Columbus WR Starting To Get More Attention

James Gilmore of Columbus Mifflin received some high praise by at least one national analyst back in the wintertime, and he is now starting to see some of the bigger programs recruit him harder.

Columbus Mifflin WR James Gilmore has been listed among the state's top overall players. He is starting to get some of the attention he deserves.

"I'm getting mail from Notre Dame, Florida, Iowa, Michigan State, Ohio U," he said. "I'm taking my test on June 12th so that should help. I have a 3.3 GPA. I am thinking of taking summer school classes so I can get ahead."

Some of the bigger programs are starting to recruit him a little harder.

"West Virginia wanted me to come up but I had a meet that day," he said. "LSU has started sending me a lot of letters. West Virginia and Minnesota were in recently. Michigan State was in a couple weeks ago."

James had recently been busy running track, and he had a very good year considering that he was new at it.

"I made the regionals in the long jump," James said. "I jumped 21'1 and this is my first year ever running track.

"I also qualified for the 100 and the 4x4 in regionals. My best time was a 10.9 and I did it in the city meet. I was third there... I ran the first leg of the 4x4 and I ran a 51 flat."

What was his reaction to all this?

"I am really surprised, but then I am not really surprised because I worked so hard," he said.

Gilmore reported running a 4.47 40 at a combine in Cleveland, where he was also measured at 5-11, 175. He was rated as one of the top 75 overall players in the state in the spring issue of Ohio High.
