Urban Meyer Updates: J.T. Barrett Is 'One Of The Best'

Urban Meyer met with the media to recap the Michigan State game and look ahead to Ohio State's upcoming matchup against Michigan.

Ahead of the biggest matchup of the season, Urban Meyer met with the media for the only time during Michigan week. Meyer will not meet with the media on Wednesday due to the Thanksgiving holiday. 

  • Meyer named champions from the Michigan State game. Defense - Jalyn Holmes, Chris Worley, Sam Hubbard, Tyquan Lewis, Raekwon McMillan, Gareon Conley and Denzel Ward. Offense - Curtis Samuel and Noah Brown. 
  • Players of the game: Defense - Holmes and Worley. Special teams - Terry McLaurin. There was no listed offensive player of the game. 
  • Mike Weber was named the Big Ten freshman of the week after his 111 rushing yard performance against Michigan State. 
  • Meyer said he thought the last couple of weeks in pass protection have been good. 
  • Meyer said he is very proud of the way his staff has developed their recruits since he has arrived on campus. 
  • Meyer said "you can always count on that team having really good players," when speaking of Michigan. "They are a very good team, very talented."
  • Meyer said his first memory of The Game was in the 1970's. His mother pulled him away from the TV to run errands at a mall. He said he could not keep his attention away from the loud speaker in the mall that was updating the game. 
  • Meyer said Pat Elflein is one of the best players and leaders he has ever had. Added Senior Tackle will be tough for him later this week. 
  • Meyer on quarterback J.T. Barrett considering wins and stats: "easily makes him one of the greatest quarterbacks probably to play the game."
  • Meyer said he remembers Jim Harbaugh's guarantee from the 1986 game in which he was a GA at Ohio State. 
  • Meyer joked that if he ever had any more children, he would name them "Burger" and "Fada" after OSU walk on's Joe Burger and Craig Fada. 
  • Meyer said after watching Gareon Conley play basketball and meeting his family, he knew he wanted to bring him to Columbus. Conley was originally a Michigan commit. 
  • "I appreciate rivalries probably more than most," Meyer said of his experience in rivalry games. Said he thinks he picked that up from watching Woody Hayes and Bo Schembechler. 
  • Meyer said he never got to speak with Woody Hayes about the rivalry before his death. Said he did get to speak with Schembechler before his passing in 2006.
