Just two days after Ohio State decided to part ways with head men's basketball coach Thad Matta, a big name has emerged in the Buckeyes' coaching search.

Matta spent 13 years at Ohio State as one of the most successful coaches in program history. He holds school records for wins and games coached and led his team to a pair of Final Fours. In more recent seasons, though, the Buckeyes began to struggle on the court.
Recruiting also played a big role in Matta's firing. The entire 2015 recruiting class – which consisted of five highly-rated players – has since left the program. The Buckeyes signed two players in 2017 and had just two commits for 2018 at the time Matta was let go. A day later, three-star forward Justin Ahrens decommitted as well.
