Hey everybody, I just made it. I am not using my normal computer, so I may have some performance issues. Please be patient if I drop off and you may need to repeat some ???
SteveHelwagen (Nov 20, 2003 3:02:44 PM)
fire when ready, Gridly
buckeyefan47 (Nov 20, 2003 3:03:38 PM)
steve, only 1 day 21 hours and 6 minutes until kickoff!
RochBuck (Nov 20, 2003 3:03:41 PM)
Steve, I was reading up on The Game. Michigan's punt unit is pretty weak. What do you think of a strategy to try to block punts on the first several punts. Hopefully we can shake them up like Oregon did . . . Thoughts?
RochBuck (Nov 20, 2003 3:04:09 PM)
It's not like we get a lot of yards on returns, anyway.
SteveHelwagen (Nov 20, 2003 3:04:35 PM)
RochBuck, I agree. I think the OSU punt block unit needs to sharpen its teeth and get after them. They are shaky at best. OSU can'tafford to rough the punter, but they need to get after them.
SteveHelwagen (Nov 20, 2003 3:04:47 PM)
47, yes, it is imminent. Going to be a great one.
RochBuck (Nov 20, 2003 3:05:00 PM)
I'm especially hoping it will pay off at the end of the game. Could be a big momentum thing.
SteveHelwagen (Nov 20, 2003 3:05:19 PM)
RochBuck, I agree. Could this be Buckeye Block Party II?
buckeyefan47 (Nov 20, 2003 3:05:27 PM)
Steve, what are true thoughts on the outcome of THE game?
RochBuck (Nov 20, 2003 3:05:32 PM)
Let's hope so. :-)
SteveHelwagen (Nov 20, 2003 3:05:59 PM)
47, I picked OSU 13-10. I see another great defensive struggle, just like last week.
Wizzle (Nov 20, 2003 3:06:26 PM)
If the game is close going into the 4th quarter, I like the buckeyes chances
buckeyefan47 (Nov 20, 2003 3:06:40 PM)
I got 17 - 10 but I maybe a little overselous in ,y pick!
RochBuck (Nov 20, 2003 3:06:59 PM)
On a similar note, I think, in spite of Michigan's talent at wide out, that we should be blitzing early and often. It's pretty effective against the rush and I expect Michigan to try to establish the run early.
SteveHelwagen (Nov 20, 2003 3:07:18 PM)
Wizzle, I agree. OSU has made a living on tough games. Michigan has not won a bunch of tight games like OSU has. Advantage OSU.
buckeyefan47 (Nov 20, 2003 3:07:29 PM)
Wizzle excellent point, I like the bucks all the way
RochBuck (Nov 20, 2003 3:07:41 PM)
The key, to me it to take the crowd out and try to create some doubt in their minds about the losing streak extending to 0-3
Wizzle (Nov 20, 2003 3:08:28 PM)
Pressure on Navarre is crucial, put an extra man in the box more than usual to get that extra pressure, otherwise we could see a repeat of the N.C. State game of Rivers picking us apart
buckeyefan47 (Nov 20, 2003 3:08:52 PM)
The Quiet house has not been in to many games lately, look at the 2001 game after OSU jumped out early!
SteveHelwagen (Nov 20, 2003 3:08:56 PM)
RochBuck, I think UM will try and establish the run. But I can't imagine them breaking loose against this defense. Navarre takes a deep drop and likes to stand in the pocket. I think the usual pass rush may be effective. DBs may need help with Edwards (wow) and Avant (also wow).
RochBuck (Nov 20, 2003 3:09:02 PM)
Wizzle, I agree completely. He can and has been flustered in big games. We need to break him down to a quivering mass.
SteveHelwagen (Nov 20, 2003 3:09:36 PM)
And, yes, an early OSU score could plant that seed of doubt and also take the 111,800 out of the game.
RochBuck (Nov 20, 2003 3:09:37 PM)
Steve, I agree. I'm actually most afraid of Breaston. Didn't he torch Ohio in the Big 33 two years ago?
buckeyefan47 (Nov 20, 2003 3:09:40 PM)
Steve, do you see a lot of off the edge blitzing with everett, and allen?
SteveHelwagen (Nov 20, 2003 3:10:15 PM)
RochBuck, Breaston is a nice player, but I don't think he's the guy who will get off in scrimmage situations. I am more concerned with Edwards and Avant.
SteveHelwagen (Nov 20, 2003 3:10:55 PM)
47, that is possible. OSU will vary the package and change things up the entire game to try and keep UM off guard. You name it you're going to see it. But they do, indeed, have to get after Navarre.
Mike68 (Nov 20, 2003 3:11:02 PM)
Hello everyone. Go Bucks!
buckeyefan47 (Nov 20, 2003 3:11:13 PM)
Mike68 (Nov 20, 2003 3:11:17 PM)
buckeyefan47 (Nov 20, 2003 3:11:33 PM)
that a boy 68 keep up the spirit!
RochBuck (Nov 20, 2003 3:11:34 PM)
Steve, it's mostly Breaston's after catch ability that I fear. . . If we do blitz and he gets man coverage . . .
RochBuck (Nov 20, 2003 3:11:52 PM)
SteveHelwagen (Nov 20, 2003 3:12:03 PM)
RochBuck, yes, that is an issue but I think Salley, Allen and Whitner help negate that. Avant is huge after the catch, too.
Mike68 (Nov 20, 2003 3:12:17 PM)
Steve- Do think that it is possible that Flydell can have a monster game (over 150 yards) given scUM's weekness against the run (as shown in the Minny game)
buckeyefan47 (Nov 20, 2003 3:12:18 PM)
Steve I believe everett has the chance to make a impact on breaston as a rover what dp you say to that one?
SteveHelwagen (Nov 20, 2003 3:13:09 PM)
Mike68, no, I don't see Lydell in the 150 range. Sorry. I think 80 puts OSU in a range where it can win the game. Anything more than that would make that chance much better, obviously.
RochBuck (Nov 20, 2003 3:13:34 PM)
Steve, Sorry to bomb you with questions. I'm on vacation today so I'm a V!rg!n. Where's UM's weakness on the OL? Is there a side we'd overload to blitz?
SteveHelwagen (Nov 20, 2003 3:13:37 PM)
47, yes, Everett is really starting to show what he can do. Breaston only goes 180 pounds. They need to make him pay for catching balls over the middle.
RochBuck (Nov 20, 2003 3:13:50 PM)
I mean it's my first time in Chat . ..
Mike68 (Nov 20, 2003 3:14:00 PM)
Steve- Based upon scUM's punting woes, I feel that this may one area of the return game where we break through this week. Do you agree?
buckeyefan47 (Nov 20, 2003 3:14:07 PM)
with that said look out for Mr. Salley than to Breaston!
Wizzle (Nov 20, 2003 3:14:13 PM)
Steve, do you think it's finally time for Tressel to use some trick plays like the one Orton pulled on us, I think if we mix it up alittle bit and show UM something they havn't seen before in our offense, we will succeed
frickinbucknuttyintoledo (Nov 20, 2003 3:15:01 PM)
Steve, what do you think is the single most important factor for the BUCKS to win the game...shutting down Perry, the passing game, turnovers, Krenzel, or our running game?
buckeyefan47 (Nov 20, 2003 3:15:09 PM)
does anyone believe the wr. screens can play a huge roll in keepind scUM off balance, also bringing gamble out of the backfield?
SteveHelwagen (Nov 20, 2003 3:15:13 PM)
RochBuck, I think the left side with Stenavich at tackle is the more vulnerable than Pape's side on the right. Baas I think is also on the left at guard. Stenavich stands for stationary. Pape and Lentz on the other side are pretty good.
SteveHelwagen (Nov 20, 2003 3:16:02 PM)
Mike68, oh I don't know. OSU doesn't seem to have any kind of return game, whatsoever. Jenkins gives them the best shot.
SteveHelwagen (Nov 20, 2003 3:16:49 PM)
Wizzle, there will be some extra wrinkles, but I have no idea what they might be. I wouldn't look for a lot of deviations to the plan, run the ball and throw if you must.
RochBuck (Nov 20, 2003 3:17:35 PM)
buckeyefan47 . . . Sounds like a good plan to me. They haven't been all that effective for us, but I could see Michigan trying to play zone to prevent the big play on us. We don't do that a lot so a new wrinkle is always good.
SteveHelwagen (Nov 20, 2003 3:18:01 PM)
frickin..., the biggest thing is slowing down Perry. That puts the game in Navarre's hands. He averages 3 TOs a game against OSU. I'm counting on him for 2. So Perry and the turnovers are key. I think OSU's offense will be fine. Should be around 140 total rushing and 200 passing. That may be enough to win.
Wizzle (Nov 20, 2003 3:18:28 PM)
This is going to sound crazy but it's my strong opinion, I say the person that gives the bucks the best on the return is Santonio Holmes. He's not only got the breakaway speed, but he can cut on a dime like he has done to juke defenders after the catch previsouly this season
SteveHelwagen (Nov 20, 2003 3:18:53 PM)
47, Yes, I'd like to see screens to Holmes (aka the Freak) and Branden Joe, in particular. They may need to play the Gamble trump card, too.
buckeyefan47 (Nov 20, 2003 3:18:53 PM)
also a three man backfield with hamby, joe, and ross with to split would be beautiful and punishing with alot of options we ran this toledo when I played there running some stretch and wheels as well
buckeyefan47 (Nov 20, 2003 3:20:01 PM)
gamble is a key, he will have some impact on diversion with holmes stretching a jenkins crossing what about that steve?
SteveHelwagen (Nov 20, 2003 3:20:13 PM)
Wizzle, this ain't the time to experiment with Holmes back there. He's the answer next year, but for now leave sure-handed Jenkins back there, field it and get the ball to Craig.
Wizzle (Nov 20, 2003 3:20:46 PM)
Maybe have Jenkins catch it then flip it back to Holmes, hahaha
SteveHelwagen (Nov 20, 2003 3:20:57 PM)
47, yes, I'd love to see Gamble, Holmes and Jenkins inthe game together for 20 plays and just see what happens. Hopefully it won't take a 14-0 deficit to see it.
RochBuck (Nov 20, 2003 3:20:59 PM)
buckeyefan47. . . following up on Gamble. Tressel likes to have stuff no one has seen. Do we thow a lot of Gamble at them since he hasn't seen much O this year?
RochBuck (Nov 20, 2003 3:21:24 PM)
Ditto what Steve said.
buckeyefan47 (Nov 20, 2003 3:21:38 PM)
Steve, and whoever else, if ck is as accurate and leading joe on screens out of the backfield, I see a posssible bick win for OSU?
SteveHelwagen (Nov 20, 2003 3:22:00 PM)
RochBuck, nobody asked Tressel about Gamble on offense specifically, but I have to believe they pull out all the stops here. Maybe he is the wrinkle. They put him in the 5-wide set instead of a TE or RB, like everybody has been clamoring.
Wizzle (Nov 20, 2003 3:22:04 PM)
Speaking of reveivers, is anyone as excited as I am to get that Dajauan Morgon kid from florida, every major school in the country was recruiting him
SteveHelwagen (Nov 20, 2003 3:22:24 PM)
47, I agree, it's time to get Joe integrated.
Mike68 (Nov 20, 2003 3:22:29 PM)
Steve you listed the Bucks getting about 350 yds of offense, how many yards of O do you see scUM getting (run/pass)?
RochBuck (Nov 20, 2003 3:22:38 PM)
Wizzle... I'm excited. Could be a steal. He didn't play his senior year due to injury.
buckeyefan47 (Nov 20, 2003 3:22:42 PM)
2! just joking 68
SteveHelwagen (Nov 20, 2003 3:22:45 PM)
Wizzle, his coach raved about him. N.C. State, Oklahoma and I think Florida were also in the running.
Wizzle (Nov 20, 2003 3:23:09 PM)
Rochbuck, that's what i'm saying, he was gettin recruited by those school BEFORE his senior year
RochBuck (Nov 20, 2003 3:23:34 PM)
Anyone else notice that 3 star florida kids seem to be more like 4-5 star Ohio kids sometimes? I think Gamble was a 3 star guy.
buckeyefan47 (Nov 20, 2003 3:23:38 PM)
first kid to get anthony carter's # since he played there morgan is huge pickup!
Wizzle (Nov 20, 2003 3:23:38 PM)
And now there is talk that Reid is going to take an official to O St the 19th
RochBuck (Nov 20, 2003 3:23:46 PM)
Morgan's a 3 star guy.
SteveHelwagen (Nov 20, 2003 3:23:53 PM)
68, I may be optimistic, but they probably end up around the same totals, maybe more passing, like 110 rushing and 250 passing, because they'll need to throw the ball more.
RochBuck (Nov 20, 2003 3:24:17 PM)
I like our chances if Navarre has to throw 40+ times
Mike68 (Nov 20, 2003 3:24:37 PM)
I'll take giving up 350 yards if we can get 2-3 TO's from Bellasari, I mean Navarre
Mike68 (Nov 20, 2003 3:25:46 PM)
I want to see Navarre getting up slower and slower each down at the end of the game and knowing that his career at scUM has been a total failure since he went Ofer against the Bucks! Pass out the gold pants!
SteveHelwagen (Nov 20, 2003 3:26:46 PM)
68, that is the key, Smith and Scott and Fraser and Kudla and Anderson just need to stay after the big guy.
RochBuck (Nov 20, 2003 3:27:29 PM)
Steve, I've seen some comments that Krenzel has not been as consistent this year as last. My opinion is the early SDSU Int threw him off, confidence-wise and then the arm injury and then the PSU hit . . . I was at the Purdue game and he didn't look too crisp there either. Do you think these are the reasons or is he maybe pressing because the run is not there . . . just curious about your thoughts on the reasons.
RochBuck (Nov 20, 2003 3:27:52 PM)
And . . . does he get it straight in his home state.
Mike68 (Nov 20, 2003 3:28:46 PM)
Steve- Does another loss to tOSU begin to put Carr in the position where he needs to win in '04 or he could begin to really feel the heat despite the fact that he wins 9 games every year?
DCBuck (Nov 20, 2003 3:29:07 PM)
Steve, now that Joe is healthy at FB, do you think we're going to see much more of him in this game. Seems Ross is much better when he's in the line-up
SteveHelwagen (Nov 20, 2003 3:29:09 PM)
RochBuck, well the dynamics this year are terribly different. There is no threat of Reecie running the ball. That's the first thing. Defense can tee off on OSU because of that and play more zone with help on the WRs. Fewer guys are open because , up until 3 weeks ago, there was no threat of OSU running the ball effectively. Then, yes, CK has been beaten up. He's missed 2-1/2 games. That hurts your consistency, certainly.
SteveHelwagen (Nov 20, 2003 3:30:19 PM)
RochBuck, you want to believe he'll have it against UM. The answer will be here soon enough. This is a good but not great UM defense (i.e. they don't hold a candle to the 97 defense). So opportunity will be there. He just needs to find it and take advantage.
RochBuck (Nov 20, 2003 3:30:34 PM)
I agree, running game will certainly help. Hopefully the OL can give him time.
Wizzle (Nov 20, 2003 3:30:39 PM)
Sorry to look ahead guys, but I heard talk that even if OSU beats Michigan, there is still a chance that we don't go to the Sugar Bowl, how is that Possible??!!!
RochBuck (Nov 20, 2003 3:31:00 PM)
I'm not ready to call for Scott unless we're down a couple TD's in the 4th.
SteveHelwagen (Nov 20, 2003 3:31:21 PM)
68, I think Carr is entrenched. That title and Bo's approval of him gives him a lot of credit to borrow off of. If they lose a 4th straight game to OSU next year, then look out. But OSU needs to win the third straight time first (VBG)
Mike68 (Nov 20, 2003 3:31:37 PM)
Wizzle- Because SC's strentgh of schedule will rise somewhat and may be enough to jump us back. We really need an LSU loss to guarantee us.
SteveHelwagen (Nov 20, 2003 3:32:10 PM)
DCBuck, yes, I think you'll see some of Joe. They still want to run single back quite a bit with 2 TEs. But if Joe gets 50 percent of the plays, that would be fine with me.
Wizzle (Nov 20, 2003 3:32:16 PM)
this BCS is chaotic
RochBuck (Nov 20, 2003 3:32:20 PM)
Steve, Why no mention of Will Allen for All-Big Ten? I think he's done a great job and he certainly covers better than Mike Doss...
DCBuck (Nov 20, 2003 3:32:21 PM)
hey, the University of Spoiled Children is lucky to just be mentioned in the top 5 of the bcs
Mike68 (Nov 20, 2003 3:32:21 PM)
I'm taking back all of the fun that I have poked at the state of Mississippi over the years for this week. Long live the Mannings!
BuckisGod (Nov 20, 2003 3:32:45 PM)
BuckisGod (Nov 20, 2003 3:33:07 PM)
Go ole MIss! Stomp on LSU-
RochBuck (Nov 20, 2003 3:33:13 PM)
I'm not up for Nick Saban spoiling our fun again like '98
Wizzle (Nov 20, 2003 3:33:31 PM)
I want Manning to be the outright frontrunner for the Heisman after his game this week
BuckisGod (Nov 20, 2003 3:33:34 PM)
one question- I dont know if it is already mentioned on this chat- What is the status on Chris Gamble and Troy Smith?
SteveHelwagen (Nov 20, 2003 3:33:55 PM)
Wizzle, well anything is possible regarding the BCS. Maybe if Oklahoma lost that would upset the applecart and help out USC and/or LSU. I don't know. But OSU's SOS and computer numbers, with a win, will be hard to beat with just the AP/ESPN poll advantage.
Mike68 (Nov 20, 2003 3:34:02 PM)
Does anyone else get sick when Saban is mentioned as some great genuis of a coach? What has he ever won. He's just a job-jumper IMO.
BuckisGod (Nov 20, 2003 3:34:40 PM)
I did get sick upon mention of Saban heh
Mike68 (Nov 20, 2003 3:34:42 PM)
Steve- In your honest opinion do you think we can jump LSU in either poll if both teams win this week.
RochBuck (Nov 20, 2003 3:35:07 PM)
The Browns D was pretty good when he was D Coordinator under Belichick
Wizzle (Nov 20, 2003 3:35:12 PM)
Mike i'm sorry to say that will not happen
SteveHelwagen (Nov 20, 2003 3:35:13 PM)
RochBuck, I had Will Allen on my second team I believe. I think the guys I picked for the first team (Sanders, Gamble, Jackson and Leonhard, I think) are the four best DBs in the league. I had Allen and Fox I believe on the second team.
RochBuck (Nov 20, 2003 3:35:24 PM)
SteveHelwagen (Nov 20, 2003 3:35:49 PM)
BuckisGod, not following your ? on Gamble and Troy Smith.
RochBuck (Nov 20, 2003 3:36:10 PM)
Steve, Do you know if Massey leans north or south? Do you think the winner of The Game takes the edge?
BuckisGod (Nov 20, 2003 3:36:23 PM)
there was mention in internet news that Gamble and Smith were involved in that keeping peace incident
SteveHelwagen (Nov 20, 2003 3:36:43 PM)
Mike68, well Saban did lead LSU to an SEC title game upset of Tennessee, I believe, then beat Illinois in the Sugar Bowl (home game, practically) 2 years ago. That's pretty good for an SEC team.
BuckisGod (Nov 20, 2003 3:36:47 PM)
So- I wonder if Gamble and Smith are cleared enough to play this weekend?
Wizzle (Nov 20, 2003 3:37:37 PM)
One key to OSUs offense, THROW TO YOUR TIGHT ENDS
Susan (Nov 20, 2003 3:37:45 PM)
BuckisGod....it's amazing how quiet that's been kept. My daughter is a frosh at OSU and hasn't even heard for sure who was involved. I thought JT said everyone is available for Sat.
SteveHelwagen (Nov 20, 2003 3:37:54 PM)
68, I have not studied the voting points to know how close OSU is to third. But if they struggle against Ole Miss and OSU can win at Michigan, it may sway some people. How 'bout an Ole Miss win outright? Anybody up for that?
BuckisGod (Nov 20, 2003 3:37:54 PM)
Wizzle (Nov 20, 2003 3:37:55 PM)
I seriously think Hartstock and Hamby have super glue on their gloves
Susan (Nov 20, 2003 3:38:19 PM)
i meant..BuckIsGod...the players involved are available..
BuckisGod (Nov 20, 2003 3:38:53 PM)
hope that Gamble and Smith are cleared enough! We need Gamble badly this weekend with that Underwood uncertain status
Susan (Nov 20, 2003 3:39:03 PM)
Yeah Steve. Go MISSISSIPPI!!!
SteveHelwagen (Nov 20, 2003 3:39:20 PM)
RochBuck, just my hunch (and I think Gary gets the same vibe), but I think Massey could lean to UM, where his brother will be a senior and they can play together next year. He hasn't said that, but you wonder if it may have an impact. I know he loves OSU, too. What a tough call for that kid.
buckeyefan47 (Nov 20, 2003 3:39:33 PM)
susan, excellent pics posted this week. Thank You! Steve, I have read that Carris under some serious heat if he loses to State, what are your feelings on this?
Susan (Nov 20, 2003 3:39:43 PM)
BuckisGod (Nov 20, 2003 3:40:29 PM)
Hey Steve- who will be the next commitment you think?
BuckisGod (Nov 20, 2003 3:40:56 PM)
I hear that Nicols and Massey are deciding very soon.
Mike68 (Nov 20, 2003 3:41:01 PM)
I agree, Go Colonel Reb. I'll be tuning into the 2nd half of that game after the Bucks win!
SteveHelwagen (Nov 20, 2003 3:41:35 PM)
BuckisGod, those weren't the names I was told, so I won't speculate (and I won't divulge them until somebody has it on the record somewhere with the police because my source, somewhat sketchy, could be wrong). My impression is we won't know what's been done. Maybe they get extra duty or some other form of punishment that we don't know about. If 1 or more guys don't start Sat., then you may have your answer. Can't believe this merits a game suspension, especially if they did nothing wrong beyond being out late. Now if they made contact and hurt one of the females, that's an entirely different matter.
Mike68 (Nov 20, 2003 3:41:52 PM)
I would rather have Lonie than Massey, IMO. We need to keep the punting tradition alive in '04. It has been a very BIG part of our success these last two years.
BuckisGod (Nov 20, 2003 3:42:37 PM)
let hope if it is nothing more than speculation!
Mike68 (Nov 20, 2003 3:42:50 PM)
Not to say that I don't want Massey, but if I had to choose who could make more of an immediate impact
BuckisGod (Nov 20, 2003 3:43:30 PM)
Steve- this weekend game- If CK happened to have some trouble at qbing will it force JT to put in SM in?
buckeyefan47 (Nov 20, 2003 3:43:44 PM)
Steve I don't know if you saw my post but I had said that I have heard Carr is going to be on the hot seat if he can't beat the bucks this weekend. In your opinion is that the truth?
BuckisGod (Nov 20, 2003 3:43:45 PM)
Or JT will stay put with CK all the way?
SteveHelwagen (Nov 20, 2003 3:43:55 PM)
BuckisGod, I will be honest, I do not have a great feel on who could be next. I imagine somebody will commit over that first weekend in Dec. We hear that Davis and Ginn will verbal somewhere (eVBG) during the all-star game in Texas in January.
SteveHelwagen (Nov 20, 2003 3:44:21 PM)
Mike68, I'll take Lonie and Massey.
Mike68 (Nov 20, 2003 3:44:53 PM)
Steve, I agree, but for some reason I won't be too upset if we lose Massey (don't tell Cat Fan!)
Wizzle (Nov 20, 2003 3:44:56 PM)
Does anybody know our chances on the RB from Georgia Darius Walker
SteveHelwagen (Nov 20, 2003 3:45:17 PM)
BuckisGod, as long as the game is close, I don't think he pulls that trigger, but if CK goes Bret powers (i.e. 3 INTs or whatever that was) then maybe he has to put the Gunslinger in.
Mike68 (Nov 20, 2003 3:45:27 PM)
Wizzle-I'm guessing 50-50 at best w/ Walker. Seems more likely that we get Russell and/or Williams
SteveHelwagen (Nov 20, 2003 3:46:29 PM)
47, I thought I answered that. No, Carr has Bo's imprimatur on his chest and a national title to his credit. He runs a pretty good, clean program. They have no reason to fire him just on the basis of a third straight loss to OSU. Now if it happens this year and next, you may be on to something.
BuckisGod (Nov 20, 2003 3:46:30 PM)
I hope BUCKS blow out Mich so SM can play! I like them both!
SteveHelwagen (Nov 20, 2003 3:47:12 PM)
Wizzle, I think OK on Walker, but maybe they knowsomething and that's why Gary Russell is starting to get some more love.
BuckisGod (Nov 20, 2003 3:47:15 PM)
WHo would want to fire a coach who already got National champ to his credit?
edbuck51 (Nov 20, 2003 3:47:20 PM)
Doesn't it seem OSU has superiority in the kicking game this week, which should easily offset any difficiencies between our offense and their defense?
BuckisGod (Nov 20, 2003 3:47:25 PM)
Keep CArr so we can beat Mich more!
Wizzle (Nov 20, 2003 3:47:37 PM)
I think I saw that if we offeree Russell, he would accept right on the spot
RochBuck (Nov 20, 2003 3:48:00 PM)
Steve . . . do you know anything about what Earle Bruce said to the team? Sounds like he fired them up, as usual. :-)
SteveHelwagen (Nov 20, 2003 3:48:56 PM)
edbuck51, that was my take that OSU has the better defense, better kicker and better punter. I don't know why anybody considers this game to be a foregone conclusion. If the defense plays its best game yet, OSU can win it in good fashion.
SteveHelwagen (Nov 20, 2003 3:49:24 PM)
RochBuck, nobody spilled the beans on what the Earle of Bruce may have said. I'm sure he gave them the fire and brimstone treatment.
ChicagoBuck (Nov 20, 2003 3:49:58 PM)
Steve, do you think the Big House will much of a factor? We haven't played well on the road.
edbuck51 (Nov 20, 2003 3:50:34 PM)
I really thought the Bucks were going to open it up against Wisconsin. The weather throttled that early, but when they got behind, I liked what we saw. Do you think JT will come out slingin' this week?
frickinbucknuttyintoledo (Nov 20, 2003 3:50:44 PM)
susan, can i marry your daughter?
RochBuck (Nov 20, 2003 3:51:25 PM)
Steve, How good are the Michigan DB's ? Jackson is coming back from injury. Does it create opportunity for us or will he be 100%. (Is Michigan hiding something?)
Susan (Nov 20, 2003 3:51:41 PM)
lol fricken. I'm not quite ready to be a mother-in-law yet. Let's let her finish college...unless of course, you'd like to marry her and pay her tuition for me.
SteveHelwagen (Nov 20, 2003 3:51:43 PM)
ChicagoBuck, the crowd at TBH is never that involved. UM is much better at home, too. I will admit, I guess, that the location of the game could be a factor.
edbuck51 (Nov 20, 2003 3:52:04 PM)
What's it like on game day in Ann Arbor? I've never wanted to go there, but maybe I've been missing something.
SteveHelwagen (Nov 20, 2003 3:53:11 PM)
edbuck51, it wouldn't bother me to see OSU get Jenkins, Holmes and others involved with the pass. UM does not have a great pass rush, unless Woods comes on the blitz to help the front 4. CK should have some time and could be a big contributor with his scrambling.
SteveHelwagen (Nov 20, 2003 3:54:24 PM)
RochBuck, Jackson should be 100 percent, from what I've read. He and Shazor are 2 big hitting safeties. LeSueur is a good corner and Markus Currys is a great competitor at just 5-11. They are pretty good and have all played alot.
ChicagoBuck (Nov 20, 2003 3:54:52 PM)
I went to the 31-3 loss in 1991 at UM. It was during a cold, november rain. Desmond did the heisman pose and I vowed NEVER to go back :) Ann Arbor night life sucks, by the way.
Mike68 (Nov 20, 2003 3:55:22 PM)
Along w/ the rest of town!
edbuck51 (Nov 20, 2003 3:55:34 PM)
Why is it that Michigan always seems to have players who play there for six or seven years? I think Cato June played there for ten years.
SteveHelwagen (Nov 20, 2003 3:56:14 PM)
edbuck51, it is different. There aren't a lot of bars within2-3 blocks of the stadium. Mainly parking, a golf course, a high school, Crisler Arena and some housing for students. It is usually very cold and very crowded, as you might expect. The stadium is no comparison to the Shoe. They've just played a lot of big games there. That's the aura.
Mike68 (Nov 20, 2003 3:56:21 PM)
I was just having that discussion over lunch edbuck51! My friend said that it seems like Navarre has been under center for 5 or 6 years now.
edbuck51 (Nov 20, 2003 3:56:27 PM)
In fact, I've been watching the Classic games all week, and Messner played in all of them. Is he still playing?
frickinbucknuttyintoledo (Nov 20, 2003 3:56:43 PM)
Thanks Susan, that doesn't sound all bad!
Mike68 (Nov 20, 2003 3:57:15 PM)
I think Messner played during the entire decade of the 80's!
Susan (Nov 20, 2003 3:57:33 PM)
Steve..I need help. Someone tell me how to back away from the keyboard and get my mind off this game. I'm getting anything done around here that I need to do. My poor husband has no clean underwear, my concentration is such that I can't remember how to turn on the washing machine.
edbuck51 (Nov 20, 2003 3:57:41 PM)
Wasn't he on Bo's first team in '69?
ChicagoBuck (Nov 20, 2003 3:57:50 PM)
Most of the ESPN Classic games are too painful to watch, I cringed last night we I saw David Boston get flipped (the SI Cover shot).
SteveHelwagen (Nov 20, 2003 3:57:53 PM)
That Messner and Erick Anderson and that QB in the late 70s and Kolesar and Anthony Thomas and many others played there for what seemed like six years.
Susan (Nov 20, 2003 3:57:57 PM)
that should be I'm "not" getting anything done
Wizzle (Nov 20, 2003 3:57:59 PM)
Alright guys I gotta go but before I go let's get it goin one more time...... OH......
Mike68 (Nov 20, 2003 3:57:59 PM)
Susan- Forget about anything but the game!
Mike68 (Nov 20, 2003 3:58:20 PM)
Susan (Nov 20, 2003 3:58:21 PM)
68...I hope the Cheesehead understands...
RochBuck (Nov 20, 2003 3:58:23 PM)
Susan . . . let's hope your husband doesn't need another pair of clean underware after the game. VBG. :-)
frickinbucknuttyintoledo (Nov 20, 2003 3:58:40 PM)
That is how we all are Susan. It is indeed hard to get anything done this week at work. I do not want to miss a single post!
Wizzle (Nov 20, 2003 3:58:42 PM)
there you go MIke, later guys and GO BUCKS
Susan (Nov 20, 2003 3:58:42 PM)
lol Roch..maybe I should leave em all dirty just in case
edbuck51 (Nov 20, 2003 3:58:47 PM)
It was more painful to watch him taunt Woodson after getting his rear end shut out all day.
RochBuck (Nov 20, 2003 3:59:04 PM)
Mike68 (Nov 20, 2003 3:59:05 PM)
Susan- The next task you need to do is to start packing for the Big Easy. Don't bother with anything until then!
SteveHelwagen (Nov 20, 2003 3:59:16 PM)
Susan, I understand. I am the same way.
SteveHelwagen (Nov 20, 2003 3:59:30 PM)
I think last year's game is on tonight at 9. Not sure about tomorrow.
Mike68 (Nov 20, 2003 3:59:54 PM)
Susan- Just wait if we make it to N.O., you'll have six weeks of ignoring your family!!!
frickinbucknuttyintoledo (Nov 20, 2003 4:00:13 PM)
ALL BUCKEYES RULE! LET'S GET THOSE DIRTY DOGS!!
edbuck51 (Nov 20, 2003 4:00:16 PM)
Do any of you ever go to sleep the night before The Game? I almost never do, and always wake up way to early.
frickinbucknuttyintoledo (Nov 20, 2003 4:00:43 PM)
HEY EDBUCK, LET'S PARTY!!!
Susan (Nov 20, 2003 4:00:52 PM)
68, hopefully the cheesehead wont divorce me by new years if that's the case
Mike68 (Nov 20, 2003 4:01:00 PM)
edbuck- I wish they could kickoff now. I can't concentrate on anything else. I have the same feeling that I did last year before the Miami game.
SteveHelwagen (Nov 20, 2003 4:01:05 PM)
any other questions????
RochBuck (Nov 20, 2003 4:01:11 PM)
Grrrreat Chat session, Steve! Thanks a lot for everything. Let's bring home a win! Go Bucks!
edbuck51 (Nov 20, 2003 4:01:13 PM)
I've tried that, but still can't sleep
Susan (Nov 20, 2003 4:01:27 PM)
yes. Steve. Thanks. See you sat..maybe
Mike68 (Nov 20, 2003 4:01:44 PM)
Yes, Steve-will you wait to pop the cork on the champagne until you get back to Cbus or will you do it in Ann Arbor?
SteveHelwagen (Nov 20, 2003 4:01:58 PM)
68, i'm coming home.
frickinbucknuttyintoledo (Nov 20, 2003 4:01:58 PM)
Yes Steve, why would anyone be a Michigan fan to begin with when there is something so great just over three hours away?
Mike68 (Nov 20, 2003 4:02:34 PM)
Come home w/ the Big Ten trophy in hand!!!!!!!!
edbuck51 (Nov 20, 2003 4:02:53 PM)
It's going to be a perfect day for football. Threepeat!!!!!
SteveHelwagen (Nov 20, 2003 4:03:58 PM)
Hey guys, I've got to go. Thanks again. Talk to Gary tomorrow and with next week being somewhat of a holiday weekend, stay tuned for Chat schedule forFriday.
