Walker Favors Georgia Tech

A player that Ohio State is showing plenty of interest in is guard Will Walker of Bolingbrook, Illinois. The Buckeyes have offered, but where do they stand? Kyle Lamb caught up with Walker to find out.

As one of the top prospects in the state of Illinois in 2006, Will Walker is a hot commodity. After speaking with Walker on Tuesday evening, Bucknuts has learned there's one school that's pretty hot for Walker. And the feeling is mutual.

Walker, ranked as the 10th-best point guard in the class of 2006 by Scout Hoops, is averaging nearly 19 points a game this season for Bolingbrook (Ill.) High School.

He gave a rundown of just some of the many schools showing him a lot of interest right now.

"Marquette is showing a lot of interest, Georgia Tech too. Illinois, Wake Forest, Michigan, Oklahoma State, and N.C. State; those are the main teams showing the most interest," Walker said.

"Ohio State and Miami (FL.) have both offered, as well," he added. "There are a lot of others that I've heard from."

So it's safe to assume Ohio State is really interested as well?

"Oh yeah, I've seen them in the crowd a lot this season watching me," he said. "They talk to my coach a lot."

Bolingbrook is 19-3 on the season, something Walker cherishes.

This summer, Walker transferred from Romeoville, and he's glad that he did. Bolingbrook is one of the better teams in the state, and Walker is enjoying the winning mentality.

"It's going real well," Walker said of his team's season. "My high school team has never done so well, so that's been really good. We just won our conference championship last week, so that's really fun. I guess my focus is on winning the state now."

Balancing his aspirations of a state title, he's still keeping one eye on the process, and especially a select few college programs.

Over the past couple of months, Walker has been able to shape a solid list of schools he's targeting more than others. One team has risen to the top.

"I like Georgia Tech a lot," Walker said boldly. "Miami sounds good right now, Illinois is doing real well obviously. They run a lot with the ball, which I like. I want to see even more of Georgia Tech, however."

So the question remained, does that mean Georgia Tech is a leader?

"Yes, I guess you could definitely say that," Walker remarked.

Walker concluded by saying he will take some visits after the season. Right now, the only visit he knows he will take for sure is Georgia Tech, but he indicated he's interested in visits in several other places, which may include Marquette, Illinois, Miami, Ohio State, Wake Forest, and others.

Be sure to stay tuned for more on Walker in the coming weeks and months.
