Urban Meyer Updates: Ohio State Linebacker Dante Booker 'On Call' If Needed

Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer met with the media to recap the Nebraska blowout and preview the Buckeyes upcoming trip to Maryland.

Urban Meyer kicked off his annual Monday press conference by announcing champions before recapping the Nebraska win and looking forward to the Buckeyes upcoming trip to Maryland.

  • A total of 28 Buckeyes were named champions against Nebraska. Players of the week were Curtis Samuel, Malik Hooker, Sam Hubbard and Jordan Fuller.
  • Meyer said Curtis Samuel will get the first crack at punt returner in practice this week. He added Demario McCall, K.J. Hill and Dontre Wilson are all still in the mix.
  • Meyer said every time he sees Malik Hooker with the ball in his hands, he has an urge to put him on offense and pitch it to him on the edge.
  • Meyer said he thought the wide receivers played their best game by far against Northwestern. Added that K.J. Hill is getting better each week and earning more playing time.
  • Meyer said Dante Booker is "on call" if needed. Added he is not sure if Booker is a medical redshirt candidate just yet.
  • Meyer said the offensive line is much improved after two solid performances against Northwestern and Nebraska. He added the emphasis has been on pass protection in practice.
  • Meyer said he has a good relationship with Maryland head coach D.J. Durkin. Durkin was Meyer's graduate assistant at Bowling Green and special teams coordinator at Florida.
  • Meyer said that the message to his team will be that the Nebraska game will mean little if they don't defeat Maryland.
  • Meyer said there is 'no-chance' of his players looking forward to the Michigan game with two games remaining before The Game.
  • Meyer said Demario McCall still has to work on his ball security and physical strength to get more reps.
