One of the best big athletes in the state of Pennsylvania is Beaver's Rory Nicol. Nicol, who stands at 6-5 and weighs about 243, is quite an impressive physical specimen, as evidenced by his track accomplishments.
"I run the 110 high hurdles," he said. "I ran a 15.8."
Rory currently says his list stands at eight schools, all of which have offered. "Pitt, Ohio State, Penn State, Virginia, Tennessee, North Carolina, Iowa, and Boston College" are the schools he is focusing on.
Rory was at OSU for spring practice and was offered at that time.
Right now, Rory is in the process of setting up visits, but he doesn't plan on starting his visits before December.
"I want to have all my visits set up by early October," he said.
Ohio State recruiting coordinator Bill Conley is coming out to Nicol's game against Aliquippa. Rory says this is a huge game for his team.
"Aliquippa is good every year," he said. "This is a conference game. We're both 4-0. We're #1 in the state.
"It's a huge game for us. The last win over Aliquippa's in the mid '90s. They have a lot of good speed guys."
Rory has played other sports in the past, but he is talking about focusing on football.
"I played basketball in the past, but I'm probably not going to this year," he said. "I want to get in the weight room."
How are the Buckeyes' chances? It might be early to tell, but Nicol does know a lot about the team and the players.
"I actually know a lot about Ohio State," he said. "I've been there more than a few times. The trainer at my school is an Ohio State grad. He still talks to people there.
"I was down for the Minnesota game my sophomore year and Penn State my junior year. My mother was just talking about us getting down for a game this year. Maybe Iowa."
One of Rory's favorite places on campus is the Varsity Club.
"They have a sandwich there... I love it," he said.
Interest is picking up for Canton GlenOak lineman Nick Smith is starting to pick up.
"(Ohio State running backs coach) Tim Spencer came to my game last Friday. Coach Bollman (OSU offensive coordinator/OL coach) called to tell me he would be there. I saw him."
"North Carolina State contacted me. They want me to visit now too."
Nick said Ohio State told him that he's "still very much a possible offer."
"I'm coming down to the (Ohio State/Northwestern) game Saturday," Nick said. "They told me to bring tape."
