RB/DB Cedric Tolbert of Xenia is rated as one of Ohio's top 20 prospects in the new edition of Ohio High. He is showing a strong interest in Ohio State, but he is unable to make it up to the Nike camp this weekend.
"I can't make it to Nike. I'm going to the prom that night," he said. "I will be up to the spring game though."
What schools is he most interested in now?
"I'm still getting tons of letters every day," he said. "Ohio State has been in touch. I really enjoyed Cincinnati's junior day... Me and my dad, we both like Indiana. It is close, and they've been in contact a lot... Illinois and Purdue have been making a lot of contact.
"I'm looking to stay in the region. I don't want to go too far away from home."
He'll also be looking to camp this summer at a few of those places.
"I will definitely be going to Ohio State's camp as well as Indiana and Purdue," he said. "I'm not sure about Illinois camp. I don't know if I'm going to be able to make it out there, but I'm going to try."
One of Cedric's teammates at Xenia, OL Ben Person, is getting ready to join the Buckeyes in the fall. Ben's been working hard, and Cedric has been finding out early just how different the regimen is from high school.
"Ben is doing great," Cedric said. "He's working out a lot. He's basically using Ohio State's weight program, and I'm working out with him.
"It is a lot different than high school. A lot more intense. A LOT more."
Cedric is also running track this spring.
"I'm running track, but we've been getting rained out a lot," he said. "I run the 100, but mostly I run the 200, 400, 4x4, and 4x1."
