"I think that four schools have been eliminated now," she said. "I know we wanted to talk to all schools involved in the process before we go any further."
Mrs. Hairston had participated in a meeting with Malik, her husband, and Malik's AAU coach, Speedy Walker for several hours this evening as the Hairstons tried to come to a final decision.
Aside from the absence of a firm choice, the Hairstons apparently are not ready to officially eliminate any schools from consideration until they are sure Malik will not attend that particular school.
"At this point, we want to make sure we know where Malik is going with this list," she said. "We still had not talked to one coach tonight, but we'll pick up where we left off tomorrow and decide if this is the route we're taking."
Earlier in the evening, Mrs. Hairston had told InsidersHoops.com writer Dave Telep that the list had been trimmed to three schools. Mrs. Hairston would not disclose the identity of any of the schools involved until an absolution had occurred and they have spoken with coaches from all six schools.
Hairston's list remains Kansas, Michigan, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon and UCLA.
Barring any unforeseen change of plans, Mrs. Hairston said that a final decision would probably conclude Monday from the remaining schools, but gave no guarantee that would definitely be the case.
