Ohio State figures to be in the market for a quarterback in the 2005 recruiting class. One potential prospect who already has an affinity for Ohio State could be Gene Delle Donne of Wilmington (Del.) Salesianum.

Delle Donne (pronounced della-DON) threw for 1,700 yards with 15 touchdowns and four interceptions in nine games as a junior. He has started since his freshman year.

He told Bucknuts.com some of his favorite schools include Ohio State, Notre Dame, Maryland, N.C. State and Florida.

"If I had to say right now, Ohio State and Notre Dame are my top two schools," Delle Donne said. "I don't have any offers right now. They all said they liked what they saw on tape, but they would wait and make offers at their camp. The like to have you come to their camp so they can see you in person."

Delle Donne (6-5, 225, 4.81) is participating in basketball right now. He averages 15 points a game as his team's starting power forward. The team is 21-3 heading into a state championship game against Middletown (21-4) at 4 p.m. today at the University of Delaware's Bob Carpenter Center.

He discussed his plans for the spring and summer.

"I want to come out to Ohio State for the spring game," he said. "I will probably go to the Nike camp at Penn State in May. It's closer to where I live and it will give me more time after we finish basketball to get prepared for it.

"This summer, I want to go to Ohio State's camp and also camps at Notre Dame, N.C. State and Maryland.

"I've been telling a lot of people it would be nice to commit in the summertime. That way I can have a fun time with my senior year and just worry about winning games. We were 3-7 this past year. We have 17 returning starters so I think we can be pretty good."

Delle Donne talked about his talents as a quarterback.

"I would say I definitely have good size and good arm strength," he said. "I think my decision making is pretty good as well."

Delle Donne talked more about his college preferences.

"I love the Big Ten," he said. "I think I'm more of a Big Ten quarterback. I'm one of those big, pocket kind of guys."

About Ohio State, he said, "They are a powerhouse. They have been so good for so many years."

Delle Donne holds a 3.67 GPA and will take college entrance exams in May.
