If there's one sure thing to come out of Ohio State's Senior Advanced Camp, it's news of new offers. Becoming just as common is unexpected players getting offers. This year's unexpected recipient of an offer is DE Lawrence Wilson of Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary.
"I just got offered by Ohio State tonight," Wilson said a short time ago. "I've been offered by Pitt, and I'm likely going to be offered by Penn State. That should happen any day."
Don't expect Wilson to jump at the offer immediately though. He definitely wants to take all five of his visits and does not have a timetable for his decision.
"I'm not sure about when to verbal," he said. "This is all hitting me at once it seems."
What will be some key factors in his decision?
"I want to play football and basketball," he said. "That's going to play a role in my decision. Pitt says I can play both.
"Academics will come first. Playing both is going to be important."
What in particular was so impressive about his camp performance?
"At camp, I was 6-6, 230, and ran a 4.6," he said. "I had a 36 1/2 inch vertical. They said it was a record."
Not much has been written about this player, possibly due in part to a change in coaches at his school, which often results in tape being difficult to obtain. Colleges are well aware of him though, and his sack numbers definitely tell the tale.
"Some say I had 15, some say I had 17," he said. "I don't know; you'd have to ask the coach."
Word of this player has also reached to some schools far outside of Ohio too.
"I get a few letters from the south," he said. "Vandy, Alabama, Florida. Georgia Tech has been in. I don't know if I'm going to get that far away from home though."
Wilson, who will play tight end next year as well, is not done taking trips this summer and will work on narrowing his college focus.
"I'm headed to Notre Dame on Tuesday," he said. "I want to narrow it down to about five schools in about the next month."
