EDITOR'S NOTE -- Here is a report from on the weekend official visit by Pompano Beach (Fla.) Ely offensive lineman Ronnie Wilson to Florida.

Ronnie Wilson and his family arrived early Saturday to begin his visit. "We were kinda tired so we slept a little bit, then we went to the stadium. I went to the hotel where the team was staying."

Wilson told us that he attended the spring game, but this was his first real game at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. What did he make of his first real game? "It was crazy. The fans and the crowd and the cheers. Weren't they voted the loudest stadium in the league?"

What was Ronnie's impression of the game? "I had a real good time because I'm being recruited by both teams and it wasn't like it was just a blow out. It was a real tight game all the way to the end. I was impressed by both teams."

How does Ronnie feel he would fit into the situation at UF as far as the scheme and playing time – would he feel like he could be an easy fit at UF? "Yeah, because we run some of the same exact plays, they just call them different names. We run a lot of the zone stuff."

Coach Miller is recruiting Wilson for the Gators and Ronnie was complimentary of the linebacker coach. "He's a good guy." Ronnie is also very aware of Coach Miller's excellent history as a coach and that he has some very famous pupils.

Wilson's host for the weekend was his former teammate Brandon Daniel. "We went to a couple of different parties. It was actually one of the football player's birthday." Whose birthday? "DeShawn, I think it was Wynn. I didn't get the last name. There were so many people there I didn't even get to meet him."

What does Ronnie think of the growing metropolis of Gainesville? "Yeah, I actually got family up there. Last night we went around and saw a lot of Gainesville. We left this morning. I got a chance to see what's all around. There's a lot of my family around there. They're actually in Live Oaks. Then I have some cousins that stay right there in Gainesville... and an aunt."

For the upcoming weekend Wilson is taking another visit from his official list and heading up to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to see Coach Walt Harris and the Pittsburgh Panthers. What does the lineman think of the Panthers before he trips to see them? "I know a little about the school, but I want to get up there and get around and see what things are like."

Wilson is a jovial character who is obviously enjoying the recruiting process a great deal. He is saying that he is still wide open, and is sticking with the same top five of Florida, Ohio State, N.C. State, Pittsburgh, and LSU. He visited N.C. State previously. Pittsburgh will be his third official visit, with Ohio State coming Nov. 19 for the OSU-Michigan game.

The 6-4, 335-pound Wilson is ranked as Florida's 26th-best prospect overall by He is also ranked as the nation's 18th-best offensive line prospect by He boasts a 360-pound bench press. He was a second-team all-state pick for Ely last year and is reportedly qualified academically.
