Observations From Ohio State's 6th Spring Practice

Ohio State took the field for the sixth time this spring March 28.

Ohio State's sixth spring practice got underway Tuesday morning at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center and what follows are observations made from the first hour of practice that was open to the media.

  • Running back Antonio Williams and linebacker Baron Browning were not seen practicing as they both nurse minor injuries.
  • Tight end Marcus Baugh and defensive lineman Jonathon Cooper were in full pads, but were relegated to just running laps as they also work their way back from minor injuries.
  • The quarterback play was slightly inconsistent, but J.T. Barrett was the most consistent of the four. Joe Burrow threw a couple of interceptions in 'mini-field' 7-on-7 drill and in 1-on-1's and Dwayne Haskins under threw one deep pass by about 10 yards and had it broken up by Jordan Fuller. Tate Martell also threw an interception, but looked more comfortable than he did week one of practice.
  • Parris Campbell stood out, making multiple tough catches and impressive route running.
  • Kendall Sheffield appeared to struggle at times, getting called for pass interference on a walk-on wide receiver in 1-on-1 drills. He was matched up with Terry McLaurin and Binjimen Victor most times in 'mini-field' and lost the majority of those battles.
  • Linebacker Justin Hilliard practiced with an orange jersey and a brace on his left bicep. In the past, the orange jerseys at Ohio State usually mean a player is limited in certain drills, but allowed to practice in others. KJ Hill wore one most of last year when he was coming back from a wrist injury.
  • Eric Glover-Williams was used a lot out of the slot receiver position and ran mostly bubble and screen routes in the period open to the media.
  • Demario McCall worked mostly with the running backs again, not spending much time with the wide receivers.
  • Running back recruit Tavion Thomas was in attendance for practice.
  • Jeff Okudah was seen wearing No. 48. He is listed on Ohio State's official spring practice roster as wearing the No. 1.
