Hello everyone let's talk about Thee Game as well as anything about recruiting on your mind and I'll be glad to answer it if I can. I have a short session planned today because I have an important photo shoot this afternoon and then I'm off to Brookhaven vs. Uniontown Lake tonight. Tomorrow after the Big Game, I'm heading up 71N for the second half, hopefully of the Glenville-Iggy game. So please fire away early with your questions if you have any.

if tressel finishes next year like this one, will there be another coaching change at osu? young team or not remember this is ohio state.. short term memorys here in buckey land, earl bruce was fired, and i still cant figure that one out...
GaryHousteau (Nov 19, 2004 11:10:31 AM)
Hi osu egg...there won't be another season like this one for a couple of years at least. I believe in our young O-Line recruits and the new guys like Boone coming in and they will be an integral part of our success in the near future. There's way too much talent on this team and if we can put together a solid D-line to go around Pitcock...we'll be back strong after this season. JT couldn't be more secure here despite the Clarett allegations resurfacing again. I just wish he'd let someone else run the offense but that will never happen.
john iafolla (Nov 19, 2004 11:10:35 AM)
Gary, What do you think the outcome of the game will be> thanks John Iafolla
john iafolla (Nov 19, 2004 11:10:37 AM)
Gary, John Iafolla here. I have a feeling Michigan will beat OSU by 20 points. your thought
GaryHousteau (Nov 19, 2004 11:15:09 AM)
Hi Folla...my college buddy from Adrian Michigan crawls out from under the woodwork. Hope to see you at the game. Please email me now at email@example.com and give me your cell number. It's not shocking of your prediction since you're the biggest Michigan homer I know. But you were right big time last year I have to give it to you. I'm believing with my heart, not my head, that we have an emotional Tressel-type win but my head gives it to the school up north...21-15. Five Nugent field goals. Hope to see you tomorrow, no not really! Smile! Say hi to Julie for me.
GaryHousteau (Nov 19, 2004 11:15:11 AM)
Iafolla was a great linebacker at Adrian by the way.
spuds51 (Nov 19, 2004 11:15:26 AM)
Gary.........What do you think the MC BS will do to recruiting this year ? Have you talked to Gwaltney lately ? Has anything changed with him ?
GaryHousteau (Nov 19, 2004 11:18:16 AM)
Hi spuds51...I've talked to many recruits this week and last and I've discovered no backlash against Ohio State. In fact they're all defending OSU and coming down against Reecie. I talked to Gwaltney two weeks ago, just before the Reecie stuff hit the fan and the only thing that has changed then is that he's added a Michigan visit to his list. I'll be speaking with him this coming week for sure.
osu egg (Nov 19, 2004 11:18:23 AM)
also will zwick play sat. to get ready for the bowl game and be the starter for next year? sure hope so
GaryHousteau (Nov 19, 2004 11:22:07 AM)
I think barring injury to Smith or a blowout, we won't see Zwick step on the field in this one. I am expecting an all-out QB battle prior to the Bowl game. Becoming Bowl eligible was as important to Zwick as anyone on the team for the extended practice time. I don't believe we've seen the last of JZ yet at Ohio State but it's definitely an uphill battle now for him. He will have to flat-out earn his playing time in the future. I wouldn't write him off just yet. But I don't expect to see him play Saturday either even though I've been told he's healthy now.
rbuck (Nov 19, 2004 11:22:17 AM)
Hi Gary, Sorry I'm late, do you think Ringer gets an offer this weekend?
GaryHousteau (Nov 19, 2004 11:25:42 AM)
Hi rbuck...boy I sure hope so. He's my sentimental favorite now as far as hoping that he gets an offer by Ohio State. No one has told me yet that an offer is imminent but I'm hoping there is one to come shortly. If the grades are there this semester, I hope OSU does right by him be it tomorrow or sometime soon. I have been told Gwaltney and Wells are very high on the pecking order so OSU might just hold off a little while longer until they have feel for those two guys, but I say offer Ringer any way.
buckeyenole (Nov 19, 2004 11:25:50 AM)
Hi Gary. Thanks for coming on early today. SCREW BLUE!!!
buckmark (Nov 19, 2004 11:25:52 AM)
Gary, its on!! The great thing about this game this year is that for the Buckeyes there is nothing else to play for but a win. I think that will go a long way in providing all the motivation they need and the Bucks win 26-24. The key to the game will be a consistent urgency on both sides of the ball. I mean seriously with the way this season has gone there is nothing else to do but win this game!!!
GaryHousteau (Nov 19, 2004 11:30:34 AM)
Hi Buckmark...I hear you and I trust in guys like A.J. Hawk and Bobby Carpenter and Dustin Fox and Ashton Youboty and I trust in Mike Nugent and I trust in the home crowd and I trust in the atmosphere in Ohio Stadium and I trust in TGII to make a couple of big plays...but there's a lot that I don't trust in at this time as well to be honest with you. I'm going to pray a lot. Go Bucks.
spuds51 (Nov 19, 2004 11:30:44 AM)
Gary.......it looked like last week the D played better when they went to man coverage. Do you think we will see more of that or the soft zone we have seen so much of this year ?
GaryHousteau (Nov 19, 2004 11:34:52 AM)
Spuds I'm sure Edwards has been a main focus of the defense this week in their preparation and I would sure hope we man up more than normal and pressure Henne the freshman quarterback. He's still just a freshman right now and he's only going to get better and better. We have to play to win on defense and forget about this playing not to lose BS. Be it on offense or defense, we need to trust our own talent and play to win the game, instead of this play not to lose garbage. So throw the kitchen sink at Henne early and often and man up. I know it's not going to go down that way but I hope we do something different from the outset. We have nothing to lose and they have everything to lose. They won't play conservative I can tell you that much.
buckeyenole (Nov 19, 2004 11:34:58 AM)
What do you think about all the recent In-state kids that seem to be holding out for schollies? Do they have reason? Spitler, Lenix, Goatley, Long, etc? Does that mean we've cooled on some of the OOS LBs or are they looking likely to go elsewhere?
GaryHousteau (Nov 19, 2004 11:40:26 AM)
Hi buckeyenole..no offense here but let's not get all carried away with guys like Goatley and Spitler just yet. I hear you about Lenix and even Long because he's so big and versatile and the measureables are fantastic but I think we are in on some of these OOS talents at LB and that's why all these guys are kind of on hold right now. Lenix being the exception of that group. I think if he can up his ACT any time soon he would have his offer. Spitler and Goatley have to be considered fall back guys I would think until we hear from McCoy and Felder and others for sure. At least I hope that's the case because we do need to stock the LB position with quality depth because after next year it's wide open with Freeman being the lone quality guy in the mix right now.
redondo (Nov 19, 2004 11:40:34 AM)
Hi Gary - Maybe I missed it, but I found it odd that in the wake of the latest MoC pot-stirring no one (or very few) people of prominence from YSU (like the University President when Coach Treseel was there, for example) stepped forward as character references for Coach Tressel. Again, did I miss it and they really did step forward and speak out or, if they didn't, why do you think that's so? Thank you.
GaryHousteau (Nov 19, 2004 11:47:03 AM)
Hi redondo, very good question and my answer to that is no because there really is no need to speak out in his defense. When you consider the source, or sources, it looks like it's a rather sad and desperate move by Reecie and his people. And it pains me to acknowledge that. I was Reecie's biggest supporter for many years and can't believe it's gone down this way. He continues to get very poor advice from the people he's being counseled by. I've talked to important people here around Y-town that are connected to YSU and they all think it's a joke. Maybe I need to publicly interview a few them between now and the Bowl game...just a thought!
skeelo (Nov 19, 2004 11:47:18 AM)
gary what are your impressions of curtis smith. is his talent worthy of an offer?
GaryHousteau (Nov 19, 2004 11:52:47 AM)
Hi skeelo...I've seen Curtis Smith play a lot over the past two years and he makes plays. I think he takes a few plays off which hurts him but overall he's around the football and knocking people around. I think he can be a very good and mobile and agile interior lineman on defense at the next level. He's a physical specimen and a good athlete in his own right. He's throws the shot put successfully and he even plays some in the backfield on offense. I watched him score I think it was a 20-yard touchdown run this year against Cleveland South. I think he has to be very patient but I don't think in the end he gets an offer. I think he could play on the D-line here however.
101stSBCClassic (Nov 19, 2004 11:52:51 AM)
Gary, any *realistic* Michigan/OSU recruiting battles left this year? Or are we looking at Wells (and others) in 2005-06 already?
GaryHousteau (Nov 19, 2004 11:57:11 AM)
HI sbcclassic...your names just too long to retype...Maybe Gwaltney could be a battle between OSU and Michigan. I think Danny Herron, sophomore from Harding, could be an OSU-Michigan Issue in the future. His brother plays for MSU right now. Of course Chris Wells will be a colossal battle next year I'm sure. I'll see Wells today and see if he's attending the game tomorrow. Right now I give the slightest of edges to the school up north in the battle for Wells.
buckmark (Nov 19, 2004 11:57:37 AM)
Any new names coming into the recruiting picture? It seems that every year we see a few new names and offers in December and January.
GaryHousteau (Nov 19, 2004 12:00:18 PM)
I think Anderson Russell is one of the newer names that's likely to be a Buckeye and I know that Hodge the LB from Dilliard likes OSU and he's up here for a visit this weekend. But I haven't heard of any really new names yet. There's not a whole lot of spots left for many more new names to come into the picture. I'm sure Duane and Steve know more about the OOS kids than I do.
buckipilot (Nov 19, 2004 12:00:20 PM)
Hey all, I am sure this has been covered, but does Ohio State have any legal action they can take against Mo C. or ESPN for slander?
GaryHousteau (Nov 19, 2004 12:04:21 PM)
Hi buckipilot...I would think that Geiger and JT would just rather have all of this go away as fast as it possibly can. They are just reporting a story, albeit from one side. I've called it a witch hunt and I know it's been steered in this direction from the very beginning. I can honestly say that everything I was told a year or so and longer ago, has come to fruition. This has been in the works for a long time. It just isn't something new. They've been working on this since it initially happened and quite frankly I think they know it's backfired against them. Again, unless there was some other shoe to be dropped ESPN the mag has used as poor of judgment as Reecie's people have.
spuds51 (Nov 19, 2004 12:04:42 PM)
Gary........I know this would be a hard question for you to answer but how long do you see the investigation taking. I sure hope they are able to clear things up before signing day.
GaryHousteau (Nov 19, 2004 12:11:16 PM)
I would assume it will be completed ASAP for the good of everyone. I just know too many who know how JT leads his life and any of this would be so uncharacteristic of him that it's not even possible. He's as genuine as he's projected to be. I'm sure they truly welcome the investigation and hope that it's completed ASAP. I don't know if the NCAA is capable of clearing up everything fast enough prior to signing day though.
GaryHousteau (Nov 19, 2004 12:13:51 PM)
Thanks everyone for participating in the chat today. I have an important place to be this afternoon and then I start my football weekend. I'm taking Alex Daniels and Brookhaven tonight to beat a very good Lake team who's from the Federal League. Tomorrow night I'm going with the other city league team out of Cleveland over St. Iggys. I think Glenville is better than they were last year and Iggy isn't as good as they were last year and the Tarblooders almost won that game. Scream loud for the Buckeyes tomorrow. I'd love to ruin Michigan's season. Go Bucks!
