Recruiting Updates - Gary Russell, Izzy Bauta

Two players who attended the OSU/Purdue game this past weekend were Columbus Walnut Ridge RB Gary Russell and Brooklyn, NY OL Izzy Bauta. We have quick updates on each.

Could Columbus Walnut Ridge star Gary Russell be the third running back in this year's Ohio State recruiting class? It's early to tell, but Ohio State is showing renewed interest.

"Yes, I was in for the Purdue game," he said. "Yes, Ohio State is coming back on me. Coach Conley has been recruiting me again. They are waiting for my test score and my grades.

"I took the test October 23. They told me four to seven weeks for results. My core shouldn't be a problem. It's 2.93 right now."

Gary has already set up two other visits - Ohio on 12/5 and Minnesota on 12/19.

"I'm also looking at Michigan, Indiana, Penn State, and Colorado," he said. "I might look at USC too."

What if Ohio State offers him a scholarship?

"I'm gonna take it!" he said.

Another player at Ohio State this weekend was Brooklyn (NY) Poly Prep OL Izzy Bauta. Bauta's head coach filled us in on the latest.

"Izzy went to Maryland on Thursday for an official visit," said coach Craig Jacoby. "He then came up to Ohio State for an unofficial. He met Coach Snyder as well as Coach Bollman and Coach Tressel. He will come back for an official. No date set, but we are looking at a date in December.

"It was interesting for him to see the schools that are likely at the top of his list just days apart. His Maryland visit was an official visit. He came to the Ohio State game because he wanted his dad to see a game with him."
