Russell participated in four events in the Class AAAA meet – the long jump, 4x100 relay and the 100- and 200-meter dashes. He placed second in the 200 in 22.00, just 0.17 of a second behind the race winner. He was also fourth in the 100-meter dash in 10.98 seconds.
Russell told Bucknuts.com earlier this week he will graduate next Saturday. His final academic marks will likely be a 3.0 GPA and an 1130 on the SAT.
"I am looking forward to graduation," Russell said. "There is a chance I'm going to run in the Nike national track meet June 5 in Raleigh, N.C."
Russell said he plans to stay in the Atlanta area this summer and work out at Competitive Edge Sports.
"I will be working out with Chip Smith," Russell said. "He has been a trainer for a lot of college and pro athletes.
"Then, I'll come up for my orientation July 21. I'll will probably stay in Columbus after that and work out with the team."
It has been speculated that the 6-0, 205-pound Russell, who starred at running back and defensive back for Marist, could play on either side of the ball at Ohio State.
"I have talked with (secondary coach Paul) Haynes," Russell said. "He came down here and I met him. He would be my defensive backs coach if I end up playing defense. I have been in contact with him."
