coverage of OSU football, football recruiting and basketball as well as other aspects of the athletic department. During his tenure at the newspaper, BSB was widely regarded as one of the top college sports fan publications in the country.
Helwagen is considered as one of the leading authorities on OSU football and football recruiting, making numerous local and regional radio and television appearances.
He also helped build the BSB Internet site, which was considered one of the top sites in the Rivals.com network. He plans on bringing many of the regular features, including the War Room column (renamed the Buckeye Grove), the Big Board (a position by position analysis of OSU football and recruiting) and weekly chat sessions with Bucknuts.com subscribers.
The first edition of the Buckeye Grove is set for Thursday. Helwagen's first Bucknuts.com chat session will be at 1:30 p.m. Eastern time on Thursday (check the site on Thursday for access details). There are also plans in the works to institute a second weekly chat on Tuesday evenings.

During his time at BSB, Helwagen received several national awards. In 1997, he was honored in the United States Basketball Writers Association contest in the best news story category for his coverage of OSU's simultaneous firings of basketball coaches Randy Ayers and Nancy Darsch.
In 2000, he was recognized in the Football Writers Association of America writing contest in the best game story category for his coverage of OSU's heartbreaking defeat at Purdue.
Earlier this summer, he received the "Scoop Award" during the annual Rivals.com convention in Nashville for his tireless efforts with the BSB web site.
Helwagen is a native of Circleville, Ohio, and a 1990 graduate of The Ohio State University's school of journalism. While at OSU, he served as sports editor of The Lantern and covered OSU men's basketball.
Upon graduation, he served nearly three full years as the sports editor of The Circleville Herald, winning a handful of statewide writing contest honors.
Helwagen also spent nearly two full years as the managing editor of the Urbana (Ohio) Daily Citizen in 1993-94, again winning a handful of statewide awards.
Helwagen and his wife, Amy Hoovler, reside in Pataskala, Ohio, with their three children, 4-year-old twins Carter and Dolen and 1-year-old daughter Lindey.
