Hairston Eliminates OSU

Malik Hairston will not be playing college basketball at Ohio State. Hairston informed OSU head coach Jim O'Brien of his decision a short time ago.

It's not the news Ohio State fans wanted to hear, but at least there is closure. spoke with Elizabeth Hairston, mother of Malik, at 9:45 PM this evening and she confirmed Ohio State has been eliminated.

"Malik spoke with Coach O'Brien this evening," she said. "He told Coach that we've eliminated Ohio State. It was an extremely tough thing for him to do, because we've been so high on Ohio State and liked them so much for so long."

She said although he has made his decision, it still could change.

"I think he knows where he is going," Mrs. Hairston said. "But even now, he's still very confused. This has been tough on him."

Mrs. Hairston wanted to commend everyone at Ohio State for being so supportive.

"Everyone has been great," she said. "The coaches, the media calling us and being very respectful, we appreciate it."

The Buckeyes will now turn their attention to the class of 2005 completely.
