Chat Transcript - Gary Housteau

We have a transcript from today's club chat with Gary Housteau now posted.

GaryHousteau (Dec 30, 2004 1:08:08 PM)
Hi everyone. I think we're all set. So fire away if you have any questions or thoughts.

bobeyes (Dec 30, 2004 1:10:05 PM)
Gary - will the ESPN hatchet job actually hurt our recruiting in your opinion?

GaryHousteau (Dec 30, 2004 1:10:05 PM)
Hi Bobyes...I spoke with Rico McCoy and Doug Worthington already this morning and they aren't effected by the negative reporting. Worthington is not a soft verbal to Ohio State by any means...he's completely committed so end the soft verbal stuff now. He just told me that. McCoy hasn't decided yet but he liked the defense no doubt.

diddy (Dec 30, 2004 1:11:03 PM)
great victory for the bucks, but all the bad news really put a damper on the night

GaryHousteau (Dec 30, 2004 1:11:03 PM)
Hi diddy...ESPN was relentless on us in the second quarter and the rest of the game. It was brutal. Enough already.

33-7 (Dec 30, 2004 1:12:44 PM)
Do you think we are going to get hammered with these allegation and lose our NChamp.

GaryHousteau (Dec 30, 2004 1:12:44 PM)
Hi 33-7. No were not going to get hammered. The coaches need to communicate with the recruits in a big way but we all know it's not nearly as dire a situation as ESPN made it look to be. It's shameful what they did last night.

Jim C (Dec 30, 2004 1:15:51 PM)
Zwick looked pretty good. Will we have a quarterback battle-royale in the Spring?

GaryHousteau (Dec 30, 2004 1:15:51 PM)
Hi Jim C. It's quite obvious that Justin Zwick acquitted himself quite well to all of the non-believers of his. He showed just how capable he is, while injured, with all the talent he had at his disposal last night. And with a seemingly improved offensive line in front of him. In my eyes, Zwick proved that he is the better quarterback. Troy Smith is a great talent no doubt but Zwick is the better signal caller. I thought he performed more than admirably last night. He did great.

bucksfan47 (Dec 30, 2004 1:18:17 PM)
Gary, thank you for all the good you have brought to the board this past year! I wish you and yours a very blessed, and happy New Year! Who is your Q.B. heading into the spring? I hope Smith can get this crap behind him, and continue to be the leader that I believe he can be going forward!

GaryHousteau (Dec 30, 2004 1:18:17 PM)
Hi bucksfan47 and thank you for your kind words and Happy Holidays to you and yours as well. This isn't easy for me to say because you all know I have close ties to Glenville and TG Sr. and I like Troy Smith a lot, but my quarterback going into next season, my field general and signal caller, is Justin Zwick. And wait till you watch him run into guys on the quarterback draw when he is healthy. No question, Zwick gets the nod.

bobby (Dec 30, 2004 1:20:02 PM)
isn't it ironic that we play one of our best games on offense and defense and all espn can seem to do is pile on the negative crap

GaryHousteau (Dec 30, 2004 1:20:02 PM)
Hi bobby, but the more important this is that we did play one of our best games on offense and defense and Nugent set a great OSU record and we proved to everyone that we will be a team to contend with next year. I'm soooooo looking forward to next season. Forget the old ESPN garbage. Go Bucks! Can you san National Champs 2005. Let's expect it not hope for it.

mjw1200 (Dec 30, 2004 1:22:56 PM)
Have you had a chance to talk to any offensive recruits on their opinions of our performance last night? two great offensive performances in a row has to help some i would think? with maybe like carlos thomas or mo wells?

GaryHousteau (Dec 30, 2004 1:22:56 PM)
Hi mjw1200...I only spoke with two recruits this morning and they're both defensive guys, McCoy and Worthington. I'm sure that the offensive guys will have great things to say and I'll try to speak to a few through the course of the day today if I can catch up to any. But again the potential of this offense, into the future, is scary. And TGII is as good as anyone in the country. And wait till you see him play on defense. He will be just as dominant on that side of the ball as is on offense and special teams.

bobeyes (Dec 30, 2004 1:25:54 PM)
How about that gang tacklin last night? Can Mel Tucker realy coach or what?

GaryHousteau (Dec 30, 2004 1:25:54 PM)
Hi bobeyes, the defensive effort was outstanding. They wanted to take their running game away from the outset and make them beat us through the air and we executed the game plan to a tee. Fantastic coaching effort from Snyder and Tucker. Our talent was just too much for them. How about Pitcock last night. And Fraser. And Carptenter. And Hawk. And Whitner. And Everett. And Youboty. And Fox. And Kudla. All of those guys stood out in a big way at one time or another during the game. And we only lose two starters on defense. You got to love it.

wells20 (Dec 30, 2004 1:28:16 PM)
Gary, Your opinions on the ESPN crew and studio bums who couldn't find anything better to say since than the problems since the Bucks just dominated.

GaryHousteau (Dec 30, 2004 1:28:16 PM)
Hi wells was just brutal and a bit overdone. They have more than an axe to grind and I can't understand it for the life of me. Troy Smith's debacle gave them the opportunity to dredge everything back up and they did. Again to say that JT's job is in jeopardy is so funny that it's not even funny! Are you kidding me! He's going nowhere. It was sad how they went on and on. But we continue to give them ammo.

osufan25 (Dec 30, 2004 1:34:01 PM)
Hi gary! After O'neal, who is the next big stud to come out of glenville next year?

GaryHousteau (Dec 30, 2004 1:34:01 PM)
Hi osufan25...the next bigtimer will be Raymond Small who will likely be a slot-type receiver/runningback next year at Glenville. Great quickness and instincts. And it's Small not Smalls. I always would remind people it's Lenix and not Lennix so I will say it Ray Small not Smalls. He's a good one. Rob Rose will be a player as well and will Bryant Browning.

NoBigBiggy (Dec 30, 2004 1:36:21 PM)
Hey Gary, How many commits do we get during the army game, and who in your opinion? Go Bucks!

GaryHousteau (Dec 30, 2004 1:36:21 PM)
Hi NoBigBiggy...I think we get Wells and McCoy at the Army game. I will get there on Friday afternoon and will try to get caught up to speed as soon as I can and report back to every one. I'd like to see Doering have a sudden interest in us but I don't see that happening. And maybe James McKinney could be involved as well. But I'll say Wells and McCoy. Forget about Gwaltney much as I love him he's a Trojan.

DuckOfDeath (Dec 30, 2004 1:40:07 PM)
Hello Gary. I loved the aggressive schemes on O and D right up until the end. I thought the playcalling was great again too. Can't help but wonder if Herbie razzing the O made Tressel a little more imaginative and less conservative. What are your thoughts?

GaryHousteau (Dec 30, 2004 1:40:07 PM)
Hi DuckofDeath...I think the entire nation criticizing our offense may have had some cumulative effect. With all the talent JT has at his disposal, it's a shame that he wasted it by not using it for so much of the season. And there is more in the pipeline. I firmly believe that Devon Lyons will be big time. Rory Nicol will be a big timer as we can all see. And eventually our running game will kick in with a solid line in the next coming years to lead the way. Depth and all. I just hope JT doesn't get complacent with his running game again when it starts clicking. Zwick ran this type of offense in high school and his experience of 10,000 plus yards showed last night when he was at the controls. I'm really happy for him.

Guest (Dec 30, 2004 1:42:23 PM)
Gary - Do you think Wanstedt will be able to pull recruits out of Ohio?

GaryHousteau (Dec 30, 2004 1:42:23 PM)
Hi bobeyes...I would have been more afraid if Matt Cavanaugh would have got that job because he's from Y-town. No I'm not worried about Pittsburgh at all. They're a second-tier school as is West Virginia, and will continue to be. Tyler Palko is a gifted football player though I will admit. I don't see Pittsburgh as a recruiting threat at all, with or without Wannstedt.

Guest (Dec 30, 2004 1:46:23 PM)
Okay...enough of the bad Teddy run!!!! Wow, we looked like that team that could make a serious run next year! Go Bucks!!!

GaryHousteau (Dec 30, 2004 1:46:23 PM)
I've seen Teddy do remarkable things in high school in both football and track and he performs on every stage without exception. We are watching a "chosen one." He dominated track and football last year and will continue to do so at this level and even beyond. I'm so glad he's a Buckeye and I'm really happy that I've had such a great and intimate seat, over the past few years, watching his career unfold. He's a fine young man who is never happy with what he's accomplished. There's always more ahead. Him and his dad say that all the time...and they mean it. He's truly special.

mjw1200 (Dec 30, 2004 1:47:30 PM)
Gary, did you catch the college gameday with may and alberts on before the UTEP and COL. game? It was a full twenty minutes of buckeye bashing and nothing about the games. Our they making a bigger deal out of this than it is?

GaryHousteau (Dec 30, 2004 1:47:30 PM)
No mjw1200...and I'm glad that I didn't. It's being blown way out of proportion but again, we keep giving them ammo.

Guest (Dec 30, 2004 1:49:55 PM)
maybe the big ten should rethink it's television there anything we can do to help stem the one sided negative reporting

GaryHousteau (Dec 30, 2004 1:49:55 PM)
Hi bobby .... the Big Ten doesn't need to take any drastic action. I'm sure that ESPN will hear from Ohio State and the Big Ten about the hatchet job they did on us but we need television and ABC and ESPN is a part of that. It will all blow over in time. And as we win a couple more national won't matter to us what they think.

osufan25 (Dec 30, 2004 1:57:48 PM)
Gary, There has been so much talk about Chris Wells for next year. After him, what running backs are out there? Oh, and who are your top five underclassmen in Ohio regardless of class? Thanks!

GaryHousteau (Dec 30, 2004 1:57:48 PM)
Hi osufan25... top running backs to consider for next year in addition to Chris Wells would be Anthony Elzy from Warren JFK, Royce Adams of St. Ed's, Lance Smith of Howland, Jamal Brown of Benedictine, Huddleston of Benedictine, Carter of Copley, Miller of Tallmadge are a few. Nate Burney of Mooney is someone to watch for. Top players overall...again most from the north are Hartline, Nate Davis, Schlichter, Kirbus, Parris, Small, Rose, Gibson of Euclid, Homan of Coldwater, John Ryan - Iggy, Darrell Jackson of Mooney, Marrown of Mooney, John Dunn of Benedictine. Alex Seeigerwald K of Benedictine. Jerome Jones of Ursuline and Joe Underwood of Ursuline. and the list goes on....Ryan Palmer of GlenOak.. Brown of Princeton...on and on...

Guest (Dec 30, 2004 2:03:32 PM)
I respect your opinion GH, but I dont see how Zwick has proven anything yet. Any chance Boekman gets the nod next year>

GaryHousteau (Dec 30, 2004 2:03:32 PM)
Hi... I see some good potential in Boeckman but I'm in the minority about him being someone as I see as the second-coming in any way. Obviously he's gifted and I'll reserve my judgment on him until I see more of him but he didn't overly excite in the limited amount of time I saw him perform last year. And he played quite a bit in the preseason. I think Zwick is a competitor first and foremost and he has some savvy to him. He needs to work on his deep ball and his mechanics but I played against Bernie Kosar in high school and am a Browns fan and you can be a good QB without great mechanics. Again...let the competition begin...I happen to think Zwick proved quite a lot last night. And he's also thrown for 300 plus yards in a game already...some sophomore record he already he's proven something. And he's as big as a freaking about that monster block...he led with his left shoulder!

mjw1200 (Dec 30, 2004 2:05:42 PM)
They mentioned boeckman will be in the quarterback battle last night on the game coverage, do you see that happening?

GaryHousteau (Dec 30, 2004 2:05:43 PM)
JT always says you need two QB to win champions and we have that in JZ and TS. How they handle it is the important thing as far as the team is concerned. We can with either of them at the helm. Having a pair and a spare is luxury that JT likes to have and I think Boeckman will only be that spare until he gets his chance in 2007.

Guest (Dec 30, 2004 2:09:16 PM)
Did Freddie Lenix commit to Ohio State

GaryHousteau (Dec 30, 2004 2:09:16 PM)
Hi wghraider...I really don't know if he officially has or not but I know Freddie as well or better than anyone out there and I already have him in my commitment column. I think they want to enjoy their visit on Jan. 7 and then he will commit officially shortly after. But he's a Buckeye. He will be Clearinghouse eligible for sure but I'm sure OSU would like him to improve on his test score a couple of points. Yeah...he's waited for this offer to come and now that he has's a certainty. They do like him as a potential RB though but he could play safety or even LB as well.

Guest (Dec 30, 2004 2:11:37 PM)
Gary - sorry if this has been asked already but what r u hearing about Fred Davis ??

GaryHousteau (Dec 30, 2004 2:11:37 PM)
Hi ODOGG45...I'm hearing from a USC source that I happen to have a connection with, that it's not a good situtation for Davis out there right now. I need to speak with Coach Rios this week to see if he can shed any further light on the situation. I don't want to speculate any further on Davis right now.

BuckeyeDave (Dec 30, 2004 2:18:09 PM)
Who was that at TB and what did they do with Lydell Ross? (smile) Why didn't Coach Tressel play Pittman? To showcase seniors one last time? Good to see Schnittker catch a pass. How many different receivers caught passes last night? Great catch by Gonzo!

GaryHousteau (Dec 30, 2004 2:18:09 PM)
Good group of questions and comments there BuckeyeDave...I saw Ross actually bounce it outside instead of running into the blockers in front of him and it was a good thing. I was happy for Ross and was hoping he could have got 100 yards in the game. He played well. Good for him. JT is and always will be senior loyal and that's one of the things that make his teams so successful. Leadership. We have a ton of leaders next year. I would have liked to have seen Pittman get a few more reps than he did but now Pittman and Haw should have a great chance to assume the number 1 spot this spring. I like both guys a lot and they have different styles. It's Pittman's job going into spring. Schnittker catching a pass was a good thing and I too was happy with the number of different receivers Zwick used in the game. That in itself is the biggest difference between Zwick and Smith. And a great catch by Gonzolez is correct. A big catch even though it wasn't a pretty pass but Gonzo did what he was suppose to do...catch a catchable ball.

Guest (Dec 30, 2004 2:21:31 PM)
Gary, Since ESPin has decided to devote their entire network to bashing to Buckeyes yesterday and today, I can't help but think their are some parents of recruits sitting in their living room listening to what is being said. For the first time, I'm starting to think this may have an effect. It's shocking to see how much ESPin is giving this, but let's face it, they have a pretty big platform. What are your thoughts? Thanks.

GaryHousteau (Dec 30, 2004 2:21:31 PM)
Hi IhateESPN... I think most of the recruits we're still in on know the drill already. I'm sure they would like a call from the coaches as soon as they're able to call them after the quiet period ends...but I think the players can initiate a call to the coaches any time if they have a concern. I don't know that for certain but I think that's the way it is. Sure the recruits are aware of some of the allegations, the Smith information might be new to them, but I think the OSU coaches will handle it well. I'm not worried and I haven't been from talking with most of the guys over the past month or so.

Guest (Dec 30, 2004 2:25:12 PM)
Who will the startin WR's be going into next year? Does Hall get moved to TE?

GaryHousteau (Dec 30, 2004 2:25:13 PM)
Hi JimC...I think Holmes, Lyons, Gonzo and Ginn will be the top four in no certain order. Holmes and Lyons more as the split ends and Gonzo and Ginn as the slot guys. Hall needs to have a great spring and I don't see him making the move to TE. It might be in his best interest to possibly consider it but I don't see him interested in allowing himself to move there. He is a wide receiver in his mind. And he has made some plays. So I still have him in the mix on the outside. I also hope Devin Jordan can be in the mix somewhere. And Dukes future is uncertain at this time but he should be in the mix as well.

FrontlineBuck (Dec 30, 2004 2:28:57 PM)
Hey Gary, There is a thread on the recruiting board stating that Freddie Lenix is a Buckeye. Do you have any info to support this statement?

GaryHousteau (Dec 30, 2004 2:28:57 PM)
Hi frontlinebuck...I have no idea if he officially has become a Buckeye yet but I already have him committed to OSU based on my personal conversations with him and my knowledge from being around the Glenville program. I don't know if it's official. I talked to TG Sr. about a half hour before the game last night..I talk to him before every Buckeye game...and he was calm and excited and he expected his son to do well. But we didn't talk about Lenix at all. TG Sr. got a lot of airtime last night. I got his recording on his cell phone when I called him this morning so I'll speak with him later.

Guest (Dec 30, 2004 2:34:32 PM)
Gary, you have been a firm believer for awhile that Mccoy, and wells are done deal to OSU. Do you feel the same way today, as you have? Steve eluded to the fact that Gwaltney, and Wells have been in contact, any info you know of about the conversation? Thanks again! Go Bucks!

GaryHousteau (Dec 30, 2004 2:34:32 PM)
Hi bucksfan...I firmly believe that Wells is Ohio State and I have good reason to believe that. I feel really good about McCoy...I felt better earlier in the year with him...but I still think everything points to OSU including some of what we talked about today. He talks, at times, like he's already on Ohio State's defense. I think OSU feels pretty good about him as well. I don't know if they feel the same way about him as they do with Wells...but I know they feel good about him. Based on my conversations with Gwaltney...I see him going to USC and I have no knowledge of him and Wells communicating. To the best of my knowledge, he's not in the loop with these other recruits so I would be surprised if that was true. I will ask him for sure the next time I speak with him or Wells. Gwaltney seems to be headed to SC no question and I've been told that from someone on the other end about him as well.

BuckeyeDave (Dec 30, 2004 2:36:00 PM)
Ok, so how do we get Rose Bowl tickets?

GaryHousteau (Dec 30, 2004 2:36:00 PM)
Wouldn't that be the best place to win a National Championship next year BuckeyeDave? Note to Steve...I'm clearing my schedule ahead of time for the Rose Bowl next! We should expect it and not hope for it. Go Bucks!

Guest (Dec 30, 2004 2:38:38 PM)
I have heard rumblings all year that sounds like if Beakman was in the same class year, he might well be the chosen one. Is this a case of the grass is always greener, or do you think he might compete for playing time next year?

GaryHousteau (Dec 30, 2004 2:38:38 PM)
Hi BuckeyeJoe...I really haven't seen enough of Boeckman to know either way for sure. I know the expectations of him are high, for one reason or another, and that's good but, IMOH, I don't see him challenging for the top spot next year.

Guest (Dec 30, 2004 2:39:50 PM)
Do you think Ohio State will win the National Championship next year

GaryHousteau (Dec 30, 2004 2:39:50 PM)
Sure...why not! I like our schedule and we get to go into Michigan and smack them around again to win the Big Ten outright. We're the best team returning by a far margin.

DuckOfDeath (Dec 30, 2004 2:42:59 PM)
Gary, are you old enough to have seen Johnny Rodgers play? Ted Ginn 2 is basically a clone of him. I feel he is just too dangerous with the ball in his hands to ever risk him on D. What say you?

GaryHousteau (Dec 30, 2004 2:42:59 PM)
I can vaguely remember Johnny Rodgers and Greg Pruitt going at years ago and I loved Pruitt witht he Browns so I know a little about Rodgers. But as I was telling the guys I watched the game with last night...Keep in mind that Ginn was the best football player and track player in the country last year. And he wasn't a track star playing football or a football player who happened to be good in track...he was the best at both sports and he's been that way coming up the ranks. He's really special. And he'll never get complacent. It's not in his vocabulary!

Guest (Dec 30, 2004 2:46:23 PM)
hey gary- whats up with the Zwick signal calling comments. a few short weeks ago we were all singing the praises of Troy Smith. while I was excited by the overal performance of the offense as a whole I personally saw nothing in Zwick to get excited about. He underthrew Ginn twice on long balls and Gonzalez made a nice grab of a poorly thrown ball on the td. sounds to me like we're preparing everyone for a Troyless team

GaryHousteau (Dec 30, 2004 2:46:23 PM)
Hi bobby...I've already acknowledged that he needs work on the long ball...but Zwick won the battle coming out of the spring and played with an anemic offense in the first half of the year. If you didn't see the poise and savvy and toughness that I saw in Zwick last night...then you and I didn't see the same game. I saw a lot to get excited in Zwick yesterday. I'm not throwing Smith under the bus in any way. He's very talented but they're clearly two different quarterbacks. Let it play out in the spring.

bucks4fun (Dec 30, 2004 2:47:50 PM)
I see where Mack Brown got a 10 year/25million contract from Texas. Am I missing something here. The guy has never won a conference championship anywhere and he cant beat OU. We sure are lucky to have JT

GaryHousteau (Dec 30, 2004 2:47:50 PM)
Hi bucks4fun...I think after they play Michigan they might be questioning that contract extension big time. I think the Big 12 is highly overrated! Yes we are lucky to have JT no matter what the national media thinks.

scribeohio (Dec 30, 2004 2:49:51 PM)
Gary, is OSU interested in a Youngstown QB (sorry don't know the name)?

GaryHousteau (Dec 30, 2004 2:49:51 PM)
Hi scribeOhio...Kyle McCarthy is his name from Cardinal Mooney and it wouldn't be as a quarterback. I just don't see there being any room in the class although I believe he is a tremendous talent and will play bigtime college ball somewhere in the future. He reminds me of Dustin Fox but even more of an offensive weapon in high school than Fox was. McCarthy is a great athlete and could be a Tony Gonzalez type at the next level.

33-7 (Dec 30, 2004 2:50:23 PM)
Do you thinks TG is the fastest player in Cfb

GaryHousteau (Dec 30, 2004 2:50:23 PM)
About TGII, It sure looks that way doesn't it.

bucks4fun (Dec 30, 2004 2:51:38 PM)
Any hints of juniors coming out for the draft?

GaryHousteau (Dec 30, 2004 2:51:38 PM)
I would be very surprised if Holmes would come out early and I don't expect Hawk to come out at all as he has stated pretty much. So no.

Guest (Dec 30, 2004 2:54:16 PM)
I worry a little they we are creating the Teddy Ginn Show! I would have thought that other receivers might have been open last night as we seemed to try to put it in his hands 75% of the time. If we put too much in one basket and he gets hurt, we'll be in trouble. That said, WOW, what a show!

GaryHousteau (Dec 30, 2004 2:54:16 PM)
As Steve and I say...It's just Teddy being Teddy! His talent speaks for itself. Wait until he plays on defense. He's a humble Deion Sanders. He will naturally gravitate toward defense but he will continue to come in and make big plays on offense. I promise you Ginn will be a tremendous talent on defense as well...sooner rather than later.

daytonbuckeye (Dec 30, 2004 2:56:57 PM)
Watching the Buckeyes through the course of the season has been one of highs and lows! Its really exciting to see how the team has jelled and how the offensive line gave Zwick plenty of time. Maybe a weird question, but in your opinion do you think the injury to Zwick last night settle his feet down? In watching prior games he always seemed to have happy feet. Last night he didn't move his feet as much. Also, does this make Tressle's job tougher next season in deciding who the QB will be?

GaryHousteau (Dec 30, 2004 2:56:57 PM)
Hi Daytonbuckeye...I think Zwick went into the game to help the team win and in doing so he made a great case for himself to be the quarterback next season. He was mentally sharp no question! He ran the offense to perfection although mainly in the short passing game. He needs work but the duel is on and I frankly think Zwick did a lot toward establishing him as the starter next year.

Guest (Dec 30, 2004 3:00:46 PM)
Gary, since you didn't think JT could or would change his offense around to utilize his personnel, what do you think of the playcalling over the past few games?

GaryHousteau (Dec 30, 2004 3:00:46 PM)
Hi Goingtomissnuge...I couldn't be happier with the way the offense has looked at the end of the season. Fantastic and I hope it remains that way. Last night was as good of an overall performance I've every witnessed under JT in all my years covering him. Fullback, TE, everyone in the act. Spreading the ball around. And Zwick will be able to run out of the spread with success when he's healthy. Not as good as Smith obviously but effective...and he'll hurt would be tacklers. I love the momentum we bring into next year.

Guest (Dec 30, 2004 3:01:38 PM)
Did we really play lights out? or was the other OSU just extremely flat? They didn't semm to have any fire at any point in the game. Not far into the 3rd they had almost rolled over.

GaryHousteau (Dec 30, 2004 3:01:38 PM)
I was just happy we did what we did! I think we made Okie Stat look flat from the first series of the game on...

Guest (Dec 30, 2004 3:02:30 PM)
I love quarterback crack back blocks, and Justin Zwick standing over big number 97 was a great scene, Don't you think it says a lot about his character that he is limping around and still blows up a D-Lineman?

GaryHousteau (Dec 30, 2004 3:02:30 PM)
That kind of touchness by Zwick really can't be quantified. It's an intangible that earns respect from his peers.

Guest (Dec 30, 2004 3:03:06 PM)
Gary, Did we officialy land Lenix?? Thanks!

GaryHousteau (Dec 30, 2004 3:03:06 PM)
I don't know if we have officially landed Lenix or not but between you and me....he's already a Buckeye.

Kdog (Dec 30, 2004 3:07:29 PM)
Gary, with recruiting slowing down now I find my need for a fix is great. Give me all you got.

Hi Kdog...word..first of all,Worthington is not a soft verbal ...very firm...I think we have Wells and Lenix, I also think we have McCoy but I'm 100 percent on that, I think we have a real good shot at Walker Ashley, I feel good about Lawrence Wilson and I will speak to him again soon. I can't figure out Daniels at all but I think he wants to be a star in Columbus and he stays home...can't see him going to Minnesota in any way...not his personality. Don't have anything to offer on Thomas. No shot at Gwaltney. That's about it now.

Gary, wow, I was blown away by last night. Question for you, do you think any piece of continuing to attack Okie State in the 4th quarter while up 30-0 had to do with Tressel being frustrated with the negative stuff going on around the program?? Have you ever seen Tressel do something similar at YSU?

GaryHousteau (Dec 30, 2004 3:09:24 PM)
No Seabus ... JT is always class on the field and treats the opponent that way..always. It was just within the flow of the game.

Guys...the questions continue to come and I wanted to try to answer everyone but there are just too many. I appreciate your questions and your interest in this chat very much. But I have to start cutting it off now... so please stop sending the questions and I'll try to get to a few more before I end it. Thanks again. I appreciate your questions. Go Bucks!

Gary, L Wilson seems to keep looking for that 'special' school (ND was the original). Do you think JT can get into him like Willingham did?

GaryHousteau (Dec 30, 2004 3:13:18 PM)
Hi the guess is Wilson is Buckeye because of Jim Tressel. It makes sense.

daytonbuckeye (Dec 30, 2004 3:14:47 PM)
Do you see Teddy as a two way player starting out next year?

GaryHousteau (Dec 30, 2004 3:14:47 PM)
daytonbuckeye...I ultimately see Teddy being a star at cornerback for two is because he's an awesome talent and he and Youboty will give us the best corners in the country next year...and two...because Ginn this day...believes he is a corner in his own mind.

daytonbuckeye (Dec 30, 2004 3:15:54 PM)
Okie State almost beat a great Oklahoma team just a couple of months ago. OState goes out there and destroys Okie State in ever way possible. What does this mean for Oklahoma? Are they not as good as everyone thinks or did OSTATE just become that much better at the end of the season?

GaryHousteau (Dec 30, 2004 3:15:54 PM)
OSU played great against Oklahoma ... I think it means the Big 12 is overrated.

osufan25 (Dec 30, 2004 3:18:23 PM)
Gary, who do you think will win Div I next year in ohio?

GaryHousteau (Dec 30, 2004 3:18:23 PM)
St. Ignatius is an early favorite...shocking!

osufan25 (Dec 30, 2004 3:19:47 PM)
Gary, what's the latest news on Devon Torrence? Is he gonna end up being a baseball guy or football?

GaryHousteau (Dec 30, 2004 3:19:47 PM)
Have yet to see him play but I've heard great things about him from people on this site and from others as well. I will try to learn more about him over the next two years.

BuckeyeBK (Dec 30, 2004 3:20:14 PM)
Gary.. dare I ask.. ... do you think there is any chance that Fred Davis wants to come home to OSU? WOuld we take him?

GaryHousteau (Dec 30, 2004 3:20:14 PM)
I doubt it and I doubt it....

Sorry I'm late. I'm sure a variation on this question has been asked, but I'll throw it out anyway: Can you offer a GUESS as to what type of NCAA penalty OSU will receive as a result of this whole mess? Just your best guess. I'm really worried now that Geiger's tone has changed from strident ("colossal failure" comment, Clarett is a liar, etc.) to almost apologetic (hinted at early retirement, admitted guilt, said some Clarett's stuff was true). It seems Geiger's posture has taken a 180-degree turn, and this, to me, is very ominous. A month ago he said, "There is no lack of institutional control." Last night on ESPN he said, "There is no lack of institutional control ... but that's based on what I know today." That's a HUGE difference ...

GaryHousteau (Dec 30, 2004 3:21:38 PM)
No type of probation of guess...unless we find out more.

BuckeyeBK (Dec 30, 2004 3:24:33 PM)
Hey Gary!!, great work you do...sorry if this was already asked.. do you think Tressel isn't being enough of a hard-#$$ and that is why these kids are not getting the message? Also, any updates on Wilson?

GaryHousteau (Dec 30, 2004 3:24:33 PM)
Thanks BuckeyeBK...JT is who he is...he's a father figure to many of these kids and he believes in helping a troubled kid instead of getting rid of him. From all of the people that I know who know JT very well...and I know many...he is a wonderful person and human being, period. Nothing new on Wilson to report...sorry.

Gary ... two big improvements last night. Both Joe and Ross ran hard, but they're both done. The other improvement was the O-Line (finally). Who runs the ball next year? Wouldn't Gwaltney be a great replacement for Joe?

GaryHousteau (Dec 30, 2004 3:25:54 PM)
Hi osubuckiii...I like Pittman and Haw next year and look forward to their battle this spring. I think the O-line will be much improved next season and should be a strength of this very talented team. No shot at Gwaltney from what I can tell.

Guest (Dec 30, 2004 3:26:54 PM)
Should Geiger tell Gameday that they can't come for the Texas game or would that just be making things worse?

GaryHousteau (Dec 30, 2004 3:26:54 PM)
Hi Dirkmatt...Hey ESPN Gameday...come on down. This will all be past tense next year...let's hope! Go Bucks!

GaryHousteau (Dec 30, 2004 3:29:55 PM)
Thanks again for the's been a blast. I'm heading down to San Antonio in two weeks and I'm so very excited for the opportunity. Have a wonderful, and happy and healthy New Year... I hope 2005 is the best year of your life! Go Bucks...2005 national champions! It's no big biggee!
