Ohio State Buckeyes Check In At No. 6 In College Football Playoff Standings

Ohio State has enjoyed a 7-1 start to the season, including road wins over top-15 teams Oklahoma and Wisconsin.

Ohio State may have suffered its first loss of the season a couple weeks earlier, but the Buckeyes are still well within striking distance for the third College Football Playoff.

Ohio State (7-1, 4-1 Big Ten) checked in at No. 6 in the first edition of the 2016 College Football Playoff standings, which were announced Tuesday evening on ESPN. The Buckeyes won the first-ever playoff in the 2014-15 season after ranking 16th in the first CFP poll that season.

The top four consisted of top ranked Alabama followed by Clemson, Michigan and Texas A&M, while Washington was one spot ahead of the Buckeyes at No. 5. Joining Ohio State and Michigan in the full top 25 from the Big Ten were Penn State – the team Ohio State lost to – at No. 12, Nebraska (No. 10) and Wisconsin (No. 8).

With four games remaining on the regular season slate, Ohio State would more than likely be in the Big Ten title game if it wins out. A win in Indianapolis would likely lead to a spot in the playoffs for Urban Meyer's team. The Buckeyes are set to take on Nebraska in a top-10 matchup Saturday night at Ohio Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 8 p.m.
