Minnesota's Ashley Puts Cards On Table

Eden Prairie, Minn., defensive lineman Walker Ashley spoke with SuperPrep recruiting analyst Allen Wallace recently. He shared his feelings on where Ohio State stands early in the game. Click here for more.

Minnesota DT/DE Walker Ashley (6-5, 285, 4.85) says that if he had to go to school right now… he'd choose Ohio St (first to offer) over Minnesota (camp), USC (camp), Penn St (camp) and Miami. All have offered except Miami. Tennessee and Texas have also offered. Ohio St, Minnesota, USC and Penn St are recruiting him as a DE, while Miami wants Ashley as TE.

"I'd go to Ohio St right now because I know that they're the best in the Big Ten conference," says Ashley, of Eden Prairie. "I know they're a good team and I want to stay in the Big Ten and win some championships. Coach (Jim) Tressel has shown a lot of interest in me. He said I was the top DL prospect for them right now.

"Minnesota is my home team and it would be nice to stick around here at home and play for my family. The coaches there are very interested in me and have told me that I'm their top recruit and I was their best player at camp. Coach (Tom) Sims (DL) has done a great job at trying to recruit me.

"USC are co-national champs right now and I think Pete Carroll is the best coach in college football--they're going to have a good year. They've got good weather in southern California and USC has a really nice campus. Asst head coach (Ed) Orgeron (DL/rec coord) is hyper and intense and I like that, plus the coaches there are very interested in me and said I was the best DL at camp.

"My dad and grandpa both played at Penn State as LBs. I've gone up there every year since I was 12. Coach (Joe) Paterno shows great interest in me as a player. They're definitely becoming a powerhouse team again and I like how they came up with a big win against Akron last week.

"Miami wants me as a TE and they're waiting to see how I do in my first few games. They've been the most dominant team in college football for the past decade and are a good team year in and year out. I've been to the state of Florida before and it's a nice location. Coach Larry Coker is a good guy that I'd want to play for."

Walker will officially visit Ohio St (12/3), Minnesota (12/10), USC, Miami (if offered) and Tennessee.

One game (1-0) stats: 8 tackles/1 FC.
