Former Ohio State assistant coach Lou Holtz and NIKE Inc. Chairman Emeritus Phil Knight are set to join the Buckeye football program April 15 for the schools 2017 Spring Game at Ohio Stadium as guest coaches.
Holtz, perhaps best known for his time as head coach for the Notre Dame football program (1986-96), has also been a mentor of sorts for Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer, who was an assistant for Holtz in South Bend, Ind. As for Knight's connection, Ohio State is one of the premier NIKE schools in the country and spoke to the Buckeyes following its Nov. 26 win over Michigan.
“I am very close to each of these individuals and I have enjoyed their friendship over many years,” Meyer said, “but even more I respect the impact they have had on Ohio State and college football. I am looking forward to having Coach Holtz and Phil Knight on our campus as guest coaches, and I am very appreciative they want to take part in and support our spring game.”
The Ohio State Spring Game is set for April 15 at 12:30 p.m. During last seasons Spring Game, Ohio State set the national attendance record for a spring contest as 100,189 people attended the scrimmage in 2016.
