Game Preview: Ohio State vs Bowling Green

Ohio State opens up their fifth season under Urban Meyer Saturday with a home game against Bowling Green. What should Buckeye Nation expect to see?

WILL OSU COME OUT FIRING? The 2015 Buckeyes were the most talented team in the country, yet they played home games earlier in the year with powers like Hawaii, Northern Illinois and Western Michigan as if they were asleep. How will Meyer attack this game from a motivational standpoint? Can he afford to let this year's squad "ease into" this season? I don't believe he can take that approach with a young team.

CAN BG CHALLENGE OSU? Last year's Falcon team could have lined up and moved the ball on the great Buckeye defense. Quarterback Matt Johnson, runningback Travis Greene, and wide receivers Gehrig Deiter and Roger Lewis were better than anyone Ohio State faced in most of the early games last season. But those guys are gone. And dynamic head coach Dino Babers has left for Syracuse, taking that high powered offense with him. I know Mike Jinks wants to play up-tempo at Bowling Green, but I'm not sure he has the bullets in the chamber this season.

WHAT WILL OSU DO OFFENSIVELY? While there might be two and possibly three quarterbacks playing against Bowling Green, it won't be like last year when Cardale Jones and J.T. Barrett played scared. Against Bowling Green, Barrett has no worries about losing his job, so he will dominate them early in the game. Meyer should be able to get Joey Burrow and Dwayne Haskins playing time as well, and it won't be to run out the clock in my opinion. It will be to develop confidence and score points. This offense should not be challenged much, and I'm expecting to see 50+ points on the board.

WHAT WILL OSU DO DEFENSIVELY? I think we are going to see at least ten defensive linemen, maybe more, so Bowling Green will not be able to run the ball on a hot day. Fresh linemen should kill the run. They will throw it 50 times, which should lead to two or three picks, including a pick-six by Gareon Conley. I don't think Ohio State will shut BG out, but I don't see them scoring more than 14-17 points.

THE OFFENSIVE "WOW" PLAYER: I'm going with Curtis Samuel, and I think he ends up with 150 yards total and scores three touchdowns.

THE DEFENSIVE "WOW" PLAYER: Let's take a shot at Tyquan Lewis being a monster off the edge and landing a couple sacks, as well as helping control the running game.

PRINT OUT THE ROSTER: There are going to be lots of new faces out there. There are 45 freshmen and redshirt freshmen making their debuts against BG, so have a numerical roster handy. You aren't going to recognize the numbers.

THE LINE: The over/under total of 67 seems to be right on the money, and I have this game falling pretty close to that number. The 27 point spread however seems like a number you could attack. I know this is the most inexperienced team in the country. I know OSU flopped around last year against the two MAC teams. I think Meyer wants to let college football know this team is good, and I think he wants this team to feel they're good. I don't think the gas pedal gets lifted because he's facing his former school. I would give the 27 and take a shot on Meyer dropping the pimp hand down on the Falcons, and it's a Take It To The Bank special.

THE PREDICTION: OHIO STATE 52    Bowling Green 13
