Walker Receives Ohio State Interest

The Buckeye coaching staff has been looking in the state of Illinois for hoops talent, and one player looking back at OSU is Will Walker of Bolingbrook. Kyle Lamb caught up with Walker to learn more.

Being one of the top players in the state of Illinois for the class of 2006, it's not surprising that Will Walker is receiving interest from several of the top programs in the country. For Walker, Ohio State is the latest to be interested.

"I didn't know about them (Ohio State) until after they came to my game recently," Walker said Thursday night. "My AAU coach had told me they were going to be at the game, and after the game they came to see me and I had found out they had offered like two months ago. My AAU coach had not told me that, but I don't know what happened there. Anyways, they are interested in me."

In fact, the 6-0 point guard from Bolingbrook, IL says like Ohio State, anyone showing interest he's staying open-minded enough to look at right now.

"I have interest in everyone right now," he added. "If people are interested in me, I'm interested in looking at them back."

Bolingbrook is currently 13-2 on the season with the former guard who transferred from Romeoville.

Walker was a teammate on the powerful Illinois Wolves AAU team with another Ohio State recruit—Devan Bawinkle. Like Bawinkle, the interest has really picked up recently for Walker.

"Georgia Tech has been recruiting me hard, Illinois has been recruiting me hard, Baylor, Texas is recruiting me, Marquette has offered, Oklahoma State has been recruiting me, Michigan State, N.C. State, Northwestern, Michigan, Iowa, there's been a lot of schools lately," Walker said when asked of what schools he has heard from.

"I am just going to keep looking to see what schools have to offer. Everything else is going good right now," he added.

Through 15 games, Walker is averaging 17.5 points and 3.9 rebounds a game.

There are a few things Walker wants to improve on. Especially continuing to work on passing the ball.

"I've been doing good personally, but the coaches say I need to get people involved on the floor more often, so that's what I've been working on," Walker said.

With the interest from Ohio State, what does Walker know about the Buckeyes so far to say what he thinks of them?

"I don't know too much about them, honestly," Walker explained. "They have been writing me a lot saying they are really interested in me, but I still don't know too much about them. I used to like them a lot when Michael Redd was there."

And what team, if any, did Walker grow up watching?

"I used to like North Carolina a lot," Walker replied. "I did like Ohio State though too, like I said, when they had Michael Redd. They were cool to watch."

Walker still plans to take some official visits once the season is over with. But, for now, he isn't able to take any officials because he still has not taken any tests.

He did take one unofficial visit to Illinois for the Wake Forest game, but that's been it for Walker.

For now, he will focus on his season and get the test out of the way.

"My coach is telling me I should get that done now so it's done and out of the way," Walker said. "I have a 3.2 GPA so grades aren't a problem, but just in case I should take it so I know where I stand. I want to take my visits at the end of the season, but I have to worry about this first."
