GaryHousteau (Dec 31, 2003 1:09:11 PM)
Hello....I had trouble logging in today...sorry! Happy New Year!

Kirk (Dec 31, 2003 1:09:19 PM)
Hi Gary. We'll get going right away...

hondo (Dec 31, 2003 1:09:25 PM)
Gary, have you heard which players (beside Ginn) may announce this weekend at the Army All-American Bowl?

GaryHousteau (Dec 31, 2003 1:10:32 PM)
No...sorry...I'm focused in on the Ginn announcement only! I'll check with my sources on Friday for any breaking news....

nbuck (Dec 31, 2003 1:10:42 PM)
Gary are you persuaded that any lingering doubts about the offense fred davis has has been answered by tress?

GaryHousteau (Dec 31, 2003 1:13:21 PM)
Hi nbuck...proof is in the pudding...all the parts are at JT's disposal to "open up" the offense even a little, but I know a leopard's spots don't change so we shall see the fine line between what he tells recruits and what type of offense he'll actually run. JT won't sell his soul for any recruit, IMHO.

hondo (Dec 31, 2003 1:14:03 PM)
Gary, do you agree with Duane that the only reason holding up Xavier Lee from coming to Ohio State is his parents?

GaryHousteau (Dec 31, 2003 1:15:16 PM)
I don't see any reason holding X from becoming a Buckeye, he just needs to pull the trigger!

blufftonbuck (Dec 31, 2003 1:15:19 PM)
Gary, Not sure if you answered before I had problems but latest on Williams

GaryHousteau (Dec 31, 2003 1:18:36 PM)
Hi Blufftonbuck...As I told everyone days ago...Raymond Williams is set to play in the all-star game. His academic situation is almost not salvagable for this year. A prep school is likely in the offing. And I'm hoping he has a fantastic game to show the type of big-time running back he can be to the nation. He's done it game after game at Benedictine.

buckeyemurph (Dec 31, 2003 1:18:41 PM)
Gary, I saw where a poster on O-zone (Buster Avis) was going to e-mail you to pass information along to you. Is this guys information credible?

GaryHousteau (Dec 31, 2003 1:21:53 PM)
Hi buckeyemurph...we've traded emails but we haven't really had a conversation yet. I'm trying to get to know him so I can accurately assess his recruiting inforamation. Right now, I have no idea who he is but I think I'm making progress in that direction. But we have traded emails for now. He sounds credible but I need to know more about him.

buckeyefan47 (Dec 31, 2003 1:22:07 PM)
hey Gary, I would like to get your opinion on the possible replacements for Dantonio. Who in your opinion is the man for the job? I like Bob Davie, and Snyder

GaryHousteau (Dec 31, 2003 1:25:55 PM)
I've known Snyder for a long time from his association with JT at YSU and of course Bob Davie has some times to YSU as well. Davie is no where a favorite son at YSU like JT is. We all kind of found out about Davie being a YSU guy after he became who he became. I think JT does the politically correct thing and hires within for the DC. I know he thinks highly of Coach Heacock, having coached against him in I-AA. I don't quite know is Snyder is ready but he might be the logical pick or else we could lose him. I think Bo Pelini would have to be at least considered if Nebraska is dumb enough not to hold on to him.

hondo (Dec 31, 2003 1:26:10 PM)
Gary, It seems Maurice Clarett talk is picking up again. What is the latest on Maurice?

GaryHousteau (Dec 31, 2003 1:30:30 PM)
Maurice would be in the NFL yesterday if that option was viable to him at this time. Since it's not for sure yet, he has to remain a good soldier (no disrepect to the men and women in the armed forces) and stay in somewhat good graces at OSU. If he doesn't get cleared to try for the NFL, he needs another year at Ohio State. I think he needs another year at OSU anyway. He's a big-time risk to the NFL no matter how you look at him. I think Clarett is holding a lot of chips and maybe the biggest chip of them all, but for now...I'll have to leave it at that. So I've news on Reecie is good news for all involved!

BlueChipRecruit (Dec 31, 2003 1:30:46 PM)
Davis is doing a Lemming Chat and said he is looking forward to watching the Orange Bowl and the Rose Bowl. I know you say he's a Buckeye. Is he just blowing smoke or something?

GaryHousteau (Dec 31, 2003 1:33:58 PM)
In the end...after he enjoys the spoils of being a big time recruit...Fred Davis will be a Buckeye. His stage that he's on now is the biggest stage he's ever had at this point in his life and I hope he enjoys and appreciates every minute of it. But his ties to Ohio and the Buckeyes and to Coach Rios and his friends and fellow recruits are too strong and too binding. As I've said adamently all along...and with confidence...Fred Davis for the 1342 time...will be a Buckeye! Smile!

hondo (Dec 31, 2003 1:34:10 PM)
Gary, Do you have any new info regarding Hart, and Lee from your sources?

GaryHousteau (Dec 31, 2003 1:36:29 PM)
Nothing new since the beginning of the week. I don't like to saturate my sources by calling on them again and again. It's about timing! When the proper time comes...I'll pounce! I feel like OSU has a real legitimate shot at both and particulary Bryant, more so than these two. I think this week in San Antonio will cement a lot of solid relationships and land OSU a few more big time recruits. That's JMHO!

nbuck (Dec 31, 2003 1:36:42 PM)
gary on various boards credible people such as helping hand and buster avis(ozone) have said we have some silent verbals from o lineman are you aware of who they are and without revealing sources are they something that we as fans would be very pleased with?

GaryHousteau (Dec 31, 2003 1:40:01 PM)
The last silent verbal lineman that I actually knew about was Derek Morris. I haven't heard anything specifically and I don't think Mitchum would be one because he is truly treating the recruiting process with a lot of respect. I don't think Hart is either. Those are my two main guys. I really can't say after that...I don't know any other linemen as well as I do these two.

DirkMatt (Dec 31, 2003 1:40:29 PM)
Gary, this may sound crazy, but is there any chance the group of players is planning on surprising the nation by ALL commiting to OSU at the Army game?

GaryHousteau (Dec 31, 2003 1:41:57 PM)
HI are correct it does sound crazy and the probability of that happening is nil! That's a great thought though! Anything more than Ginn is a bonus!

BlueChipRecruit (Dec 31, 2003 1:42:22 PM)
Gary, do you think we land a big time DE in this class? If so, who?

GaryHousteau (Dec 31, 2003 1:46:07 PM)
I'm anxious to watch one DE in particular at the Army game this weekend, but I think Anderson is still someone we have a shot at. I guess Gohlstein has a lot of potential but I'm not crazy about him. I'm not sure yet beyond those two guys! I'm anxious to talk to people in San Antonio later this week.

blufftonbuck (Dec 31, 2003 1:46:15 PM)
Gary just in from the premium board Per the ESPN chat, Xavier said that it just didn't go too well with the Bucks. Can this be?

Susan (Dec 31, 2003 1:46:18 PM)
Gary...there's a lemming chat posted where Lee says osu is out of the running for him. It kind of looks as if he may be answering a different question though, because previously he mentions how he would fit in at osu. Also, Davis said he's announcing next week.

GaryHousteau (Dec 31, 2003 1:49:22 PM)
I have no intimate knowledge of anything pertaining to Lee at this time. I'm just learing this from you. Susan, as always, is on top of things...I will make a phone call later today, after the chat to get an accurate update from my sources. This warrants a phone call. We shall see. Not great news for OSU if this is true!

nbuck (Dec 31, 2003 1:49:46 PM)
gary since you are close to tedd sr. glenville produces outstanding skill players but no offensive lineman that i have seen is there a reason for this and any up and comers from glenville at o line that you are aware of?

GaryHousteau (Dec 31, 2003 1:52:28 PM)
Yes there is a real solid up and comer on the offensive line at Glenville, just a sophomore last year, but I forget his name at this time. My bad. He could be the first really big offensive line recruit at Glenville and if they start churning those big boys out to go with their skill...look out! Glenville is an OSU factory as long at Ted Ginn Sr. is there!

blufftonbuck (Dec 31, 2003 1:52:51 PM)
Gary who do you few as a possible surprise in this class. Sort of like a Sims or Mangold. Someone not getting much pub right now

GaryHousteau (Dec 31, 2003 1:55:16 PM)
I think Miles Williams has tremendous potential down the road but not immediately. I think Jon Skinner could be the biggest surprise of them all. He could be a two-deeper early on. Skinner is a tough as nails lineman who has tremendous potential. And Shaun Lane is going to be better than a lot of people think. He is his daddy's son!

hondo (Dec 31, 2003 1:55:36 PM)
Gary, what's up with Mitchum scheduling an official visit to WVA? I thought his decision was basically coming down to Ohio State, Iowa, and Michigan.

GaryHousteau (Dec 31, 2003 1:57:55 PM)
It must be as a favor to someone! I've already got Mitchum in my commitment column to OSU so I'm not really concerned. Miles Williams is taking an official visit to Nebraska and then Iowa after he visits OSU on Jan. 9 but it's just as a favor. He's not going anywhere but to Ohio State.

dcbuck (Dec 31, 2003 1:58:20 PM)
How many of the current commits and potential commits are planning on enrolling early, and how many schollies that does mean we can give this year

GaryHousteau (Dec 31, 2003 2:03:05 PM)
The ones I know for sure that want to enroll early...before summer... are Freeman, Davis and Pittman. Both Davis and Pittman's semester's end in the middle of January but Pittman told me just the other day that he is still hoping to be at Ohio State after he graduates in January. According to him, he's been told that as long as he's cleared with his ACT he will be at OSU in January. The latest for Pittman as well as for Davis will be in the spring to enroll. Both want to have a spring with their new team before the fall. Freeman will enroll Jan. 5 and someone said the Rehring will enroll early as well? I don't know anything about Rehring's status at this time.

WahooBuck (Dec 31, 2003 2:04:15 PM)
The boards were talkin about "Gary's news," that was going to make everyone happy. So what's the news?

GaryHousteau (Dec 31, 2003 2:09:53 PM)
I'm kind of bummed to hear about Lee if that's true but that would have been a bonus for sure. I still like Hart and Bryant...particularly Bryant. Just to clarify...I've never said either of the three would commit to OSU but I did say we would have a very good chance to be "front runners" with all three after this week. Some people might say I'm covering my a$$ but that's my stance. I've already said that Mitchum and Davis will be Buckeyes so I'm not changing my stance there. If we get any of Bryant, Hart or Lee thent that will be good news. That must be what they're referring to!

SteveHelwagen (Dec 31, 2003 2:10:07 PM)
Hey Gary (and everybody), Happy New Year! I plan to conduct a Chat on Friday at 4 p.m. Eastern for one hour before I go to the game. See you then.
