GaryHousteau (Jan 8, 2004 1:04:20 PM)
Hi everyone...I'm ready to go .... how about you?

edbuck51 (Jan 8, 2004 1:04:36 PM)
Isn't the new kicker from KY exciting?

GaryHousteau (Jan 8, 2004 1:05:42 PM)
Hi edbuck...I don't know much about him yet I have to admit.

bucklover (Jan 8, 2004 1:05:48 PM)
Whats up with Fred??

GaryHousteau (Jan 8, 2004 1:07:23 PM)
Hi bucklover...the $64,000 dollar didn't take very long...well I'm planning on going to Rogers High School next Thursday I believe it is until I'm told otherwise!

JstBadd (Jan 8, 2004 1:07:35 PM)
Leon Hart. Your gut feeling. Do we get him ?

GaryHousteau (Jan 8, 2004 1:19:04 PM)
About Hart...Just like Rory gut feeling on Leon Hart is we sure do. I got some really positive vibes speaking with him on the telephone but I have to take him at his word and it's a 50/50 split right now between OSU and Auburn. He really likes Ohio State though.

dope (Jan 8, 2004 1:16:09 PM)
Any word on that mysterious Louis Holimes kid? Was he real?

Kirk (Jan 8, 2004 1:16:09 PM)
Funny you should ask... we're trying to confirm that he's scheduled to visit this weekend, but since we thought he was going to visit two previous times, we want to wait and see before putting him on the list

Hondo (Jan 8, 2004 1:19:23 PM)
Hi Gary, hope you had a good new year. What's the latest on Brandon Braxton? He seems to have fell off the recruiting news.

GaryHousteau (Jan 8, 2004 1:22:42 PM)
Hi Hondo...Braxton is my homie here in Y-town and he seems to be the caption of a rudderless ship at this moment. I wish him nothing but the best and the physical potential is really there if anyone can unearth it. But Braxton was never a top prospect in my eyes even when everyone else was touting him as such. He has the eye of a kitten and not a tiger but he's a really nice young man. I hope something clicks for him on one of his visits because I don't know if he really knows what he wants to do. In the end...I don't know where he'll end up... I really don't.

OrlandoBuckeye (Jan 8, 2004 1:22:54 PM)
Ha Gary. I listened to Coach tressel on an Atlanta Radio Station yesterday and he seemed pretty adamant that he felt Maurice Clarett would be playing for OSU next year. He said he spoke to maurice on Monday and he was in class this quarter at OSU. What have you heard anything and do you think Reecie could possibly be a Buckeye next year?

GaryHousteau (Jan 8, 2004 1:26:58 PM)
Hi OrlandoBuckeye...when the bottom fell out with Reecie...whenever that exactly was who knows? guys here in Y-town were telling me that Reecie is going to play another year... he has to. It didn't sound very logical at the time but all things are now moving in that direction. I think it's in the best interest of Reecie to play another year and he knows that. I'm sure Tressel will take him back whether he wants to or not and I'm sure he'd rather not have him back...that's me speaking not Tressel. It's a marriage that looks like it really might continue against all odds.

walterpoolfan (Jan 8, 2004 1:27:25 PM)
Hey Gary- Hart, Zuttah, Mitchum- which one do you think we have the best shot at?

bellevuebuck (Jan 8, 2004 1:27:28 PM)
Whats our odds for landing Zuttah and Mitchum

bucklover (Jan 8, 2004 1:27:43 PM)
Give us some good news on Mitchum...please

GaryHousteau (Jan 8, 2004 1:30:33 PM)
Hi walterpoolfan...I would say Mitchum is our best chance. I spoke with his mom on the phone last night and one of her boys went off to college in Williamsport, Pa. yesterday and she'll be losing her other son to college in months. I think OSU stands a really good chance from what I'm hearing from people close to Mitchum...his mom says she'll support whatever decision/school he makes... I think he's a Buckeye. I haven't been tracking Zuttah so I can't really give you any odds or insight and I have a really good feeling about Hart at this time.

edbuck51 (Jan 8, 2004 1:30:53 PM)
When the offense gets conservation, doesn't it seem like the defense gets tired?

GaryHousteau (Jan 8, 2004 1:34:07 PM)
Hi edbuck...I'm not certain of your question but if the offense goes three and out often the defense really gets tired yes. I really liked the offense in the Fiesta Bowl...sprinkle the tight end in there and you really have a good mix. Why they go to the tight end one game and not the next... I have no idea! The tight end as a receiver is a great weapon every game. But after the first quarter and half of the Fiesta Bowl...I was proud to say that Craig Krenzel was my quarterback...but when is going bad... he can stink up the joint better than any other.

gmsbears (Jan 8, 2004 1:34:58 PM)
There is an update that Tim Jamison the DE from the All American game now has us in the running. Do we have a realistic chance at getting him?

dope (Jan 8, 2004 1:35:18 PM)
Who is our best shot at landing DE & how many we take. We have allot of DEs visiting this weekend.

LABucknut (Jan 8, 2004 1:35:23 PM)
As I look at the recruits coming this week for a visit, It looks like its going to be a defensive line party weekend. How many DE's or DT's are we going to take? Given all the rumors, the 2 star recruit Tim Jamison from IL was the def. player that stood out. How does one decide out of the 7 or so lineman who to take if all want to be Bucks. How do you rate Barrow, Gholston, Harvey, Hill, Young, Abdallah and Hall. All seem to be top players. And how do they compare to Jamison. Thank and Happy New Year.

GaryHousteau (Jan 8, 2004 1:37:50 PM)
Hi gmsbears...that would be great news if Tim Jamison has Ohio State in the running now. After watching him in the game and hearing Leon Hart talk about him glowing on the telephone as one of the toughest players he faced all week...I really like to see Jamison have OSU on his list. I haven't had any contact with him so I don't have any insight with his situation sorry.

GaryHousteau (Jan 8, 2004 1:41:29 PM)
Hi LABucknut...boy a lot of those guys on your list sound great but I'll realistically take Barrow and Gholston and sprinkle in Anderson if he hasn't committed anywhere yet and be very happy. I think we have a really good shot obviously at Barrow and I like our chances with Gholston now. Marcus Freeman spoke well of Anderson after his Dec. 5 visit but I haven't been following up on Anderson at all. If he's still available I'd like to get him. Again Jamison really intrigues me but I don't know if we have any shot at him or not!

BuckeyeDave (Jan 8, 2004 1:42:03 PM)
Ginn almost breaks one at the half, then runs one back 98 yds for the TD, then commits to Ohio State. How cool is that!

GaryHousteau (Jan 8, 2004 1:46:42 PM)
Hi Whitner and Hiley...Ginn was a Buckeye all the way. I've heard conversations with the Glenville guys talking about their future at OSU, including Jamario O'Neal. But Ginn wanted to take the recruiting visits seriously and see if the grass was as green as it is in Ohio Stadium and any good Buckeye fan could handicap that. I've taken grief for handing out "locks" on this very site but I've only given three this year and I gave them months ago...Freeman, Ginn and Davis. I don't make predictions...I don't give percentages...but when a player tells me in so many words...over and over again that he's going to Ohio State...then I say he's a lock. So far Freeman and Ginn have lived up to their word and I expect Davis will do the same next week. There are so many positive factors in OSU's favor to land Davis that I'm confident...when the time comes...he won't disappoint any of us.

bucklover (Jan 8, 2004 1:42:11 PM)
Is Ted Jr. going to step in ala MoC and start next year?

GaryHousteau (Jan 8, 2004 1:50:51 PM)
Hi Bucklover...Ted Jr. is a playmaker...bigtime. I've seen him do remarkable things on the field in person this year. I went to a city league game and he was flat-our ridiculous. Ginn will make plays next year, especially in the return game, but it's hard to be another Reecie. That's a very high standard and there is a lot of competition Ginn will have to outperform to get on the field. I think he'll be a defensive back that JT will throw in on occasion on offense from the very first that is definitely reecie like. I don't know he'll start at DB right fact I doubt he will... but he'll contribute in all three phases next year as a true freshman.

hammer1159 (Jan 8, 2004 1:47:16 PM)
Hey Gary, been missing ya, and wondering about Ray Williams. I know he's long been one of your favorites, and where do you see his situation with TOSU at this time?

GaryHousteau (Jan 8, 2004 1:54:45 PM)
hi are correct I love watching Raymond Williams perform on the football field...he has special instincts and it's easy to see that if you had a chance to watch him play. I've seen him play quite a few times the past two years and he's really special. I have it from a good source that OSU wants him...if he can get it done this year...if not...he'll go to a prep school and try again for next year. There are people, Ted Ginn Sr. specifically - who helped to get him in the Army game, who are trying to help Raymond Williams become a Buckeye. I think it will be done either this year or next. He's a great instinctive running back...different from any runner that I've seen come down the pike at the high school level with my own eyes. Tremendous vision and speed. And he's physical.

TheMinnesotaBuckeye (Jan 8, 2004 1:47:23 PM)
Gary, Ray Williams showed America what you've been saying about his ability. Is it true that he'll likely go to a prep school and be with OSU in 2005? Do Ray and OSU have an understanding?

GaryHousteau (Jan 8, 2004 1:55:48 PM)
Hi short yes they have an understanding... the ball is in Ray's hands now. That's what I've been told in so many words.

BuckeyeDave (Jan 8, 2004 1:55:08 PM)
Brian Toal? Brian Toal? Brian Toal?

BuckeyeDave (Jan 8, 2004 1:55:15 PM)
Is Brian Toal, the 6'2"/230 lb RB from Jersey on the OSU radar? He was a monster in the Army All-American game!

GaryHousteau (Jan 8, 2004 1:59:27 PM)
Hi Buckeye Dave...Brian Toal was one of the first guys from the all-star game that Marcus Freeman mentioned as being a stud. I like him although I wish Ray Williams got some of his carries out of the backfield in that game. By the way Williams showed great hands in the game as well. But Toal is probably a Boston College guy from what was being said about him during the game. And he wants to play linebacker, a position that OSU has a gluttonous amount of talent at right now. I don't know if he is on OSU's radar or not after the Army game but I don't think so.

Matt (Jan 8, 2004 1:59:39 PM)
I know we have a lot of offers out there right now, and it seems that more new names continue to pop up all the time. My question is, is it first to commit gets the scholarship, even if down the road a better prospect ends up wanting to come to OSU?

GaryHousteau (Jan 8, 2004 2:05:13 PM)
I think when it's out of state kids they are made aware of a certain pecking order that they may be waiting on before any one kid commits or not and I think they have to operate that way. In state...if JT offers you a scholarship...I would say that offer is good as gold. I know they've told Hart for instance, an out of stater, that he will have a scholarship even up to the last minute. Let's hope that we won't have more Crables on our hands and tie up a good scholarship until signing day and have no intention of going to Ohio State. That's just my understanding of how the scholarship offers work and from knowing JT for so sounds like a practical method for him and his staff.

edbuck51 (Jan 8, 2004 2:05:26 PM)
Do you have a prediction on the Bucks next defensive coordinator? I'm betting JT goes outside.

GaryHousteau (Jan 8, 2004 2:06:29 PM)
hi again edbuck...I'd like to think Snyder will get it. He's earned the opportunity and has a longstanding relationship with Tressel.

Skilly McRailnob (Jan 8, 2004 2:06:37 PM)
Will any frosh (other than Ginn) see tons of action next year?

GaryHousteau (Jan 8, 2004 2:09:53 PM)
Marcus Freeman will on special teams... Erik Haw likely will as could Tony Pittman if Reecie is not around next year. Ginn, Haw and Freeman will see the most action as true freshman next year. I like Jon Skinner too...remember his name...just a gut feeling!

riverwatchbucknut (Jan 8, 2004 2:10:09 PM)
Got here late but what's the latest on Bryant? Would love to have him but haven't heard alot on him and his leans/choices etc.

GaryHousteau (Jan 8, 2004 2:13:56 PM)
Hi riverwatchbucknut...Bryant could be a pleasant addition to this class. At this time you have to figure Pitt and Ohio State have the best chance at him. He's a hard one to reach but I call him once or twice everyday and I hope to get an update from him soon. From what some of the other kids have told me...OSU has a good chance at landing Bryant. I'd love to add this monster to our defense.

OSUfan (Jan 8, 2004 2:14:16 PM)
Is Darius Walker and Xavier Lee no longer considering OSU?

GaryHousteau (Jan 8, 2004 2:21:35 PM)
Hi OSUfan...I have no insight into Darius Walker so I can't say one way or the other. As far as Xavier Lee goes...I thought it was pretty pathetic the way my discussion about him was handled on our message board last week and quite frankly that's why I've stayed away from the board for so long. First of all...Xavier Lee never was nor is a player that I'm tracking for Bucknuts. My sources in San Antonio at the beginning of the week told me OSU has a really good chance it seems to get Hart, Bryant, Mitchum and even Lee. And I even said "even Lee" myself in my original post because I couldn't believe it myself. Then when the chat occurred Susan first gave news that Lee was eliminating OSU and I said that was news to me at the time. I called right down to San Antonio after the chat and confirmed that from my guys. It was a news item. I never ever said Lee or any of those guys were commiting to Ohio State period. Becoming a solid front runner which is the case with three of those four guys was all that I said

edbuck51 (Jan 8, 2004 2:22:22 PM)
The Zwick/Smith thing is going to work itself out. Where do you see Boeckman in the big picture?

BuckeyeDave (Jan 8, 2004 2:22:35 PM)
Any ideas on next season's starting QB? Zwick is pretty much a QB only, whereas Smith can play multiple positions. Imagine putting Smith in as an RB or WR, pittching it to him and letting him take off or chuck the 'ball down field. Think JT would give that a shot?

GaryHousteau (Jan 8, 2004 2:27:46 PM)
The Zwick/Smith battle could be a tremendous one. We have the tremendous privilege of watching two "Elite 11" high school quarterbacks compete for the starting job at Ohio State. That's the most exciting thing I can't wait to see next year. I know for one that Troy Smith wants this job bad and will go after it big time. I hope JZ has the same resolve. I really like both guys as individuals so it's hard for me to handicap this race at all, but I think Zwick will get the first crack it but both guys will play a lot. With Tressel offense it's all about playing "not to lose" so that gives Zwick the advantage.

OSUfan (Jan 8, 2004 2:29:07 PM)
Why are we not after a QB this year? Are we waiting for next year or something. ?

GaryHousteau (Jan 8, 2004 2:30:26 PM)
Too much youth at the quarterback position right now...there's not really a need until Miles Schlichter is available.

OSUfan (Jan 8, 2004 2:29:15 PM)
What players in Ohio will be national recruits next year. I've heard a lot about Javon Ringer, but he seems to be a little bit undersized to be a top recruit. Whats the story with him?

GaryHousteau (Jan 8, 2004 2:33:42 PM)
Javon Ringer will be an OSU recruit if his grades are up to snuff as will Tyrell Sutton from Akron Hoban next year...I don't quite know if either of them will be national recruits though. Sutton might because he has a ton of yards already. Freddie Lenix from Glenville might be a national recruit because he's a national sprinter like Ginn. Jamario O'Neal would have been if he didn't commit so early to OSU. Alex Boone from St. Ed's would have been a national recruit also if he didn't commit to OSU so soon.

GaryHousteau (Jan 8, 2004 2:36:00 PM)
Thanks for the chat everyone...let's hope OSU can finish out the next couple of weeks strong and start it out with a commitment from Fred Davis next week. Cross your fingers! If he's indeed a Buckeye...I'll be there!
