Dustin - Thanks for a great Buckeye career. You are a fine representative of the Ohio State University and Buckeye football! I think I speak for most all of us when I wish you all the best in the future.
DustinFox (Mar 14, 2005 2:09:46 PM)
Thanks for the kind words. DragonKnight (Mar 14, 2005 2:09:09 PM)
Any preference on playing CB or safety in the NFL? Any clue where teams are projecting you?
DustinFox (Mar 14, 2005 2:09:46 PM)
No preference. A lot of teams are projecting as a CB, some as a safety. I have no idea what teams will project me as.
jrd150 (Mar 14, 2005 2:09:17 PM)
Dustin... who of the young buckeye dbs do u think can make an impact this season??
DustinFox (Mar 14, 2005 2:10:24 PM)
Obviously, Youboty is going to be really good. The big question is who will be the other corner. Maybe Jamario O'Neal coming in or possibly Tyler Everett could move over there.
BuckeyeDave (Mar 14, 2005 2:09:49 PM)
When you think about the upcoming NFL draft, is there a particular team that you would like to play for? Would you prefer to join Mike Doss in Indianapolis? Mike Wilhelm in San Diego? How 'bout Vrabel in New England?
DustinFox (Mar 14, 2005 2:11:17 PM)
It would be cool to play for anybody in that league, believe me. Would be nice to go somewhere where there is somebody I know who can help me out. The Browns (with Mel Tucker) or the Pats or the Cols, those would all be good.
Mike68 (Mar 14, 2005 2:10:05 PM)
Who do you see stepping up to take the other CB spot opposite Youboty?
DustinFox (Mar 14, 2005 2:12:23 PM)
Mike, in terms of the corner spot, the coaches may also look at Ted Ginn. If it became an issue where they didn't have anybody, then maybe. But they are recruiting guys to play there too, so I don't see it necessarily.
Mike68 (Mar 14, 2005 2:11:33 PM)
Give us your thoughts on the red-shirted DB's (Sirjo -CB or safety, Patterson, B. Underwood-does he have the ability to see the field this year if grades pan out)
DustinFox (Mar 14, 2005 2:13:45 PM)
Mike asks about the redshirted DBs, Brandon Underwood has a lot of ability. He just needs some size. Sirjo is like a little Mike Doss. That's what we always call him. Patterson is going to be good. All of those guys are a few years away from being stars. They need to learn the system. They are raw and have ability or they wouldn't be there.
DragonKnight (Mar 14, 2005 2:12:02 PM)
Who do you think starts QB at OSU next year and do you think Smith has been forgiven by the team and coaches?
DustinFox (Mar 14, 2005 2:14:39 PM)
DragonKnight, it's hard to say who would start. Smith has been forgiven, he's back and no one really thinks about it. The starter will be determined by performance in practice.
redondo (Mar 14, 2005 2:12:32 PM)
Hi Dustin - Thank you for being such a significant part of so many great, and at times harrowing moments, in Buckeye history. What was your biggest concern about coming to the Buckeyes after the transition was made from Coach Cooper to Coach Tressel and how were those concerns put to rest? Thank you.
DustinFox (Mar 14, 2005 2:15:41 PM)
redondo, I didn't really have any concerns. A lot of my concerns were whether I would get to play. That was addressed and Coach Dantonio threw me in there right away. I didn't have any major concerns. I felt good about everything.
yooperbuck (Mar 14, 2005 2:15:08 PM)
What play stands out in your buckeye career as your buckeye moment?
DustinFox (Mar 14, 2005 2:16:32 PM)
yooperbuck, my Buckeye moment? Probably the interception in the national championship game against Miami and Ken Dorsey. That's probably the one. All of the interceptions were great, but that one stands out.
DragonKnight (Mar 14, 2005 2:17:17 PM)
Some rumors have been coming out that Haw looked great in practice. Any comments?
DustinFox (Mar 14, 2005 2:18:19 PM)
DragonKnight, I think Erik Haw has a lot of ability. He has more speed than people think. He also has good size. He was really good when he wanted to be. He just needs to mature and get better. He gave us a great look on the scout team.
ncbuckeye (Mar 14, 2005 2:17:22 PM)
First thanks for four great years, you will be missed, if you could pick a team to play for at the next level instead of them picking you, who would it be and why? Thanks
DustinFox (Mar 14, 2005 2:19:27 PM)
ncbuckeye, I'd say at this point probably be between the Browns because they have Mel, the Patriots because they have Vrabel and are such a good team and I'd fit into their mold.
semperfibuck (Mar 14, 2005 2:17:46 PM)
Dustin - given you guys are very competitive with each other, do you do sprints and jumps informally against each other very often. And thanks for being a great Buckeye.
DustinFox (Mar 14, 2005 2:20:19 PM)
semper, not really. All of our stuff is when we test. We try to beat each other. Maybe we have some dunk contests in the off-season, but that's it.
redondo (Mar 14, 2005 2:19:26 PM)
Hi Dustin - Could you give us some insight into the aftermath of the pro workouts, please? Do the scouts say work on this or that? Do some teams emerge in terms of their level of interest while some disappear? And lastly what are next steps? thank you.
DustinFox (Mar 14, 2005 2:21:59 PM)
redondo, you don't get a lot of feedback after the workouts. You'd like to get more. I talked to some people at the pro day. They said they would come back and work me out in individual workouts in April. Usually, you have to be a pretty good prospect to get an individual workout. The position coach may come down and spend a day with you, watch film and work you out and go to lunch and get to know you.
buckfan78 (Mar 14, 2005 2:19:48 PM)
Thanks for the great memories and good luck with your pro career! What are some of your hobbies and interests outside of football?
DustinFox (Mar 14, 2005 2:22:45 PM)
buckfan78, thank you. Hobbies and interests: I like to play basketball a lot, play video games, hang out with my wife, normal stuff, play golf.
BuckeyeDave (Mar 14, 2005 2:20:02 PM)
If you had not signed with the Buckeyes, where would it have been? Who was second choice?
DustinFox (Mar 14, 2005 2:23:13 PM)
Buckeye Dave, I also considered Penn State. Obviously, my brother, Derek, played there and I knew the coaches there very well. Tough decision.
Mike68 (Mar 14, 2005 2:20:48 PM)
Please clear up for us if playing zone instead of man most of the time was by design or more out of necessity. Also why not press more vs playing so far back off the line?
DustinFox (Mar 14, 2005 2:24:31 PM)
Mike68, ha ha that's very funny. Everybody seems to ask about that. That was basically our scheme. That wasn't our decision. Do you think we liked giving up 5-yard passes on every play. Our scheme was to give up the short passes, don't give up the big play and play great in the red zone.
semperfibuck (Mar 14, 2005 2:21:48 PM)
Dustin - who was the best receiver you played against? Who was best in practice?
DustinFox (Mar 14, 2005 2:25:15 PM)
semperfi, best receiver played against, that's hard to say because I played against so many really good receivers. In terms of practice, Santonio Holmes probably.
DragonKnight (Mar 14, 2005 2:25:02 PM)
It's been a while since you were recruited, but any interesting stories or lines coaches gave you? Any insight into the process us recruiting junkies may not know?
DustinFox (Mar 14, 2005 2:27:30 PM)
DragonKnight, I don't have any crazy stories. My trips were kind of low key. I committed to Ohio State before my senior year, I didn't take any other visits. Then Coach Cooper got fired. When that happened, I visited Penn State and that was fun because my brother got to go with me. He still knew a lot of guys on the team. Then I visited Ohio State on a Tuesday. We didn't do too much. I got to go to the stadium and they had my jersey in my locker. I put it on and walked down the runway. That was right after the stadium was finished. That was neat. ...
DustinFox (Mar 14, 2005 2:27:54 PM)
They used to put the kids names on the JumboTron, but they can't do it now because of NCAA rules and every school can't do it.
BuckeyeDave (Mar 14, 2005 2:25:34 PM)
Dustin - Any chance you'll jump on the phone and have a chat with some of the Class of '06 recruits and try to influence them a little bit? There's a kid in Cincinnati and one in Pickerington that might need a phone call...
DustinFox (Mar 14, 2005 2:29:26 PM)
BuckeyeDave, I'm not going to do that. I worked hard on Brian Hartline from GlenOak and now I'm working on Mike. Brian is like one of my little brothers. I can't wait until he gets in here and develops. He's already back running the hurdles. He won at the indoor meet down here and did 7.59 in the 55-meter hurdles.
redondo (Mar 14, 2005 2:26:05 PM)
Hi Dustin - How different is Coach Tressel from what we see on tv and hear on the weekly press luncheons and radio shows? Thank you.
DustinFox (Mar 14, 2005 2:30:43 PM)
redondo, he's about exactly the same as you see him on TV. I think I've only ever seen him mad one time. That's about it. He gets a little fired up in practice, but nothing where he goes crazy. He's down to earth and what you see is what you get.
semperfibuck (Mar 14, 2005 2:27:10 PM)
Dustin - which player helped you the most when you first came to Ohio State? Was Mike Doss the great leader all of us perceived him to be?
DustinFox (Mar 14, 2005 2:31:51 PM)
semperfi, Mike and Donnie Nickey both, just because we were so close as DBs. Mike was just a great leader. We knew each other. He could give me crap like an older brother would a younger brother, kind of like me and Brian. Mike and I played against each other in high school.
BuckeyeDave (Mar 14, 2005 2:28:21 PM)
SemperFi asks a good question. How much of a motivation to win the NC was Doss's return?
DustinFox (Mar 14, 2005 2:32:43 PM)
BuckeyeDave, I think he was a very big part of it. He had this vision of doing it and he wouldn't let go of it. He always made the plays and said all the right things.
Mike68 (Mar 14, 2005 2:29:48 PM)
What are your thoughts towards MoC? Do they players feel the same way that Andy Geiger does? Frustrated, upset, mad, bitter, etc...... Thanks as I know this is a tough question to have thrown at you.
DustinFox (Mar 14, 2005 2:34:10 PM)
Mike68, it is a tough question about Clarett. You're upset about some things. But he's just a kid. He's younger than me. We all make mistakes. Hopefully, he gets his life turned around and gets things squared away. I didn't really know him that well.
redondo (Mar 14, 2005 2:32:57 PM)
Hi Dustin - Thank you for taking my question. I can guess about the excitement associated with the upcoming draft and prospective pro career, but career-wise beyond pro football, what do you see yourself doing?
DustinFox (Mar 14, 2005 2:34:57 PM)
redondo, beyond football I see possibly a career in broadcasting or a possible business/sales career or possibly coaching. It just depends where the cards fall.
semperfibuck (Mar 14, 2005 2:33:57 PM)
Dustin - we all hope you play for a long time on Sundays. We'll be rooting for whomever is smart enough to draft you. Stay healthy! Thanks for stopping by to chat with us.
yooperbuck (Mar 14, 2005 2:34:05 PM)
Dustin, do you think you might like to coach after your long and distinguished NFL career?
DustinFox (Mar 14, 2005 2:37:18 PM)
yooperbuck, coaching is a possibility. It depends how long I get to play.
DragonKnight (Mar 14, 2005 2:34:21 PM)
We always heard you were one of the fastest guys on the team. With you and Mo Hall gone who are the speesters now?
DustinFox (Mar 14, 2005 2:38:36 PM)
DragonKnight, obviously Ted Ginn would be up there. I think Erik Haw may be one of the faster guys. Tony Gonzalez is pretty fast, Santonio is pretty fast.
turd (Mar 14, 2005 2:34:52 PM)
Dustin thanks for hosting the chat...the fellas on the board have been giving me a hard time about my 5.3 mark in the 40 at the beat mo challenge...taking into consiteration the facts that i laid out in my post lie at the combine the time starts off the players first movement and not some guy yelling across the gym when to go and bad shoes and apparel. my time wasn't too bad was it? good luck in the draft dustin, remember a lot of buckeye fans are steelers fans too ;)
DustinFox (Mar 14, 2005 2:39:32 PM)
turd, 5.3? How big a guy are you, then we'll know if it's a good time.
turd (Mar 14, 2005 2:40:01 PM)
5'10" 160 skinny thighs and i think that might be an issue ;)
DustinFox (Mar 14, 2005 2:40:58 PM)
turd, that's a horrible time (just kidding).
turd (Mar 14, 2005 2:42:40 PM)
awesome just remember the steelers are your friend second day you would look good in that uniform brother (that didn't sound like I wanted it too, but you get the idea)
DustinFox (Mar 14, 2005 2:45:07 PM)
turd, regarding the Steelers, I made myself on Madden in that uniform, and I think it did look sweet. 37 looks good on me there.
Mike68 (Mar 14, 2005 2:36:25 PM)
Which of the young WR's (Lyons, Jordan, Dukes-if he returns, Hartline) do you see making the biggest jump/most impact in '05
DustinFox (Mar 14, 2005 2:40:34 PM)
Mike68, they are pretty set with Ginn, Holmes and Gonzalez. Maybe one of those young guys will get to play. If they get Dukes back, I think he has a chance to actually be better than Santonio. He's really good.
fotownbuckeye (Mar 14, 2005 2:37:14 PM)
Dustin Congrats on a great career! Don't know if this was asked yet. Who was the best player you defended during your career?
DustinFox (Mar 14, 2005 2:41:51 PM)
fotownbuckeye, Braylon Edwards, Courtney Roby from Indiana was really good, Brian Johnson from Penn State.
redondo (Mar 14, 2005 2:38:07 PM)
Hi Dustin - What do you think the biggest mischaracterization or created misperception of the Buckeye football program is? What gets said on radio, tv, or in the paper that just makes you want to scream "that's not right!!". Thank you.
DustinFox (Mar 14, 2005 2:43:07 PM)
redondo, regarding misconceptions, the idea that money and no-work jobs are out there for us and that we get our school taken care of and don't work hard. That's wrong because I know I have worked hard for everything I've got.
ToledoBucknutty (Mar 14, 2005 2:38:40 PM)
hi dustin...first of all, congratulations on an outstanding career and thanks for exemplifying on and off the field a class collegiate athlete! i have enjoyed watching your play as a buckeye and wish you all the best in The League. I wish you could get paid for playing at OSU though because there truly is nothing like BUCKEYE FOOTBALL!!!! Just a quick question...are you leaving this team in capable hands? Do you think that our high expectations are well-founded?
ToledoBucknutty (Mar 14, 2005 2:39:56 PM)
I mean national championship high expectations...
DustinFox (Mar 14, 2005 2:44:18 PM)
Toledo, on high expectations, I think so. You look at who we lost, we didn't really lose anybody and look at how we finished the season. That has to make you feel good about things.
ToledoBucknutty (Mar 14, 2005 2:45:09 PM)
agreed man thanks
ToledoBucknutty (Mar 14, 2005 2:45:23 PM)
we'll miss you though
DragonKnight (Mar 14, 2005 2:44:08 PM)
In the scUM game, on the field is it more respect or hatred?
DustinFox (Mar 14, 2005 2:45:40 PM)
DragonKnight, about Michigan, definitely respect. You know you are each the best in the Big Ten.
turd (Mar 14, 2005 2:47:00 PM)
Dustin do any of the guys frequest the site here and if so do they have any favorite posters? i mean bucknuts has to be worthy of locker room conversation...
DustinFox (Mar 14, 2005 2:48:15 PM)
turd, everyone looks at the web sites, all the posters shouldn't hate on the players, they're just kids.
yooperbuck (Mar 14, 2005 2:48:04 PM)
Dustin, of all your personal stats or abilities, your jump is what caught my eye about you back when you were being recruited. Was this developed or just a gift from above?
DustinFox (Mar 14, 2005 2:49:33 PM)
yooperbuck, the jumping ability was definitely a gift from above, the devices and workouts help, but all of a sudden you aren't going from a 20 inch vertical to a 40. I just jump. It's fun. There's just springs in there. My mom and dad were both athletic. My dad was a really good basketball player.
redondo (Mar 14, 2005 2:49:06 PM)
Dustin - Thank you again for stopping by today. We really appreciate it. Any chance you could stop by afterthe draft for a chat then about that experience?
DustinFox (Mar 14, 2005 2:50:16 PM)
redondo, I'll be around until June. You go to one minicamp for a weekend after the draft, then back to classes. I graduate in June with a degree in communications.
turd (Mar 14, 2005 2:51:24 PM)
another serious question...how much of the women you were able to pull in college could you attribute to being a stater for THE OHIO STATE university? i have some eligability left and grad school is a good option....i mean it has to help with the ladies right???
DustinFox (Mar 14, 2005 2:52:26 PM)
I attribute to finding my girlfriend in high school to being an athlete. We've been together since high school and got married last June.
DustinFox (Mar 14, 2005 2:52:42 PM)
Any other last questions?
redondo (Mar 14, 2005 2:52:58 PM)
Hi Dustin - was there any big surprise associated with playing Big Ten football and being a member of a high profile program like Ohio State? Anywhere, anytime where you said - "Wow, I didn't expect that!"?
DustinFox (Mar 14, 2005 2:54:13 PM)
redondo, regarding unexpected things, that's hard to say. I'm so used to it all, it's hard to say. I guess I would just say there are some days in your career you get up at 5 in the morning and don't get home until 8 at night. That's when you realize it's a job.
yooperbuck (Mar 14, 2005 2:53:00 PM)
I am so impressed with the whole team's accomplishments in the classroom. Please thank the whole team for us.
DragonKnight (Mar 14, 2005 2:53:18 PM)
Thanks for dropping by. Good luck in the draft, we'll all be watching
ToledoBucknutty (Mar 14, 2005 2:53:25 PM)
I know the Lions just took a free agent safety , but have you talked to them at all?
DustinFox (Mar 14, 2005 2:55:15 PM)
Toledo, regarding the Lions, I talked to their DB coach at the combine. Their DBs coach was my brother's coach with the Colts.
shoefan (Mar 14, 2005 2:53:40 PM)
Dustin, its been great having you as a Buckeye. We wish you the best on draft day.
BuckeyeDave (Mar 14, 2005 2:54:23 PM)
If you've got a good vertical, you should give volleyball a go. Once you start playing some good, get-down volleyball, you'll never look back!
DustinFox (Mar 14, 2005 2:55:57 PM)
Dave, I have played volleyball and it is a lot of fun.
redondo (Mar 14, 2005 2:54:49 PM)
Hi Dustin - Do the players have a preference on early game, 3:30 game or night game? If so, why? Thank you.
DustinFox (Mar 14, 2005 2:57:27 PM)
redondo, I liked the noon games. You get up and play. You can ask Branden Joe this, his locker is next to me. I always tell him after a noon game, no greater feeling than winning a noon game, you're done early, you get to go watch the rest of the games, it's still light out and you still have a weekend with Sat. night. It's especially nice when you beat Michigan in an early game ... ha ha.
ToledoBucknutty (Mar 14, 2005 2:56:21 PM)
well good luck man wherever you go and thanks again for representing so well!
BuckeyeDave (Mar 14, 2005 2:56:46 PM)
Thanks for your time, Dustin. Come and visit us again
yooperbuck (Mar 14, 2005 2:57:49 PM)
Dustin, as Bob Hope would say, THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES1
DustinFox (Mar 14, 2005 2:58:09 PM)
Thanks everybody for the well wishes. Really appreciate it!
redondo (Mar 14, 2005 2:58:21 PM)
Hi Dustin - Allowing that you are the best player host for recruiting, who would you say is second best and why? Thank you.
DustinFox (Mar 14, 2005 2:59:07 PM)
redondo, I never hosted anybody. I think Branden Joe was the best host. He always had fun showing guys around and everything.
Steve Helwagen (Mar 14, 2005 2:59:57 PM)
We're signing off. Want to thank Dustin for his time. And everybody for participating.
ToledoBucknutty (Mar 14, 2005 3:00:00 PM)
Dustin, you're the man...take care !!
ToledoBucknutty (Mar 14, 2005 3:00:17 PM)
