Urban Meyer: J.T. Barrett Nearing Tim Tebow Level In Terms Of Leadership

Following a 58-0 thrashing of Rutgers on Saturday, Urban Meyer met with the media Monday morning to recap the game against the Scarlet Knights and preview the Buckeyes upcoming matchup against Indiana.

Following a game in which J.T. Barrett broke the school record for touchdown passes in a career against Rutgers, Urban Meyer met with the media to put the Homecoming win to bed and preview Ohio State's upcoming matchup against Indiana. 

  • Meyer announced champions for the win over Rutgers. On offense, Barrett, Mike Weber, Curtis Samuel, Parris Campbell, Terry McLaurin, Marcus Baugh, Pat Elflein, Billy Price, Jamarco Jones, Isaiah Prince and Michael Jordan earned mentions as champions. Defensively, Jalyn Holmes, Sam Hubbard, Tyquan Lewis, Chris Worley, Gareon Conley, Marshon Lattimore, Denzel Ward and Malik Hooker were champions. Scout team players of the week were Joshua Alabi and Antonio Williams. Barrett and Weber were named offensive players of the game. Damon Arnette named special teams player of the week. Defensive player of the week went to the entire defense. 
  • Meyer said Baugh played his best game as a Buckeye yet against Rutgers. 
  • Meyer said Barrett is "very close" to being at Tim Tebow level in terms of his leadership. 
  • Linebacker Dante Booker is listed as probable for the game against Indiana. 
  • After playing him against Rutgers, Meyer said Binjimen Victor, "is going to be a player here." 
  • Meyer said he sees more Carlos Hyde in Mike Weber than Ezekiel Elliott. Said Weber currently lacks top-end speed like Elliott had. 
  • Meyer said the current Indiana team is the best Hoosier team he will have gone against since coming to Ohio State. 
  • Meyer said he was worried about how his team would come out against Rutgers coming off a bye week and the Oklahoma win. He said the 58-0 win is a credit to the leadership of the team. 
  • Meyer said Robert Landers is playing well. He added Dre'Mont Jones needs to improve. 
  • Meyer mentioned last years loss to Michigan State when discussing having a balanced offense. Said just because a team can stop the run does not mean you give up on it altogether.
