MYRONACEBUCK (Jan 16, 2004 1:05:48 PM)
sounds like fikell swayed davis yesterday

Kurt (Jan 16, 2004 1:05:58 PM)
Good call, dart.

Dope (Jan 16, 2004 1:06:01 PM)
ISteve, does Louis Holmes exist?

scribeohio (Jan 16, 2004 1:06:11 PM)
Ooh, sounds bad. We don't have any killers here in Chicago!

dart (Jan 16, 2004 1:06:14 PM)
is that the latest on the davis saga?

jamieNH (Jan 16, 2004 1:06:17 PM)
what is today's info on Davis

Dope (Jan 16, 2004 1:06:22 PM)
the killer was retarded

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 1:06:36 PM)
Dope, trying to get news on Louis Holmes has been futile. We're trying. Got to think he is a back burner guy.

buckeyefan47 (Jan 16, 2004 1:06:41 PM)
Davis is getting way to much attention

ozbuck (Jan 16, 2004 1:06:52 PM)
Is Tuesday actually going to be the big day for Davis, and hopefullly, OSU fans?

osufan101 (Jan 16, 2004 1:06:53 PM)
how many fd threads are there lol

SpielmanForPres (Jan 16, 2004 1:06:58 PM)
Steve % chance of Jarret or Lyons?

cantonbuck (Jan 16, 2004 1:07:16 PM)
Steve, any chance we could get davis and jarrett?

edbuck51 (Jan 16, 2004 1:07:25 PM)
Does Bill Livingstpn hate the Buckeyes just because people like them more than the Browns? How can this guy attack Tressel's integrity?

Dope (Jan 16, 2004 1:07:27 PM)
Steve, IF we land Freddy, do we still take Dukes or Lyons?

BUTTERFLY (Jan 16, 2004 1:07:33 PM)
hey aqll

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 1:07:34 PM)
Dart and Jamie, nothing that new to report. All signs are he was going to announce for OSU, but Carroll convinced him to wait. We're in a holding pattern. Fred may or may not make his decision public Tuesday. There are some rumblings it could be signing day.

BUTTERFLY (Jan 16, 2004 1:07:38 PM)
hey all

dart (Jan 16, 2004 1:07:48 PM)

dart (Jan 16, 2004 1:07:54 PM)
been waiting to hear that

Schony14 (Jan 16, 2004 1:07:56 PM)
Would Jarret only consider OSU if Davis signs elsewhere?

BUTTERFLY (Jan 16, 2004 1:08:00 PM)
here wht

Dope (Jan 16, 2004 1:08:01 PM)
Colvin will committ to USC this weekend, that will be USC's 5 star WR

BUTTERFLY (Jan 16, 2004 1:08:05 PM)

dart (Jan 16, 2004 1:08:09 PM)
he would wait til signing day

scribeohio (Jan 16, 2004 1:08:13 PM)
Signing day may be best for some kids. Fred being one.

MYRONACEBUCK (Jan 16, 2004 1:08:22 PM)
no sign tuesday please

buckeyefan47 (Jan 16, 2004 1:08:30 PM)
hey steve, whats your gut on MoC coming back?

dart (Jan 16, 2004 1:08:37 PM)
its going to go on like a broken record

LV-Buckeye (Jan 16, 2004 1:08:40 PM)
i really dont like Pete Carroll

Dope (Jan 16, 2004 1:08:42 PM)
on signing day, there will be some blue chippers that want to come to OSU who will be left out in the cold.

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 1:08:46 PM)
Spiels, It is great they are getting Jarrett in for a visit. I'd say 30 percent on him. Also has USC, Iowa, Pitt and Syracuse after him. Lyons I think is 50-50 between OSU and Miami. OSU recruiting him as WR, Miami says he could be DB or maybe WR.

jamieNH (Jan 16, 2004 1:08:48 PM)
Steve, have you had dealings with Livinston in Cleveland and does he not like Tressel?

ozbuck (Jan 16, 2004 1:08:57 PM)
How interested is OSU in Albert Dukes and Dennis Kennedy? Are these guys just alternatives if we don't get Walker/Johnson/Davis/Jarrett?

Fighter59 (Jan 16, 2004 1:09:02 PM)
Steve, how big of an impact will Bryant have next year if he commits? Will he make the 2 deep?

MYRONACEBUCK (Jan 16, 2004 1:09:11 PM)
i don't care too much for carroll although he handled the bcs situation well

canalfulton buckeye (Jan 16, 2004 1:09:26 PM)
How's everyone doing

Dope (Jan 16, 2004 1:09:29 PM)
Steve, who is better Freeman or Bryant? (Are they different positions at LB?)

LV-Buckeye (Jan 16, 2004 1:09:29 PM)
thats true

witter (Jan 16, 2004 1:09:33 PM)
steve, what national recruiting expert do you put the most stock in?

dart (Jan 16, 2004 1:09:36 PM)
he handled it very well and had his team ready to get a piece of the nc

canalfulton buckeye (Jan 16, 2004 1:09:49 PM)
It's going to be a tough pill to swallow on Tuesday, but it's time to move on

Fighter59 (Jan 16, 2004 1:09:54 PM)
Are there really 42 people chatting right now?

We Love Fred Davis (Jan 16, 2004 1:09:56 PM)
ok ill ask nthe question before any one else does, whats up with freddy

MYRONACEBUCK (Jan 16, 2004 1:10:04 PM)
too late

dart (Jan 16, 2004 1:10:04 PM)
expected scum to put it to them

cantonbuck (Jan 16, 2004 1:10:08 PM)
already been asked

ozbuck (Jan 16, 2004 1:10:08 PM)
already been asked

canalfulton buckeye (Jan 16, 2004 1:10:10 PM)

edbuck51 (Jan 16, 2004 1:10:18 PM)
what do you all have against carroll? seems to be doing a pretty good job to me. he totally handled the bcs thing with class, and kicked michigan's ass

birdiemosh (Jan 16, 2004 1:10:18 PM)
gone? seriously?

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 1:10:25 PM)
edbuck51, not sure what Livingston's gripe with Tressel may be. He is just a cynic to begin with. I think Bill is extremely talented, but his world view is dim, in my opinion. I take what he says with a grain of salt. The best line he ever wrote was after Michigan 95 or 96 (take your pick), when he said Hoying had visions of Kern and turned out to be Frey. Great line put it all into perspective, even tho it hurt.

ozbuck (Jan 16, 2004 1:10:36 PM)
lets try not to chat amongst ourselves. Just questions for Steve, please

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 1:10:42 PM)
Again, I ask, no more conversations please., Hard to keep up that way. Thank you.

AFAN (Jan 16, 2004 1:10:45 PM)
Duane doesn't seem to think so.

Fighter59 (Jan 16, 2004 1:11:12 PM)
Kirk, I see you're on. . . you can pipe in too. ; )

cantonbuck (Jan 16, 2004 1:11:20 PM)
steve, any truth to the idea that mitchum will make his decision early next week?

Redondo (Jan 16, 2004 1:11:23 PM)
Steve - how would four or five more days help USC? What new information, trinkets or tidbits could surface? just interested. Or, is it if he's going to announce for OSU, then anything is better than that happening?

Dope (Jan 16, 2004 1:11:27 PM)
Steve, are you high on A. Johnson at all? I am not impressed with him as an RB? Tahnks

dan (Jan 16, 2004 1:11:27 PM)
what about zuttah?

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 1:11:28 PM)
Dope, definitely take Lyons either way. Not sure about Dukes, although we have a source that says he could end up here.

canalfulton buckeye (Jan 16, 2004 1:11:43 PM)
Steve, do we get hart and Mitchum, and in your opinion would you rather have both lineman than either Hart or Mitchum and davis.

birdiemosh (Jan 16, 2004 1:11:46 PM)
Steve, how soon will you know how it went with Andrew Johnson in today's visit?

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 1:11:51 PM)
Schony 14, maybe that Jarrett only comes if Davis goes elsewhere. There is a rumor to that effect making the rounds.

Schony14 (Jan 16, 2004 1:12:41 PM)
Who is better between Jarrett and Davis?

buckeyefan47 (Jan 16, 2004 1:12:45 PM)
Steve, I don't know if you saw my question but your gut on MoC comingor going?

Fighter59 (Jan 16, 2004 1:12:47 PM)
I sure as heck would take 2 great lineman over one receiver. We're a lot deeper at line.

Fighter59 (Jan 16, 2004 1:12:51 PM)
I'm mean receiver

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 1:12:57 PM)
jamieNH, no I don't think Livingston or Dayton's Tom Archdeacon (same ilk) hate Tressel. They are just cynical. They want to be the devil's advocate. Sometimes there's no devil on some of these issues and they search too hard for one.

Fighter59 (Jan 16, 2004 1:13:19 PM)
Who's MoC? ; )

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 1:13:27 PM)
ozbuck, I think OSU likes Dukes and I hear he could still end up here. Kennedy have to believe is 3rd option if Walker or Johnson do not ban out.

cantonbuck (Jan 16, 2004 1:13:27 PM)
maurice clarret

osufan101 (Jan 16, 2004 1:13:28 PM)

dart (Jan 16, 2004 1:13:40 PM)
Steve..could you place % on Hart, Mitchum and Zuttah w/ OSU's chance of landing each of them? please

osufan101 (Jan 16, 2004 1:13:45 PM)
maybe i can be the next great osu rb

birdiemosh (Jan 16, 2004 1:13:54 PM)
Steve, any news on Gartrell Shavers? Will he still come to OSU if he's not offered a scholarship?

BUTTERFLY (Jan 16, 2004 1:14:05 PM)
is that so hahaha

Fighter59 (Jan 16, 2004 1:14:11 PM)
I thought Shavers had other offers?

osufan101 (Jan 16, 2004 1:14:14 PM)
im 6'0 215 4,5 40

canalfulton buckeye (Jan 16, 2004 1:14:18 PM)
I'll take Hart and Mitchum over Davis anyday of the week

osufan101 (Jan 16, 2004 1:14:18 PM)
20 yrs old though

scribeohio (Jan 16, 2004 1:14:38 PM)
Steve, seems that Bucknuts with its new staff is really handling recruiting very well. I suppose that in reality your all zombies! How's it going?

Fighter59 (Jan 16, 2004 1:14:46 PM)
I think we have Mitchum, so we need to land Hart.

SmellyCat (Jan 16, 2004 1:14:48 PM)
Can we get Shavers in Prep School with Ray and then take him?

tsteele316 (Jan 16, 2004 1:15:01 PM)
how many more commits do you think osu will take?

ozbuck (Jan 16, 2004 1:15:08 PM)
What is your gut feeling on Bryant/Johnson coming to OSU. And Hart, as well?

jamieNH (Jan 16, 2004 1:15:20 PM)
Steve, Does Ray Williams have a shot at qualifying academically or is Prep school the only option

birdiemosh (Jan 16, 2004 1:15:22 PM)
With 20 verbally committed, how many more scholarships does JT have left?

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 1:15:33 PM)
Fighter59, Bryant is a tremendous talent. As for the 2-deep, tough call. They already have 5 veterans who you know will be in there, plus Lukens and Freeman and Matthews. I imagine 1 or both (he and Freeman) could RS because there is no urgency for them to play next year. Great problem to have. Dope, as for who is better, I think Bryant is rated higher. I have not seen him play, so I would reserve judgment. I think both are good enough to play either BLB or MLB.

Fighter59 (Jan 16, 2004 1:16:01 PM)
I love linebackers1

edbuck51 (Jan 16, 2004 1:16:08 PM)
do you think football should have an early signing period for recruits like basketball does?

Fighter59 (Jan 16, 2004 1:16:23 PM)
Let's just sign 25 hard nosed linebackers every year and play them everywhere.

birdiemosh (Jan 16, 2004 1:16:31 PM)
With all the LBs we have, does Snyder talk JT into a 3-4 defense?

tsteele316 (Jan 16, 2004 1:16:43 PM)
I hear Lyons is goign to annouce on the 2nd, what are our chances with him, and will we hold a slot for him if it comes to that?

MrBuckeye (Jan 16, 2004 1:16:51 PM)
Expect the Bucks to put any pressure on Davis to make a decision one way or the other so that we can refocus our efforts on Jarrett and not be left in a Shawn Crable situation like last year?

ozbuck (Jan 16, 2004 1:16:56 PM)
Did Fickell sit down with Davis last night? If so, any word on how that meeting went?

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 1:17:23 PM)
witter, in regards to recruiting experts, I think Newberg and Wallace are very good, and I don't just say that because we are affiliated. Wallace looks hard at academics, which must be factored in. A kid who isn't qualified will not help you for 2-plus seasons. I also think Lemming has his moments when he is dead on with some kids. Crabtree works real hard as does everybody over there. I also respect Rick Kimbrel on west coast. Phil Grosz usually has Pa. locked up pretty good. There are a lot of good ones.

birdiemosh (Jan 16, 2004 1:17:25 PM)
Does Jarrett have us rated high even though we came on so late in recruiting him?

We Love Fred Davis (Jan 16, 2004 1:17:52 PM)
better yet fighter 59, lets sign 25 tedd gins every year, we will never get tackled and look like a circus on the field

tsteele316 (Jan 16, 2004 1:18:01 PM)
birdie, i think jarrett has us in the med range behind usc and uva at this point

birdiemosh (Jan 16, 2004 1:18:19 PM)
thx tsteele

Fighter59 (Jan 16, 2004 1:18:25 PM)
Nah, 160lbs. . . too lite!

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 1:18:37 PM)
cantonbuck, Mitchum may actually take a week or 2 to decide. I think it's OSU over Iowa and WVU, but we'll have to see.

ToledoBUCK (Jan 16, 2004 1:18:45 PM)
Steve, is there any word as to why Morelli may? have a sudden interest in the Bucks?

birdiemosh (Jan 16, 2004 1:18:59 PM)
I'm surprised we are in his top 3. Sounds like JT is recruiting east coast hard especially with the PA verbals we have gotten so far and the ones on the radar

Josh (Jan 16, 2004 1:19:01 PM)
something with walt harris

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 1:19:08 PM)
Redondo, I'm not in Fred's head. But Carroll bought himself some time. I'm sure an assistant will be back and they're jingling him every day, no doubt.

osufan101 (Jan 16, 2004 1:19:13 PM)
personally i dont want morellie drama here

cantonbuck (Jan 16, 2004 1:19:17 PM)
thanks steve, just one more thing, is it true that he is going to verbally commit in person?

MYRONACEBUCK (Jan 16, 2004 1:19:22 PM)
will this chat be unmoderated the whole time

Fighter59 (Jan 16, 2004 1:19:24 PM)
Ann Coulter is hot!

osufan101 (Jan 16, 2004 1:19:32 PM)

MrBuckeye (Jan 16, 2004 1:19:40 PM)
TBuck, they've got a QB already ahead with 3 years playing time projected

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 1:19:59 PM)
Dope, I like A Johnson from Pittsburgh. Played good competition, great speed (4.4 or below) and says he'd play another position to help the team. I have enjoyed speaking with him. He's not a bad kid.

birdiemosh (Jan 16, 2004 1:20:02 PM)
Who MrBuckeye, Smith or Zwick?

KBug4 (Jan 16, 2004 1:20:17 PM)
Does the fact that Ginn wants to play both ways affect Davis?

MrBuckeye (Jan 16, 2004 1:20:29 PM)
Not us, Pitt does. That's why he's looking around. That's my understanding anyways.

tsteele316 (Jan 16, 2004 1:20:41 PM)
cantonbuck, if you are referring to mitchum, i heard taht he indeed will tell the coach in person.

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 1:20:41 PM)
dan, Zuttah may be the dark horse on the outside in this whole derby. I think Maryland, Pitt and OSU are his final 3. They would take him with Hart and Mitchum, I believe.

Josh (Jan 16, 2004 1:21:04 PM)
What are the chances the Maurice Clarett will be a buckeye next season?

cantonbuck (Jan 16, 2004 1:21:11 PM)
thanks tsteele

osufan101 (Jan 16, 2004 1:21:23 PM)
i think he has no chance at his lawsuit

Fighter59 (Jan 16, 2004 1:21:24 PM)

horse (Jan 16, 2004 1:21:39 PM)

FredBeABuckeye! (Jan 16, 2004 1:21:46 PM)

birdiemosh (Jan 16, 2004 1:21:49 PM)
If Tressel has his druthers, how many scholarships does he keep open for the 4 and 5 star prospects

MYRONACEBUCK (Jan 16, 2004 1:21:50 PM)

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 1:22:01 PM)
canalfultonbuckeye, I think they get Mitchum and it's 50-50 between OSU and Auburn for Hart. I'd love all 3 (Mitchum, Hart and Davis). Tough call, but give me the 2 impact OL.

Oh8ch (Jan 16, 2004 1:22:01 PM)
Why is EVERYONE ignoring the request for no conversations?

Fighter59 (Jan 16, 2004 1:22:02 PM)
Is that pi?

Fighter59 (Jan 16, 2004 1:22:16 PM)
I didn't see that.

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 1:22:29 PM)
birdiemosh, Johnson will not visit until Sunday-Monday, so late Monday we might know something.

osufan101 (Jan 16, 2004 1:22:30 PM)
3.14 is pi

dart (Jan 16, 2004 1:22:32 PM)
MoC is going to be the best recruit in this class?

Dope (Jan 16, 2004 1:22:43 PM)
Steve, what is your take on Hill? Seems like he couls play a variety of positions.

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 1:22:56 PM)
enough with the clutter, please. I have to scroll back a long way to find ???

Fighter59 (Jan 16, 2004 1:22:57 PM)
How can one chat, without having a conversation?

Josh (Jan 16, 2004 1:23:05 PM)
Steve, why have the buckeyes lost all interest in Alfred Martin?

BUTTERFLY (Jan 16, 2004 1:23:25 PM)

birdiemosh (Jan 16, 2004 1:23:33 PM)
Is Pitt concerned that they might lose Johnson, have you heard? I would imagine they are doing everything to stop him from uncommitting.

birdiemosh (Jan 16, 2004 1:23:49 PM)
good point Fighter!

MrBuckeye (Jan 16, 2004 1:23:56 PM)
Steve, what happened with Jacky Claude that we just seemed to drop off his list? His academic issues?

BUTTERFLY (Jan 16, 2004 1:24:12 PM)
i am not a fighter i am a lover hahaha

tsteele316 (Jan 16, 2004 1:24:19 PM)
Steve, will osu bank any schollys for next year, or will we use them all if the talent is right?

Josh (Jan 16, 2004 1:24:32 PM)
Has anybody seen video clips of Gartrell Shavers?

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 1:24:33 PM)
47, regarding Clarett, I think if he gets a court ruling in his favor he still goes. They are saying and doing all the right things right now. They can't make statements like attorney did today that he wants to come back. That is hollow without knowing whether he is eligible or not.

BUTTERFLY (Jan 16, 2004 1:24:58 PM)
i have seen the clips

ucfpengbuck (Jan 16, 2004 1:25:11 PM)
Steve, what do you know about Brandon Smith(lb Cleveland area)? Was he a reach or does JT and the staff know something?

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 1:25:15 PM)
birdiemosh, I think academics preclude OSU from signing Shavers, but maybe he ends up here down the line.

Josh (Jan 16, 2004 1:25:19 PM)
he reminds me of an edgerrin james

gobux36 (Jan 16, 2004 1:25:27 PM)
who is the kid pictured with ginn, davis and freeman from the army all-star game?

Dope (Jan 16, 2004 1:25:41 PM)
williams in the picture

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 1:25:46 PM)
scribeohio, we are holding up well under the onslaught. Helps to have Duane, Gary, Charles, Kirk and Dave on our side. Split up the work and makes it easier.

birdiemosh (Jan 16, 2004 1:25:57 PM)
I think it's Jamario O'Neal gobux

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 1:26:09 PM)
steele, I think they can still take 6 more guys. I will sit down and rethink that, but I think they still have room for 6 more.

jamieNH (Jan 16, 2004 1:26:13 PM)
Steve, Can you speak about Ray Williams, his academics and his future. Sure would love to have that kid!

birdiemosh (Jan 16, 2004 1:26:15 PM)
He's a commit for next year

Dope (Jan 16, 2004 1:26:19 PM)
no, its R. Williams, Oneal is a junior and would not be in uniform

ozbuck (Jan 16, 2004 1:26:25 PM)
Do you get the feeling that D'Andrea at DE is going to be the eventual positiion for him? He seems to be too good of an athlete to have sitting on the bench.

Fighter59 (Jan 16, 2004 1:26:31 PM)
The chat should be renamed ask the insiders, oh wait, that's what the board is named.

gobux36 (Jan 16, 2004 1:26:45 PM)
thanks dope

Josh (Jan 16, 2004 1:26:46 PM)
D'Andrea will be a DE next year

birdiemosh (Jan 16, 2004 1:27:00 PM)
sorry gobux, my bad

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 1:27:07 PM)
ozbuck, Bryant and Johnson are likely to end up at Pitt, but they're here this weekend, let's see what happens. Hart is 50-50 between Auburn. I think mom wants him closer to home, but what does she know (just kidding, of course)?

Josh (Jan 16, 2004 1:27:07 PM)
I look for Jay Richardson to having a big year at DE

Dope (Jan 16, 2004 1:27:10 PM)
D'Andrea will NEVER EVER be DE, he may red shirt next year. trust me

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 1:27:47 PM)
birdiemosh, no talk of a 3-4 that I know of. Their defense is just fine the way it is.

birdiemosh (Jan 16, 2004 1:27:58 PM)
just a thought

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 1:28:03 PM)
tsteele, no they hold a spot for Lyons, remember they can oversign if need be.

ottawa (Jan 16, 2004 1:28:06 PM)
Steve, Pardon me if this is a repeated question. With this being such a critical recruiting weekend with Bryant, Johnson, and Walker, how can it be successful if JT is not there?

MrBuckeye (Jan 16, 2004 1:28:34 PM)
good question

ToledoBUCK (Jan 16, 2004 1:28:40 PM)
Steve, can you briefly comment on the Malik Hairston situation? Is our horrible play helping or hurting the situation IYO?

gobux36 (Jan 16, 2004 1:28:41 PM)
we are stacked at mike with schlegel and kerr we need more at de. i say move d'andrea also.

Dope (Jan 16, 2004 1:29:16 PM)
why in the heck would you even consider moving Danimal? The coaches havent!!

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 1:29:38 PM)
somebody asked about pressuring Davis to decide, OSU will not do that. They can oversign if need be. Jarrett will have a letter in front of him if there is any indication he could still end up here. As for the meeting with Fickell, it went well our sources say. Tressel may provide some clarity upon his triumphant return from Hawaii. Jenkins just set a rec., yardage record playing for Tressel. That should speak volumes.

BUTTERFLY (Jan 16, 2004 1:29:52 PM)
hey steve u talk alot

Fighter59 (Jan 16, 2004 1:30:03 PM)
Most of thes ?'s can be answered by reading the first few pages of the board.

birdiemosh (Jan 16, 2004 1:30:08 PM)
I love the thought of D'Andrea, Carpenter and Hawk on the same field. SCARY (for opponents that is)

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 1:30:10 PM)
ToledoBuck, no I think Morelli is still with Pitt.

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 1:30:33 PM)
cantonbuck, yes, Mitchum plans to commit in person at the school he chooses, a bit different, but neat nonetheless.

Wizzle (Jan 16, 2004 1:30:41 PM)
Hey guys, sorry if this question was already asked, but who all is visiting this weekend besides Johnsons and Bryant

papawoody11 (Jan 16, 2004 1:31:13 PM)
steve, I'm still concerned at WR i feel fred davis is heading out of state, how good of chances do we have at Jarrett, & or Dukes & which one do you like more?

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 1:31:24 PM)
KBug4, no Ginn playing WR-DB has no impact on Davis. They are friends in fact.

Schony14 (Jan 16, 2004 1:31:27 PM)
How can a team over sign????

gobux36 (Jan 16, 2004 1:31:51 PM)
i want d'animal on the field as well, i just don't he beats out schlegel or kerr at the mike. plus he is getting even bigger. would be a fast de imho.

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 1:32:00 PM)
Josh, chances on Clarett's return? If he gets a court ruling, 95-5 against his return. Without the court ruling, 100-0 he's back.

Fighter59 (Jan 16, 2004 1:32:06 PM)
Where did Rip play football?

hondo (Jan 16, 2004 1:32:07 PM)
IMaybe I misunderstood, but I thought Mithcum was going to meet with all three coaches to tell them what he was doing?

dart (Jan 16, 2004 1:32:29 PM)
Steve How do you like the latest commits? Seems like Patteson is an excellent Student/athlete and Barrow is a little of a project...Do you agree?

hh (Jan 16, 2004 1:32:36 PM)
Steve, what do you know about the current transfer situation(s)?

ottawa (Jan 16, 2004 1:32:41 PM)
He is, but he' announcing at the school of choice

tsteele316 (Jan 16, 2004 1:32:46 PM)
I hear the state of Ohio is deep in talent next year, aside from boone, o'neal, ringer, an manningham, are there any potential blue chippers?

Redondo (Jan 16, 2004 1:32:52 PM)
Steve -

KBug4 (Jan 16, 2004 1:33:00 PM)
Was Roy Hall rated as high as Fred Davis?

osufan101 (Jan 16, 2004 1:33:03 PM)
isnt a lil early for 05 stuff?

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 1:33:08 PM)
Dope, don't know what to make of Hill, missed his visit because of weather and may now be in limbo. Was supposed to come back this weekend or next, but I have not confirmed a date for him yet.

birdiemosh (Jan 16, 2004 1:33:12 PM)
Does Curt Lukens start next year?

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 1:33:42 PM)
Josh, Buckeyes lost interest in Martin because they feel they have enough quality DL on scholarship or possibly signing. Plus, they just got Gholston and Barrow.

hondo (Jan 16, 2004 1:34:04 PM)
Steve, I know its been asked but I wasn't here yet. Do you think Davis will still be a Buckeye?

Redondo (Jan 16, 2004 1:34:04 PM)
steve - has MoC made restitution on the $$$ and done the other things he needed to do?

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 1:34:21 PM)
birdiemosh, yes, I think Pitt is concerned about Johnson. He is supposed to see Florida and/or Miami after OSU. I'd be really concerned.

tsteele316 (Jan 16, 2004 1:34:30 PM)
I heard Clarett contacted one of those draft analysts that underclassmen often consult when determining possible draft status. Did anyone else hear this?

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 1:34:45 PM)
Mr.Buckeye, not sure about Claude. Saw him at camp. Would have been nice, but I like Mitchum, Hart or Zuttah better.

osufan101 (Jan 16, 2004 1:35:00 PM)
if he is challengind the draft im sure hge has concsulted them

osufan101 (Jan 16, 2004 1:35:03 PM)
it would only make sense

ottawa (Jan 16, 2004 1:35:22 PM)
I agree

Wizzle (Jan 16, 2004 1:35:27 PM)
Steve, who all is visiting OSU this weekend?

birdiemosh (Jan 16, 2004 1:35:31 PM)
Johnson would be stuck in Miami

Dope (Jan 16, 2004 1:35:34 PM)
Steve, which DE out there would you prefer to see OSU land? Would we take more than one of Hall, Harvey, Anderson, Young. I think it looks good for Anderson.

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 1:35:36 PM)
tsteele, banking scholarships? No, next year in Ohio, to me is not as good. I think you get the best players you can today and worry about tomorrow tomorrow.

BuckeyeDave (Jan 16, 2004 1:35:46 PM)
Redondo - If you mean the cell phone bills, thats one thing, if you mean from the insurance claim, thats another. Since there won't be an insurance claim trial, it'll be hard to PROVE how much the restitution should be.

tsteele316 (Jan 16, 2004 1:35:49 PM)
that is what i figured, but if he has heard that his draft status isnt what he had hoped, then it could stand to reason that he may be back afterall.

papawoody11 (Jan 16, 2004 1:36:07 PM)
i think we have no chance at harvey

papawoody11 (Jan 16, 2004 1:36:27 PM)
from what i've read i hope for anderson or young

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 1:36:29 PM)
ucfpengbuck, saw Smith at camp and liked him. He's like 6-2, 220 or 230. Nice player, had a great senior year and they offered him. Could be a nice player here. Just needs to develop.

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 1:36:51 PM)
gobuc, kid in pic is Ray Williams from Benedictine, Mr. Football and late addition to All-American game.

dart (Jan 16, 2004 1:37:28 PM)

Wizzle (Jan 16, 2004 1:37:29 PM)
Steve, what are our chances with Darius Walker?

gobux36 (Jan 16, 2004 1:37:32 PM)
thanks steve . hopefully a future buckeye.

BuckeyeDave (Jan 16, 2004 1:37:56 PM)
Steve - Any suggestions on starting a grass root movement to get JT on automatically offer a scholarship to Ohio's Mr. Football? Who we should write, etc?

papawoody11 (Jan 16, 2004 1:38:01 PM)
i want walker more than johnson

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 1:38:33 PM)
jamieNH, I like Williams as well. I think he is destined for a year at a prep school. No hope apparently of being eligible. Then he would come to OSU next year.

MrBuckeye (Jan 16, 2004 1:38:45 PM)
not if getting johnson means we also get bryant, which is likely.

Susan (Jan 16, 2004 1:38:51 PM)
Hi Steve. I see you're packing them in. ;)

gobux36 (Jan 16, 2004 1:38:55 PM)
buckeye dave i agree-if the kid qualifies get him.

edbuck51 (Jan 16, 2004 1:39:11 PM)
Steve. Do you think this Mr.Football offer is plausible? I think it is ridiculous.

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 1:39:11 PM)
ozbuck, nope, don't see D'Andrea at DE. He is an LB. I like it when they turn him loose against QBs, but he's an LB.

birdiemosh (Jan 16, 2004 1:39:25 PM)
I'm surprised more RBs aren't interested in Columbus. With the MoC situation and Hall and Ross gone after this year, it would be great fit. Hopefully Tony Pittman or Haw turn out to be great ones

osufan101 (Jan 16, 2004 1:39:35 PM)
if not

osufan101 (Jan 16, 2004 1:39:40 PM)
we can get ringer next year

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 1:40:11 PM)
ottawa, JT is where he should be -- coaching an all-star game from Hawaii on national TV. He will be back Monday to see these kids off. See it all works out.

papawoody11 (Jan 16, 2004 1:40:18 PM)
it's time for deandrea to put up like hawk, he was supposed to be alot better

osufan101 (Jan 16, 2004 1:40:35 PM)
i thnk he may be a late bloomer

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 1:40:44 PM)
ToledoBuck, on Malik Hairston, yes, OSU's terrible play is a factor. Why would he want to come down here and be surrounded by this collection of ... I think it is a major factor.

osufan101 (Jan 16, 2004 1:40:48 PM)
he will show his stuff next couple seasons

hondo (Jan 16, 2004 1:40:55 PM)
i think he is more athletic than Hawk

ottawa (Jan 16, 2004 1:41:01 PM)
I agree, remember George

Wizzle (Jan 16, 2004 1:41:25 PM)
does anyone know the pecking order behind Santonio Holmes next year at WR

papawoody11 (Jan 16, 2004 1:41:32 PM)
he was # 2 lb in the country

tsteele316 (Jan 16, 2004 1:41:35 PM)
i heard d'andrea is having a lot of trouble grasping the D schemes. if he can't grasp the LB schemes, wouldnt he be better served to move to a spot where he can just rely on his natural abilities

gobux36 (Jan 16, 2004 1:41:41 PM)
maybe coach tressel should pick mr. football then everybody is happy. i think ginn should have won it anyway and tressel got his man

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 1:42:13 PM)
Wizzle, may be as many as 6 visitors: Walker, Bryant, Johnson, Jarrett, Pettrey, Kennedy are the names I have heard.

tsteele316 (Jan 16, 2004 1:42:15 PM)
i think it would be roy hall and childress behind holmes, not factoring in recruits. perhaps devin jordan is in the mix

daytonabuck (Jan 16, 2004 1:42:33 PM)
looking at this class so far..maybe JT should just keep doing whatever it is he is doing

Wizzle (Jan 16, 2004 1:42:34 PM)
Thanks Steve

birdiemosh (Jan 16, 2004 1:42:40 PM)
papa, in fairness to D'Andrea, he has been slow to come back from injury. Take it easy on him

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 1:42:55 PM)
papawoody, as I've said I have a source that says Dukes will sign here over N.C. State. Jarrett you have a 30 percent shot.

lv-buckeye (Jan 16, 2004 1:42:55 PM)
have i missed any big news?

papawoody11 (Jan 16, 2004 1:42:56 PM)
steve, when davise heads out west how good of chances do we have with Jarrett/Dukes

BuckeyeDave (Jan 16, 2004 1:43:12 PM)
PapaWoody - be patient. D'Andrea will come along. Remeber how mediocre Cie Grant was at DB, then was a monster at speed LB the next year. Give him a little time. Also, nobody had heard of Terry Glenn 'til his last year, then he was a huge WR.

osufan101 (Jan 16, 2004 1:43:12 PM)
i think they are good either way

papawoody11 (Jan 16, 2004 1:43:27 PM)
sorry i didn't see the answer i thought he passed it

Susan (Jan 16, 2004 1:43:43 PM)
now d'andrea has another very serious injury to overcome..steve, any word if he's expected to be reay for spring workouts?

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 1:43:49 PM)
Schony14, for years teams in South have been permitted by their conferences to "oversign" (i.e. issue more letters than they have scholarships available). Big Ten finally allowed it last year, but Tressel is reluctant to do so. This will be the case study on that, won't it?

gobux36 (Jan 16, 2004 1:44:15 PM)
suan-new injury?

ottawa (Jan 16, 2004 1:44:31 PM)
dislocated shoulder late in the season

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 1:44:58 PM)
dart, Patterson and Gholston both great kids and potential stars. I think Barrow is a guy who could eventually play all 4 DL positions. A likely RS and then see what happens.

Wizzle (Jan 16, 2004 1:45:11 PM)
i've dislocated my shoulder in baseball a couple times, D andrea should be ready by spring practice I would think

BUTTERFLY (Jan 16, 2004 1:45:20 PM)
whats going on all

Susan (Jan 16, 2004 1:45:25 PM)
that's my concern about mike...shoulder injuries are one of the worst to recover from

Schony14 (Jan 16, 2004 1:45:26 PM)
Good case study, but is it the athletes who loose out (sign with a team and find out they don't have a scholarship)?

Susan (Jan 16, 2004 1:45:36 PM)
but wizzle, he tore a muscle too

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 1:45:40 PM)
KBug4, Hall was highly rated, maybe not as high as top 25 nationally. But was well regarded.

osufan101 (Jan 16, 2004 1:45:44 PM)
iive been rehabing mine for 4 weeks

osufan101 (Jan 16, 2004 1:45:54 PM)
and they said ill need at least 6 weeks more

BuckeyeDave (Jan 16, 2004 1:46:22 PM)
Steve - Schony makes a good point. What happens if a school oversigns? Do some of the recruits just get scholarships w/out playing ball?

edbuck51 (Jan 16, 2004 1:46:25 PM)
Any insight into how JT might add another coach on this staff?

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 1:46:27 PM)
birdiemosh, no Lukens is now a backup LB. will be used on special teams. Specials teams should get a bump with Lukens, Gonzalez and Hiley all eligible to play now (or coming off RS year, rather).

gobux36 (Jan 16, 2004 1:46:37 PM)
d'animal is a monster in the gym he will be fine

Susan (Jan 16, 2004 1:46:44 PM)
i had a problem with my shoulder last yrs...i was in rehab from april until sept

ottawa (Jan 16, 2004 1:46:47 PM)
Give it Time, Fickel was quoted as saying he wants to work out more than he' allowed to.

birdiemosh (Jan 16, 2004 1:47:10 PM)
thx Steve

osufan101 (Jan 16, 2004 1:47:20 PM)

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 1:47:21 PM)
Dope, any 2 of those DEs you mentioned would be great. I have talked to Hall and Anderson personally and like both those kids a lot.

gobux36 (Jan 16, 2004 1:47:51 PM)
anderson looks huge!!

papawoody11 (Jan 16, 2004 1:47:59 PM)
Steve, I'm might be wrong but i can't see johnson & or morelli decommitting from pitt, i believe if bryant wants to play with johnson it will be at pitt, but i feel like bryant is headed for tosu, any thoughts?

osufan101 (Jan 16, 2004 1:48:04 PM)
gholston is a monster also

Wizzle (Jan 16, 2004 1:48:19 PM)
what is andersons first name?

BuckeyeDave (Jan 16, 2004 1:48:23 PM)
Susan - do you play sports regularly? Makes a big difference. I recovered from an appendectomy in about 1/2 the normal time because my abs were strong.

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 1:48:25 PM)
Wizzle, Darius Walker tells me he is open, then I read he told ND site he was favoring ND and Willingham (a desperate man at this point cause it ain't going well there) is pulling out all the stops. Let's see after he visits tOSU this weekend what he says.

MrBuckeye (Jan 16, 2004 1:48:32 PM)

Dope (Jan 16, 2004 1:50:02 PM)
Soory to ask but Susza, who it the dude & girl in EVERY post of yours?

birdiemosh (Jan 16, 2004 1:50:04 PM)
We'll get him. And Leon Hart too! 26-2 the last two (2) years will get them to commit

birdiemosh (Jan 16, 2004 1:50:18 PM)
25-2, sorry.

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 1:50:20 PM)
BuckeyeDave, no I do not agree with automatic offer for Mr. Ftb. I have a lot of opinions on that. That's Gary's baby, not mine. First of all, it went to the wrong guy this year, or at worst Ray and Ted should have been co-Mr. Ftb. OSU's hands should not be tied by having to offer a guy chosen by sportswriters. Nope, nope, nope. Let's say he's some Division 6 kid with 4,000 yards, but he's 5-10, 180. Gets here and can't play. All the players would out him. Nope, nope, nope.

BuckeyeDave (Jan 16, 2004 1:50:38 PM)
Has anyone noticed that MC has pretty much kept his mouth shut for the passed 4-5 months? Is he finally getting it? And who is he listening to?

Susan, thanks. I was curious. Your daughter is lovely (must take after mom) :)

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 1:51:20 PM)
following up, this is still the Big Ten, right. Scholarships here have to be earned, not won in a popularity contest. Say they pick 3 duds in a row. Now you've got 3 duds tying up spots. Nope, nope, nope.

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 1:53:01 PM)
Susan, hopes are high D'Andrea will be back in spring. But they will not rush him so he can prove something in April. Shoulders are touchy. I guess we'll check on his progress in March and see if they know how full-go he will be.

osufan101 (Jan 16, 2004 1:53:03 PM)

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 1:53:27 PM)
Schony 14, in terms of oversigning, it usually works out. Somebody gets hurt or doesn't qualify or just plain leaves. It usually works out.

birdiemosh (Jan 16, 2004 1:53:57 PM)
Steve, I have heard you on with Kenny Roda from Cleveland Station WKNR. You got me to sign up with bucknuts.com and I absolutely love it. Thanks for keeping us die hard Buckeye fans so up to date! Keep up the good work. I'll be a subscriber for life

steve don't forget JT had great stats at a small school principles of success apply at any level

Susan (Jan 16, 2004 1:54:14 PM)
Steve is someone like McNutt remains on scholarhip but can no longer play football, does his scholarhip count toward the total?

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 1:54:24 PM)
edbuck51, I have a name of a coach Tressel apparently interviewed. I will be checking to confirm that either today or Mon. Stay tuned.

kurgan74 (Jan 16, 2004 1:54:29 PM)
Steve what do you think the chances of landing Nader Abdallah are?

BuckeyeDave (Jan 16, 2004 1:54:36 PM)
Steve - was it you or Gary that said ther would be important MC news in Dec? Which ever it was , was right on the $$, if only a month or so off.!. Good call!!

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 1:54:45 PM)
Again, he wants a WRs coach, young who can recruit.

Susan (Jan 16, 2004 1:54:47 PM)
dave..that was gary

AFAN (Jan 16, 2004 1:55:08 PM)
Steve, no QB coach?

dart (Jan 16, 2004 1:55:16 PM)
Steve....Can you say who your biggest immediate help will be in this class? Ginn? Would that alsos be the greatest impact oplayer over the course of time or someone else?

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 1:55:48 PM)
papawoody, johnson and Bryant would like to play at same school, but that will not be the final determining factor.

osu13 (Jan 16, 2004 1:55:54 PM)
what happens if oversigning doesn't work out(not enough guys transfer, hurt...), and we have 87 promised scholerships for 85 slots?

Buckeyefreak (Jan 16, 2004 1:56:00 PM)
Darn! I was hoping for Mike Tomczak as new qb coach

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 1:56:24 PM)
tsteele, OSU has a backup center in Datish. Skinner not rated highly becayse he missed much of junior year. But he is a potential monster up front. Huge.

BuckeyeDave (Jan 16, 2004 1:56:28 PM)
B-Freak - Herbstreit!!!

osumac (Jan 16, 2004 1:56:28 PM)

Buckeyefreak (Jan 16, 2004 1:56:50 PM)
b-dave: haha!

gobux36 (Jan 16, 2004 1:56:53 PM)
did anyone else hope we brought in spielman as a lb coach?

kurgan74 (Jan 16, 2004 1:57:00 PM)
I did

AFAN (Jan 16, 2004 1:57:04 PM)
Buckeyefreak, that is what I was thinking too

MYRONACEBUCK (Jan 16, 2004 1:57:10 PM)
any chance

birdiemosh (Jan 16, 2004 1:57:10 PM)
Herbstreit is great at what he does. Leave him on the national spotlight so he can continue to bring the love to Columbus!

osumac (Jan 16, 2004 1:57:19 PM)
does spielman want to come here?

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 1:57:20 PM)
Dope, maybe 1-2 more DEs. Never have enough good big guys who can run and play.

osufan101 (Jan 16, 2004 1:57:29 PM)
herbstriet is one of the few in not the only major sports personality who loves osu

BuckeyeDave (Jan 16, 2004 1:57:44 PM)
Has anybody heard Spielman do CFB analysis? He's great!

Buckeyefreak (Jan 16, 2004 1:57:45 PM)
AFAN- :-) maybe JT hear our voices on M. Tomczak

birdiemosh (Jan 16, 2004 1:57:51 PM)
and he shows it which is great!

osufan101 (Jan 16, 2004 1:57:51 PM)

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 1:57:54 PM)
Smelly Cat, I agree on John Porentas.. One of the 4-5 best people I know in the world. Helped me tremendously in my hour of need and now I will be returning that favor. Great guy.

osufan101 (Jan 16, 2004 1:57:57 PM)
but espn is much bigger

gobux36 (Jan 16, 2004 1:58:04 PM)
i heard spiels is involved with the columbus arena team

kurgan74 (Jan 16, 2004 1:58:10 PM)
I really want Nader Abdallah....you can never have too many solid DT's

BuckeyeDave (Jan 16, 2004 1:58:26 PM)
Isn't Spielman involved in the Columbus Arena Football team?

Susan (Jan 16, 2004 1:58:28 PM)
if you watch espn2's cold pizza morning show...Jay Crawford is a big buckeye fan...the week of THE GAME..he was touting the Buckeyes all week

MYRONACEBUCK (Jan 16, 2004 1:58:37 PM)
Steve, is harvey out of the picture now??

Schony14 (Jan 16, 2004 1:58:39 PM)
I gotta go - Thanks Steve for all the info

osufan101 (Jan 16, 2004 1:58:47 PM)
i never get 2 see cold pizza

birdiemosh (Jan 16, 2004 1:58:48 PM)
Steve, do you think Tressel will go with a 2-QB system next year? (I hope not)

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 1:59:05 PM)
birdiemosh, appreciate the kind words. No, SmellyCat, I know people coming and going all the time (here and on boards) will ask same ??? all the time. Once in a while the answers change (VBG).

BuckeyeDave (Jan 16, 2004 1:59:15 PM)
OSUFan101 - More $$$.

MYRONACEBUCK (Jan 16, 2004 1:59:21 PM)
what does VBG mean

osufan101 (Jan 16, 2004 1:59:24 PM)

gobux36 (Jan 16, 2004 1:59:27 PM)
birdiemosh remember stanley jackson?

Susan (Jan 16, 2004 1:59:29 PM)

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 1:59:31 PM)
Susan, no McNutt got what they call a medical waiver so OSU can reissue the scholarship and he still gets his scholarship.

birdiemosh (Jan 16, 2004 1:59:32 PM)

Susan (Jan 16, 2004 2:00:02 PM)
ok..so if adam olds can't continue to play..a freed up scholarship would come from him?

birdiemosh (Jan 16, 2004 2:00:17 PM)
I wasn't a big fan of Jackson's.

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 2:00:19 PM)
kurgan74, Abdallah would be a GREAT get as a DT. I think he stays down South, but maybe he proves me wrong.

kurgan74 (Jan 16, 2004 2:00:31 PM)

Dope (Jan 16, 2004 2:00:32 PM)
I would love to see us land Abdallah

BuckeyeDave (Jan 16, 2004 2:00:33 PM)
gobux36 - I was trying to forget Jackson. thanks a lot! ;-)

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 2:00:40 PM)
BuckeyeDave, Gary is the one tuned in to Clarett. Wake me when he scores his next TD at Stade Ohio.

Dope (Jan 16, 2004 2:00:52 PM)
watch for a committ this wekend, peace out folks

gobux36 (Jan 16, 2004 2:00:55 PM)
sorry dave

Buckeyefreak (Jan 16, 2004 2:00:59 PM)
Jackson is in Canada Football League now as a starter!

gobux36 (Jan 16, 2004 2:01:16 PM)
really for whom?

Buckeyefreak (Jan 16, 2004 2:01:23 PM)
I am not sure

Buckeyefreak (Jan 16, 2004 2:01:28 PM)
Montrel I think

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 2:01:39 PM)
dart, biggest immediate help, maybe one of the RBs if Clarett doesn't come back, probably Ginn as well. Maybe Freeman on special teams. Maybe one of the OL at open tackle spot.

Buckeyefreak (Jan 16, 2004 2:01:40 PM)

BuckeyeDave (Jan 16, 2004 2:01:40 PM)
Steve - If Clarett scores another TD at Ohio Field, I owe my brother $5.

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 2:02:02 PM)
osu13, it always works out. Somebody may not qualify or somebody gets hurt. It's 9 months to kick off.

gobux36 (Jan 16, 2004 2:02:03 PM)
bigger field better for his style probably

dart (Jan 16, 2004 2:02:06 PM)

kurgan74 (Jan 16, 2004 2:02:10 PM)
I'd say you'll have to pay up

birdiemosh (Jan 16, 2004 2:02:29 PM)
I hope you have to pay BuckeyeDave....no offense!

birdiemosh (Jan 16, 2004 2:02:39 PM)
and no pun intended!

osufan101 (Jan 16, 2004 2:02:45 PM)

gobux36 (Jan 16, 2004 2:03:05 PM)
i bet zwick REALLY wants clarett back

horse (Jan 16, 2004 2:03:11 PM)

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 2:03:21 PM)
MYRON, it seems Harvey is out of the picture. But he hasn't announced yet. He still has Fla. and Tenn. trips to take.

BuckeyeDave (Jan 16, 2004 2:03:25 PM)
Kurgan74 - Clarett was just cleared to practice with the team. My prediction for MC has gone from "No way, no how" to "See ya at the Orange Bowl"! Its worth the $5.

horse (Jan 16, 2004 2:03:36 PM)
Do you think Clarrett would go in the first second or third round

bellybuck (Jan 16, 2004 2:03:38 PM)
Hey Steve-I saw that Mcmullen is playing in an all-star game this weekend-what are you hearing about his pro chances?

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 2:03:43 PM)
Susan, yes, if Olds is declared done, OSU would get to give his slot to somebody else and he would keep his scholarship.

SmellyCat (Jan 16, 2004 2:04:04 PM)
Clarett will be a man on a mission if he gets back. Just hope he stays healtyh.

osumac (Jan 16, 2004 2:04:15 PM)
I think he would have gone higher than he was told

gobux36 (Jan 16, 2004 2:04:18 PM)
horse - now or in year ?

horse (Jan 16, 2004 2:04:24 PM)

osumac (Jan 16, 2004 2:04:25 PM)
he probably would have gone in the 2nd

horse (Jan 16, 2004 2:04:31 PM)
Question is for steve

birdiemosh (Jan 16, 2004 2:04:37 PM)
Is Clarett's stinger healed? I'm thinking he may have that his whole career

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 2:04:38 PM)
BuckeyeDave, I hope you have to pay that bet. If he scores 20, do you owe him $100? Because that would be good, too (VeryBigGrin)

BuckeyeDave (Jan 16, 2004 2:04:43 PM)
SmellyCat - Watch him change the way he runs. So he takes fewer direct hits.

gobux36 (Jan 16, 2004 2:04:54 PM)
risky pick with the injury

osumac (Jan 16, 2004 2:05:08 PM)
sorry horse, just thought i could help...

Buckeyefreak (Jan 16, 2004 2:05:10 PM)
As long as Ross is healthy, Zwick or Smith should be fine with offense. Bigger bonus if MoC returns

horse (Jan 16, 2004 2:05:21 PM)
go ahead asumac

osufan101 (Jan 16, 2004 2:05:28 PM)
i honestly think haw is gonna challenge for pt

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 2:05:34 PM)
gobux36, everybody over there (except maybe Lydell) wants Clarett back and even then I think Ross has matured and gotten over their little spat from 2 years ago.

tsteele316 (Jan 16, 2004 2:05:47 PM)
Who do you project will be the OL starters?

gobux36 (Jan 16, 2004 2:05:55 PM)
i am excited about haw as well

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 2:06:05 PM)
horse, this year, Clarett would be somewhere from pick 20 and up to the second round. Next year, with a good proving injury-free year, maybe as high as top 10.

SmellyCat (Jan 16, 2004 2:06:08 PM)
WE are Big 10 favorites with MO back.

birdiemosh (Jan 16, 2004 2:06:09 PM)
Haven't seen haw play. Did he play D-1?

MrBuckeye (Jan 16, 2004 2:06:20 PM)
Steve, where does Fox play next year?

osufan101 (Jan 16, 2004 2:06:21 PM)

osufan101 (Jan 16, 2004 2:06:24 PM)

osufan101 (Jan 16, 2004 2:06:29 PM)
great vision

Buckeyefreak (Jan 16, 2004 2:06:31 PM)
hey steve, is Haw also a bit power back? I like combo of power and speed back

osumac (Jan 16, 2004 2:06:32 PM)
he was probably told late 2nd i'm guessing--but he probably would have gone a little earlier because juniors like benson from texas and williams from auburn ranked above him decided to return for their senior years

MYRONACEBUCK (Jan 16, 2004 2:06:33 PM)
thankyou for writing VBG out stev

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 2:06:33 PM)

BuckeyeDave (Jan 16, 2004 2:07:31 PM)
Steve - Sorry, the bet was wether or not MC returns at all, $5 limit.

gobux36 (Jan 16, 2004 2:07:36 PM)
steve what does our starting defensive backfield look like next year -is whitner a starter?

birdiemosh (Jan 16, 2004 2:07:36 PM)
I'm rooting for him, believe me!

osufan101 (Jan 16, 2004 2:07:37 PM)

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 2:07:48 PM)
bellybuck, McMullen will be in somebody's camp. Up to him then to complete balls (to his side) and win a job. I think he might stick somewhere because he can certainly play.

osufan101 (Jan 16, 2004 2:07:50 PM)

osufan101 (Jan 16, 2004 2:08:24 PM)
anda 4.21

sthenrybuckeye (Jan 16, 2004 2:08:31 PM)
Steve, if part of Reecie's NCAA agreement is to pay back the money he got illegally, how does he do that? Where's he going to get money if he doesn't have a job?

birdiemosh (Jan 16, 2004 2:08:34 PM)
sounds like he's got it all...how come he wasn't a 4 or 5-star rated player?

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 2:08:37 PM)
tsteele, OL starters Mangold at center, Sims at LT, Kne at guard or tackle, that leaves 2 open spots between Coleman, Schafer (T), Barton (T), Datish and Downing (at least this spring).

osufan101 (Jan 16, 2004 2:08:39 PM)

osufan101 (Jan 16, 2004 2:08:46 PM)
i think is bc his break out year

osufan101 (Jan 16, 2004 2:09:12 PM)
he and r williams should be 4-5 * imho

birdiemosh (Jan 16, 2004 2:09:15 PM)
4.21 certainly doesn't suck! That's Drew Carter speed!

osufan101 (Jan 16, 2004 2:09:32 PM)
it was in the free edition of that oh hs mag

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 2:09:33 PM)
Mr. Buckeye, Fox will be at corner. You have to keep him there because you lost Gamble, in my opinion. Plus, he should not be needed at safety.

osufan101 (Jan 16, 2004 2:09:37 PM)
i got via bucknuts

osumac (Jan 16, 2004 2:09:53 PM)
4.21 for haw?? was he being timed manually?

osufan101 (Jan 16, 2004 2:09:58 PM)

osufan101 (Jan 16, 2004 2:10:03 PM)
thats what i said in mag

osufan101 (Jan 16, 2004 2:10:07 PM)
brb ill go check it

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 2:10:12 PM)
gobux36, starting DBs: Fox and either Underwood or Youboty at CB and Salley and either Whitner, Mitchell or Everett at safety. One of the extra safeties will be the nickel back.

osumac (Jan 16, 2004 2:10:22 PM)
i knew he was fast, but he's not that fast

birdiemosh (Jan 16, 2004 2:10:38 PM)
Is Glenville just loaded with speed or what?

osufan101 (Jan 16, 2004 2:10:52 PM)
ohio high mag says

birdiemosh (Jan 16, 2004 2:10:53 PM)
Last year Whitner and now Ginn. Next year, O'Neal...WOW!

Buckeyefreak (Jan 16, 2004 2:10:58 PM)
That how Haw got offer- Spencer's eyes pop out when he saw Haw's speed on timer.

dcbuck (Jan 16, 2004 2:11:04 PM)
haw was timed at both OSU and Michigan's camp at a sub 4.3, however, from the other times post from OSU's camp they were all very low

gobux36 (Jan 16, 2004 2:11:12 PM)
i can't believe the speed that tressel is bringing. maybe we can have some "southern speed" since we are a slow b10 school(right canes)

osufan101 (Jan 16, 2004 2:11:14 PM)
3030 rush yards 4,21 and 4,28 40 times at osu camp

osufan101 (Jan 16, 2004 2:11:25 PM)
6-1 210

birdiemosh (Jan 16, 2004 2:11:25 PM)
Numbers don't lie!!!

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 2:11:26 PM)
Haw has some power. Like 205-210 pounds and great speed and vision. Nice player. Will defnitely get a look early. Pittman not sure, to be honest. Great speed, I'll have to see more of him to give you a better idea.

birdiemosh (Jan 16, 2004 2:12:01 PM)
It's not like Haw played against slugs in HS

Buckeyefreak (Jan 16, 2004 2:12:14 PM)
Hey Steve, which tOSU back in the history was your ideal rb that tOSU should get every year?

osufan101 (Jan 16, 2004 2:12:19 PM)
played for columbus independence

OTC (Jan 16, 2004 2:12:42 PM)

birdiemosh (Jan 16, 2004 2:12:51 PM)

Next year, we should look for Byars-like rb in nation!

osufan101 (Jan 16, 2004 2:16:43 PM)
was pete carrol at frickers in maumee

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 2:16:45 PM)
bellybuck, nobody is living up to expectations. They take bad shots, turn the ball over and don't defend. Looks like they still haven't been coached. The voice thing may be the ultimate culprit, but O'Brien will not admit that.

osufan101 (Jan 16, 2004 2:16:48 PM)
cause i swear i saw him there

Susan (Jan 16, 2004 2:16:54 PM)
i loved Keith Byars

beathegophers (Jan 16, 2004 2:17:05 PM)
Steve, when signing day arrives, where do we stand in rankings?

birdiemosh (Jan 16, 2004 2:17:11 PM)
My favorite was Eddie! No last name needed!

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 2:17:11 PM)
MYRON, not sure about Jarrett timing, can't get a hold of him. Johnson and Bryant stay through Monday.

Susan (Jan 16, 2004 2:17:15 PM)
osufan..yes..it's been confirmed that carroll was in the maumee frickers

osufan101 (Jan 16, 2004 2:17:26 PM)

osufan101 (Jan 16, 2004 2:17:28 PM)
i knew it

Buckeyefreak (Jan 16, 2004 2:17:31 PM)
Susan- me too! He was HUGE with one shoe remaining ! :-)

osufan101 (Jan 16, 2004 2:17:33 PM)
my friends said i was crazy

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 2:17:35 PM)
beatthegophers, this is a top 10 class with chance for top 5 if they somehow get Mitchum, Hart, Davis and Bryant, maybe even higher.

Susan (Jan 16, 2004 2:17:35 PM)
did u see freddie with him

tsteele316 (Jan 16, 2004 2:17:37 PM)
are butler and terwilliger the real deal. osu hoopers definately need some help

osufan101 (Jan 16, 2004 2:17:45 PM)
saw a bunch of people

Susan (Jan 16, 2004 2:17:47 PM)
yes freak..i have that game on tape....

osufan101 (Jan 16, 2004 2:17:49 PM)
didnt get 2 close

hondo (Jan 16, 2004 2:17:56 PM)
Steve - I missed your Davis comments.. Do you think he stays home and plays?

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 2:18:00 PM)
tsteele, Butler is and Twig having good seniro year. We'll see.

osufan101 (Jan 16, 2004 2:18:04 PM)
he stays imho

SmellyCat (Jan 16, 2004 2:18:06 PM)
Can you repeat the odds on getting Bryant?

sthenrybuckeye (Jan 16, 2004 2:18:08 PM)
Butler is unreal. Dude can score from anywhere.

osufan101 (Jan 16, 2004 2:18:08 PM)
im from toledo

osufan101 (Jan 16, 2004 2:18:14 PM)
not heard anything contrary

birdiemosh (Jan 16, 2004 2:18:17 PM)
Steve, if we get Hart, Mitchum, and Davis, do you think we are top recruiting class this year?

SmellyCat (Jan 16, 2004 2:18:24 PM)
Fuss-Cheatum is a stiff.

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 2:18:29 PM)
hondo, I don't know about Davis. 50-50 it sounds. I think he was set to verbal to OSU, then Carroll got him to push it back.

KBug4 (Jan 16, 2004 2:18:45 PM)
Fuss is a stiff

Buckeyefreak (Jan 16, 2004 2:18:51 PM)
Susan- great game! smart of you to tape that game vs Illinois! one of best games ever

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 2:18:53 PM)
birdiemosh, not sure about No. 1. Haven't stopped to study what everybody else has done, but definitelt top 3 if that happens.

MYRONACEBUCK (Jan 16, 2004 2:18:57 PM)
i think beathegophers got a little confused about the password and nickname

hondo (Jan 16, 2004 2:18:58 PM)
I still take Fuss over Eli Brewster...

birdiemosh (Jan 16, 2004 2:19:02 PM)
Pete Carroll needs to go suck on a surfboard! What does he know about midwest football!

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 2:19:03 PM)
yes, that happens

Susan (Jan 16, 2004 2:19:31 PM)
lol mosh...i hear pete is telling all his wr recruits that they're gonna be the no. 1 guy

beathegophers (Jan 16, 2004 2:19:47 PM)
my assitant put me in wrong

bellybuck (Jan 16, 2004 2:19:51 PM)
I miss having a good hoops team-this season is very sad

tsteele316 (Jan 16, 2004 2:19:52 PM)
So at this point, does the length of time davis takes to decide help or hurt us?

gobux36 (Jan 16, 2004 2:19:57 PM)
osu running backs have had HUGE games against illinois-remember eddie in 95

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 2:19:57 PM)
I think that turned Davis off, then Carroll rode in and smoothed it out.

birdiemosh (Jan 16, 2004 2:20:03 PM)
Did M Williams announce his NFL status?

MYRONACEBUCK (Jan 16, 2004 2:20:22 PM)
mike williams is a soph

osufan101 (Jan 16, 2004 2:20:23 PM)
i know he is 1st round material

MYRONACEBUCK (Jan 16, 2004 2:20:30 PM)
if thats who your thinking of

osufan101 (Jan 16, 2004 2:20:33 PM)
good hands

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 2:20:33 PM)
tsteele, I think longer it goes now is better for OSU, honestly.

Susan (Jan 16, 2004 2:20:33 PM)
it didn't help that the toledo media made it seem like God came to town when Carroll flew in

osufan101 (Jan 16, 2004 2:20:36 PM)
and will go over themiddle

birdiemosh (Jan 16, 2004 2:20:39 PM)
exactly myronacebuck, so who's going to be #1 over him

osufan101 (Jan 16, 2004 2:20:50 PM)
toledo media is a bunch of tools

osufan101 (Jan 16, 2004 2:20:56 PM)
take what they say with a grain of salt

hondo (Jan 16, 2004 2:21:06 PM)
Maybe Davis is waiting to see if Colvin verbals there?

sthenrybuckeye (Jan 16, 2004 2:21:09 PM)
cameron colvin is still being recruited by usc. stud receiver.

osufan101 (Jan 16, 2004 2:21:20 PM)

osufan101 (Jan 16, 2004 2:21:29 PM)
davis is a sort of project

Susan (Jan 16, 2004 2:21:31 PM)
101..did u see where ch. 11 said fred was seen signing..and reported that he signed with USC while at Frickers? LOL..he was signing autographs...

birdiemosh (Jan 16, 2004 2:21:37 PM)
Davis could start at OSU next year. With Hall and Holmes, our offense might be back on the map!

osufan101 (Jan 16, 2004 2:21:37 PM)
great atheletic ability

osufan101 (Jan 16, 2004 2:21:41 PM)
played rb at rogers

osufan101 (Jan 16, 2004 2:21:44 PM)
not much receiving

tsteele316 (Jan 16, 2004 2:21:53 PM)
IMO williams and leinart will be gone after this coming season. davis probably wouldnt see too much action at usc this season anyway. so unless he thinks booty will be good, then he should think harder

horse (Jan 16, 2004 2:22:02 PM)
how long do these last? My wife is getting upset I'm not being productive at work

daytonabuck (Jan 16, 2004 2:22:13 PM)

osufan101 (Jan 16, 2004 2:22:15 PM)

Buckeyefreak (Jan 16, 2004 2:23:56 PM)
Go Bucks! I hope we get stud recruits by signing day!

horse (Jan 16, 2004 2:24:05 PM)
That's what my wife thinks also

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 2:24:15 PM)
Bryant visited Pitt, Miami and Fla. Three pretty good schools. Maybe it's 25 percent.

SmellyCat (Jan 16, 2004 2:24:33 PM)
We are the best close school

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 2:24:36 PM)
And you do a great job with it Susan!!

birdiemosh (Jan 16, 2004 2:24:36 PM)
just as long as those other 3 are 25% as well!

Susan (Jan 16, 2004 2:24:47 PM)
ha ha steve

rtfld23 (Jan 16, 2004 2:25:00 PM)
My apologies, is there anything new to report since yesterday regarding recruits?

SteveHelwagen (Jan 16, 2004 2:25:06 PM)
Thanks everybody for the kind words. We will see you ... when we see you, next week I guess.

tsteele316 (Jan 16, 2004 2:25:07 PM)
