Less than a week into his new job as the head coach of the Ohio State men's basketball team, Chris Holtmann is already showing he means business.
Holtmann, who was hired on June 9 to replace Thad Matta, suspended redshirt freshman forward Derek Funderburk Thursday for "failure to meet team expectations," according to the press release issued by Ohio State.
Funderburk played three years of high school hoops at Lakewood (Ohio) St. Edward before transferring to Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, Va., for his final year at the prep level.
The 6-9, 205-pounder redshirted the 2016-17 season at Ohio State as a true freshman and has four years of eligibility remaining.
No timetable for the length of the suspension was given.
