Recruiting Updates - Young, Sintim, Lyons

We have three updates on players who are very interested in OSU - Florida DE Willie Young, Virginia DE Clint Sintim, and Pennsylvania DB/WR Devon Lyons. Young lists three schools, Lyons has four, and Sintim five, and OSU is on each list.

One of Florida's top DE prospects is Palm Beach Gardens standout Willie Young. The 6-5 1/2, 210 pound Young has been clocked at 4.63 in the 40 and will be visiting Ohio State.

"Yes, I have been offered by Ohio State," he said. "I need to talk to Coach Conley to put a final date on my visit."

OSU is having a big visit weekend this weekend, but Young is staying at home.

"I'm not visiting anywhere this weekend but I'm going to North Carolina State the following week," he said.

He had 12 sacks as a DE, but he's impartial as to where he plays in college.

"I'll play anywhere," he said. "I just want to get on the field where I can help the team."

Being from Florida, the Ohio climate can always be an issue, but Willie says that it won't be a factor.

"No, I'm used to the cold," he said. "I've been up to Georgia."

What does he like about OSU?

"It's a nice program, nice coaching staff, and it feels like they're all telling me the truth," he said.

Willie is down to three schools, and a decision could be coming soon. Each one has offered and he said one will be his college choice.

"It's North Carolina State, Georgia, or Ohio State," he said.

When might a decision come?

"I might commit at the California/Florida All-Star game," he said.

Clint Sintim of Gar-Field HS in Woodbridge, VA is one of Virginia's top defensive prospects this year. The 6-3, 247 pound Sintim had five sacks and "40 or 50 tackles". He played guard and tight end on offense this year, but everybody's recruiting him as a DE.

Sintim's team lost last week to the defending state champions. His five favorites are Virginia, Virginia Tech, Maryland, Tennessee, and Ohio State, but Clint says OSU has not contacted him recently.

"I really do want to come up there for a visit but I have not heard from Ohio State for a while," he said. "If they contact me, I definitely would have them in my top five."

Coach Fickell is recruiting him for Ohio State. He currently has a 12/5 visit set up to Virginia Tech, a 12/12 visit to Virginia, and a tentative 12/19 visit to Maryland.

Pittsburgh, PA DB/WR Devon Lyons has emerged as one of Pennsylvania's top recruits. I tried to contact him last night and reached his father instead, but his father filled me in with all the latest news.

"Stanford coaches just left," he said. "Coach Daniels and Coach Tressel are to be in the house tomorrow (today) at 5 pm. Walt Harris will be in on Wednesday."

It sounds like a busy week for Devon, but interestingly, not everyone is looking at him as a defensive back.

"Everyone is now coming in on him as a wide receiver," Devon's father said. "Our school just doesn't throw the ball that much."

When they do throw though, Devon was a playmaker as he averaged 33.9 yards a catch.

OSU is in the final four for Devon. The plan is to come to OSU next week.

"We have been to Ohio State three or four times on unofficial visits," Devon's father said. "We're down to four schools: Ohio State, Miami, Michigan State, and Notre Dame."

"We've already been to Michigan State and Notre Dame. We will be going to Miami this weekend... We are due at Ohio State on the 12th.

Devon had a big year, and his father said he is expecting an invitation to the national all-star game in Texas. Devon is cousins with Michigan defensive back Ryan Mundy, but he is not considering the Wolverines.

"Michigan fans shouldn't get excited," he said. "We've already eliminated them."

One final note: Devon's dad commented about Stanford being far away, which makes me wonder if distance could be a factor.
