PHOENIX - After a few days off, the Ohio State football team arrived in the desert Monday night ahead of its New Year’s Eve matchup against Clemson in the PlayStation Fiesta Bowl.
The Buckeyes touched down at the Phoenix airport around 6:30 local time, and Urban Meyer said his team has turned its attention to the Tigers after spending the holidays with friends and family.
“We are here for a reason. We are here to enjoy the sunshine and the desert, but most importantly to put on a good performance against a great football team in Clemson,” Meyer said. “I couldn’t imagine being in a better place with a better group of people.”
Meyer also recalled his prior experiences with the Fiesta Bowl, having led three different teams to victories in the desert.
Meyer added that one player did not travel with the team due to illness, but added that player is scheduled to join the team tomorrow. Meyer did not specify who did not make the trip with the team.
Ohio State is set to open its game week practice at Notre Dame Prep High School at approximately 12:15 MT on Tuesday.
