Lonie Discusses Last Visit To Cal

Ellsworth Community College punting and kicking specialist David Lonie wrapped up his official visits with a trip to Cal this weekend. See what Lonie had to say about that trip and where things stand now. He plans to enroll at his school of choice in January.

David Lonie, a punting and kicking specialist from Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls, Iowa, made his final official visit this weekend to Cal.

Lonie (6-6, 215) is a native of Australia. He visited Ohio State Nov. 7 for the Michigan State game and also saw Michigan, Illinois and Louisville previously.

"Cal was great," Lonie said. "I really had a good time. I had a great trip out there. I could go in and do all three (punt, kick and kick off) there. The weather is warm there, too.

"It will definitely be a close call between Cal, Ohio State and Michigan. I plan to start at my new school in January."

Lonie has been welcoming coaches for visits.

"I have had a bunch of coaches come by and see me," he said. "I've had coaches from Illinois, Cal, Texas A&M, Michigan, Louisville and Ohio State in. I think Michigan and Ohio State are coming in this week. It will be either Coach Conley or Coach Tressel."

Lonie said he plans to go home to Australia next weekend. He will have a decision by the time he boards the plane to go home.

"My last final exam here is Wednesday," he said.

Lonie earned first-team all-conference honors this year by averaging over 44 yards per punt. He also hit on 7 of 12 field goals.
