Duane, out of these three, who do think will have the best career at OSU and why: Cotton, Maupin or Abdallah?
Duane (May 27, 2005 1:13:51 PM)
Abdallah. He is as physically gifted as the others and has his head screwed on straight.
WestonBuckeye (May 27, 2005 1:13:54 PM)
What ever happened to that FL QB that committed to the Buckeyes but when on to sign with a minor league baseball club. How is he doing? Any chance of him coming here?
Kirk (May 27, 2005 1:14:01 PM)
Duane (May 27, 2005 1:14:45 PM)
No idea what happened to Bauserman.
JimC (May 27, 2005 1:14:47 PM)
Hi Duane, Do you think Hartline will get a schollie? If so, will we offer 2 QB's?
Duane (May 27, 2005 1:16:06 PM)
I think Hartline has to come in here and blow up the camp like he did last year. The staff really likes Isiah Williams and it looks like the Buckeyes are heavily in the mix and may in fact lead.
Duane (May 27, 2005 1:16:34 PM)
If Hartline does blow up the camp and Williams wants to come in too I suspect we see 2 in this class.
buckicrazy (May 27, 2005 1:16:38 PM)
Hi Duane, I read on the internet that both Cotton and Maupin might be responsible for some of Heacock's gray hair. What seems to be the problem? Is it inconsistency or just getting into trouble?
Duane (May 27, 2005 1:18:48 PM)
Various attitude and immaturity issues.
WestonBuckeye (May 27, 2005 1:19:19 PM)
Who is the next commit?
Duane (May 27, 2005 1:20:18 PM)
I got out of the projection business long ago. Fans just get too worked up about it. I suspect Connor Smith wants to get it over with and I think the Buckeyes are odds on.
buckicrazy (May 27, 2005 1:20:22 PM)
with a lack of RB's this year how many do you think OSU will take in the next class? Does the fact that Chris Wells has already committed hurt us with bringing in more big backs?
Duane (May 27, 2005 1:22:17 PM)
Franchise back, Buckeye fans. If an elite kid wants to come in he would be welcome but I don't see an aggressive push for another back and once the #1 back in the country commits that about it ends it with other big time backs. Next year there are good pickings in Ohio so I can see looking at other positions this year.
TheMinnesotaBuckeye (May 27, 2005 1:22:39 PM)
Are you seeing any evidence of stepped-up recruiting in Ohio by Notre Dame?
Duane (May 27, 2005 1:24:22 PM)
Big time. I always was baffled by the fact that Lou Holtz had Ohio roots but never really hit Ohio. Weiss is already making a big charge in Ohio.. He has Wade from Withrow and is hard on his teammate Robert Williams, who likely comes down to Ohio State and Notre Dame, and he is likley going to get John Ryan from St. Igs.
Duane (May 27, 2005 1:25:21 PM)
Hartline really likes Notre Dame too, and they are coming after Lee Tilley.
AJ (May 27, 2005 1:24:31 PM)
Hi Duane thanks for having this chat. My question is can you predict if there will be people from around ohio that will get more consideration as the recruiting season progresses? Sleepers that nobody would think get an osu offer?
Duane (May 27, 2005 1:28:16 PM)
I think we will find about that at camp. Nagy is really starting to look like a viable offer. I think the transfer from Berea to Glenville, an LB named Echols could open some eyes. I like Dominic Alford, an OL from Shaker Heights. Mike McGee from Brookhaven is a fine athlete and a very smart football player. There is a kid named Angelo Barbarro at Canfield that is going to be a player that gets some attention as we go along. He ran a 4.5 electronically timed recently.
WestonBuckeye (May 27, 2005 1:28:26 PM)
A lot of people think Anderson Russell offer was a mistake. i have a feeling the kid will surprise many. Do you agree?
Duane (May 27, 2005 1:29:38 PM)
I think he is a great get. All you have to do is watch the tape. Forget about the hype. I think fans have a hard time evaluating players so they listen to the hype too much. That kid can play.
labsbeabmm (May 27, 2005 1:29:47 PM)
Any new word on Lyon's recruitment?
Duane (May 27, 2005 1:30:13 PM)
TheMinnesotaBuckeye (May 27, 2005 1:30:19 PM)
Give us your top 5 teams in the Big 10 for 2005, based strictly on overall talent.
Duane (May 27, 2005 1:31:01 PM)
Ohio State, Michigan, Iowa, Wisconsin and Minnesota.
osutopia (May 27, 2005 1:31:17 PM)
Good afternoon Buckeye brothers: The obvious over-talked subject is about the Buckeye outlaws, but I would like your insight into the current recruits as to whether they seem to weigh the bad boy issues as a true determinate....Do they appear to be thinking about it?
Duane (May 27, 2005 1:33:38 PM)
I think parents pay more attention than the kids but really parents know that kids, not always bad kids, do stupid things. I think they also know kids that do bad things but they are from good families so they don't blame those parents, let alone the coach.
buckicrazy (May 27, 2005 1:33:42 PM)
Do you think OSU has a chance with Chichester? Having a WR that's 6'-8" would be real nice in the red zone.
Duane (May 27, 2005 1:35:50 PM)
I want to say once again that kid is not going to be a WR. He is not fast enough now and will slow down a smidge as he gets bigger. That said, I think the Buckeyes have a great chance if they feel comfortable that the kid is not going to be a basketball first athlete, and then offer. Until they are sure I don't see an offer.
AnotherBuck (May 27, 2005 1:36:00 PM)
Duane, is Nagy worthy of an offer?
Duane (May 27, 2005 1:36:33 PM)
I think he is. Definitely. I would have offered him off his junior year tape.
AJ (May 27, 2005 1:36:37 PM)
Duane other than Chris Wells and Ross Homan who are your other "5" Must gets?
Duane (May 27, 2005 1:38:38 PM)
Brown, Smith, Gibson, Coleman, Small and I would have had Boren on that list. Others I would very much like to see in scarlet and gray are Rose and Hartline. I want Nagy and I think Palmer has a huge upside.
skeelo (May 27, 2005 1:38:44 PM)
i know you love offensive tackles but who is the best offensive linemen in the state?
Duane (May 27, 2005 1:39:31 PM)
Brown and Smith. Smith is the better blocker but Brown has such physical tools.
burns (May 27, 2005 1:39:36 PM)
Duane...that's an interesting response. Do you really like Minnesota better than Purdue at this point? I think Purdue, primarily because of their schedule should finish no worse that 4th.
Duane (May 27, 2005 1:40:44 PM)
He asked me based on talent. Minnesota is really putting together some talent. Better than at anytime since I have been following football which is about 35 years.
AnotherBuck (May 27, 2005 1:41:48 PM)
Duane, who do you think will take over Massillon?
Duane (May 27, 2005 1:43:23 PM)
It is starting to look like Thom McDaniels is the front runner. The good news for Massillon fans is Vic Whiting is the likely #2 and what a coach he is. What I hear is McDaniels is open to the move. We will see very soon in my opinion.
AnotherBuck (May 27, 2005 1:44:22 PM)
Duane, any great freshman or sophomore at Massillon?
Duane (May 27, 2005 1:45:27 PM)
Andrew Dailey. Serious talent. 6-3 and 225. At one point played some corner. Is that an athlete or what?
ImBack45 (May 27, 2005 1:49:49 PM)
Duane, with all the offensive line talent in the state this year, what is the difference between someone like Brown and Smith versus a Palmer or Browning? Thx.!
Duane (May 27, 2005 1:52:22 PM)
There is a dropoff. To me there is Brown and Smith, then Boren, then Tilley, Palmer and Ballard. You could throw Nagy in there as an OL. If you want what separates them that would take up an entire chat trying to explain what I see in one over the other.
marksgforce (May 27, 2005 1:52:33 PM)
Will any starters lose their first team jobs this year? Shnittker? Hamby? Kudla?
Duane (May 27, 2005 1:55:28 PM)
I think Kudla could be the most underrated player on this team. Schnittker and Hamby are odds on to be out of there in my opinion. Hamby just isn't a good enough inline blocker. He tries. He just isn't big enough. I am not talking about Nicol. He really needs to work on his hands. Frost is the one to watch. Johnson will take Schnittker's job. Here is one to watch. Hoobler. He may not start the year as the #1 Mike but I won't be surprised if he ends the year as the #1. Watch Boone. He is special.
Palmer (May 27, 2005 1:55:44 PM)
Duane, in my opinion Ray Small is the perfect size to play corner. He's 5'11 185. But there is all this talk about him playing WR, is he that good of a wide receiver?
Duane (May 27, 2005 1:56:31 PM)
He is that good. I rate him as a receiver. Last time I spoke to Sr he said he was coming around to that thinking.
LABuck (May 27, 2005 1:56:39 PM)
Duane, How good of a receiver is David Lighty? Who would you compare him to speed wise and in pass catching ability if he indeed chose to play some football down the line at OSU?
Duane (May 27, 2005 1:57:01 PM)
Smalls after the catch skills are pretty amazing, and he wants to play receiver.
Duane (May 27, 2005 1:58:30 PM)
Speed was always the question. We don't know. He quit playing football before we got a clock on him. He was great. Really great. Hands. Body control. Fearless over the middle. Wanted the ball in crunch time. I would welcome him to walk on.
Palmer (May 27, 2005 1:59:55 PM)
Duane, what out of state prospects do you see us getting for next year?
Duane (May 27, 2005 2:02:02 PM)
Outside of Williams I really don't see anyone that I feel good about at this early point. I have to say Reuland coming all this way bodes well. The lineman from Pittsburgh, I can't remember his name off the top of my head, I think the Buckeyes have a shot. Lyons too.
Palmer (May 27, 2005 2:03:03 PM)
What about Ausberry from california i think, he was born in columbus and has said that he is a buckeyes fan?
Duane (May 27, 2005 2:04:22 PM)
That is a new name to me. I have not looked into him.
ImBack45 (May 27, 2005 2:04:50 PM)
duane, just curious would you have offered the kid from Cincy who verbaled to ND, I believe his name was Wade. Hate to see ND reestablish themselves in Cincy.
Duane (May 27, 2005 2:06:10 PM)
I would have wanted to see him up close. He had the height and the wingspan I want in a DE but I would have wanted to see if that body could add enough weight so I would have waited until camp. I really liked him as a player.
Duane (May 27, 2005 2:06:52 PM)
See you all on the board. I am always stopping in there to answer questions.
