so Kyle, what is the word on Jamil Tucker?
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 9:10:05 PM)
OK, fire your questions away
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 9:10:38 PM)
Orlando, as of two days ago, they were still heading out. The tournament starts on Friday. I'll have more information tomorrow on it. That's the Breakdown tournament
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 9:11:43 PM)
Jim, as far as Jamil Tucker, he didn't get the offer he was looking for, and he probably will not. His high school coach, John Boyd is furious, but I think it just came down to Ohio State wanting Tucker to play hard and play well, and Raymar Morgan did that better. I don't believe Tucker is going to consider Ohio State much more.
bobcat84 (Jul 12, 2005 9:11:57 PM)
Morgan on board?
hondo (Jul 12, 2005 9:12:00 PM)
Do you think Ramar chooses Ohio State?
Bucks97 (Jul 12, 2005 9:12:03 PM)
Is Morgan a Buckeye lean now, even possibly committing soon?
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 9:13:01 PM)
The answer to this is that our sources tell us that Ohio State is looking good to land Raymar Morgan. I think he was somewhat frustrated it took so long to be offered, but he also really would love to play with Cook and Lighty, as well as Conley and Oden....
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 9:13:35 PM)
I think Ohio State has a real good chance to land him, and I think if it happens, it could happen by the end of the week. If it doesn't happen within a week or two, I look for him to take his official visits and decide by Septemer.
ODOGG45 (Jul 12, 2005 9:13:43 PM)
Kyle- do you know where Brandon Johnson from Groveport will be going to college?
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 9:13:53 PM)
I do not know that. I'll try to find out for you if I can.
scUM (Jul 12, 2005 9:13:59 PM)
Does Macklin have grade issues?
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 9:14:32 PM)
None that i'm aware of. The biggest issue with Macklin is that he will not play more than one season of college basketball. If Raymar Morgan commits to Ohio State, this will be a moot point as they won't take two power forward types.
ODOGG45 (Jul 12, 2005 9:14:40 PM)
Kyle- why exactly is Morgan blowing up so much ? Underated or improving? What do you think of him as a power Forward
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 9:15:45 PM)
There were always a lot of people, like myself and even Dave Telep, that liked Morgan a lot. I personally felt he was always a good fit for this class. He's tough as nails, very athletic, strong, and he finishes well. I think he just started playing with a chip on his shoulder the last month or so because of feeling sleighted, and it has made everyone take notice.
82dBUCKEYE (Jul 12, 2005 9:16:00 PM)
Kyle. As excited as I am about Oden & Co., I feel that all of this publicity is causing some to overlook the opportunities the Buckeyes have for next season. I think we are going to see references to this recruiting class on TV all through next season, and was wondering if you think that will become a distraction to this year's team??
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 9:17:12 PM)
It won't be a distraction by any means. If nothing else, I think it would help Ohio State in that the energy and excitement would carry over into the atmosphere for games this season. As far as being overlooked, I think that's more of a media thing. I believe most Ohio State fans in the area realize the team this season could win over 20 games, finish in the upper half of the Big Ten, and make a decent NCAA run.
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 9:17:42 PM)
Also let me add, that every year there is a lot of recruiting going on, it overshadows the actual team until the season draws near.
ODOGG45 (Jul 12, 2005 9:17:50 PM)
what's the latest on Dante Jackson?
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 9:18:43 PM)
Dante Jackson is a kid the staff loves as far as his personality, and I feel his best shot to get an offer could come in Las Vegas later this month. If he doesn't do well enough out there, he might not get another chance, and if he does, it might not be until March.
bw1954 (Jul 12, 2005 9:18:51 PM)
If we get Morgan don't you think its Young or we bank 2 schollies ?
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 9:19:36 PM)
I believe Ohio State will continue to go after Thaddeus Young as their bonus baby, but they will bank the remaining one or two scholarships pending what happens with him (this is assuming they landed Morgan, of course).
Jim (Jul 12, 2005 9:19:46 PM)
what is the word on Thaddeus Young or Vernon Macklin?
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 9:20:38 PM)
The latest information I have on Young is that people around him want him to go to Memphis. He is interested in Ohio State a lot, but I do think the playing time issue is a situation for him because he knows there are already three very good guards going in with that class.
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 9:21:09 PM)
Macklin is mulling over his options and hopes to decide in a month or two after taking visits. Ohio State would have a good shot if they still have the position open.
bobcat84 (Jul 12, 2005 9:21:22 PM)
Koufos has done a 180 on his interest increasing in OSU it seems....
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 9:21:53 PM)
I believe Koufos was always interested to a certain extent, but Ohio State didn't really get started in on him quite as quickly as they were spending more time focusing on 2006.
Bucks97 (Jul 12, 2005 9:21:55 PM)
Who are we in best standing with for the 2007 class?
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 9:22:51 PM)
They are sitting best with Dallas Lauderdale. Other guys they are doing well with is Koufos, Jackson if they offer, and Rakim Sanders - a 6-5 wing from Rhode Island seems hot for Ohio State along with Providence recently.
Guest (Jul 12, 2005 9:23:02 PM)
Everyone is excited about the '06 recruits and beyond, but I'm wondering about how far the '05-'06 Bucks will go. Alot of us seem to think that will depend on the improvement of 3 returners, Harris, Butler and Terwilliger. Do you have a good feel for how those guys have progressed on what the coaches are looking for out of each of them?
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 9:23:34 PM)
Wigmon asks about what the progress has been with players for this year and what the coaches expect out of them...
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 9:24:34 PM)
I would say they all have continued to get in a lot better physical condition. Matt Terwilliger has really bulked up, while Terence Dials has trimmed down. Butler looks a half a step quicker while Sylvester looked stronger. Butler and rebounding are the keys.
OrlandoBuckeye (Jul 12, 2005 9:24:45 PM)
Kyle- Can you look ahead a little to the 2007 and 2008 classes? Koufos, Dante Jackson, Lauderdale have been mentioned as well as Gates in 2008. Too early to predict those classes?
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 9:25:55 PM)
Too early to say, but it's not a stretch to envision Koufos and Lauderdale coming in together for 2007, as well as Gates possibly joining Mullens in 2008. I don't know if there's enough room in the frontcourt for all of those guys, but we will see.
IndyBucksFan (Jul 12, 2005 9:26:04 PM)
Kyle-Is Pogue still on the radar?
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 9:26:25 PM)
I do not believe Pogue to Ohio State is very realistic. He certainly didn't help himself out in New Jersey last week.

How many more scholarships can tOSU offer this year and how many do you think they will?
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 9:26:46 PM)
buckeyevol asks about the number of scholarships remaining....
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 9:26:57 PM)
currently there are seven available, but there will be only five, maybe six used
hondo (Jul 12, 2005 9:27:35 PM)
Kyle, what happened to Mayo in the last tournament? I read somewhere he didn't play well.
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 9:27:59 PM)
He played real well at the Reebok ABCD Camp until the last day or so. Then Mike Conley and Paul Harris both got the best of him.
drderm (Jul 12, 2005 9:28:06 PM)
So Kyle, do you think they are done with 2006 if they get Ramar or do you think they keep after Young possibly?
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 9:28:27 PM)
They will keep on Young I believe, but I don't see them chasing anyone else if they pull in Morgan

I know the schedule is not out yet but based on who has been mentioned like Va Tech in ACC/Big10 Challange and the conference schedule how do you think the team will do this year?
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 9:28:59 PM)
buckeyevol asks about my expectation for how the team will do based on what we know about the schedule...
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 9:30:15 PM)
With a home game against LSU confirmed, as well as trips to Iowa State and St. Joseph's, it seems there are challenging, but very winnable games this season. I think the conference schedule looks favorable. Putting two and two together and given my expectation for this team, I would tentatively expect 22 or 23 wins. I said 21 last year and missed by one, so hopefully I have the same track record again ;)
Guest (Jul 12, 2005 9:30:37 PM)
It sounds odd to think about 07, but Dallas L. and K.K seem like two strong possibilities...but they are4/5 and 3/4/5. It would seem a 2/3 would be a key to this class also, but is Cook and Lighty going to keep some away. Do you know if Matta and Co. have prioritized yet for that position (assuming I am right)?
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 9:30:59 PM)
Saginaw asks about whether they have prioritized a 2/3 for the 2007 class or not...
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 9:31:48 PM)
I think they have honed in on several guys for the 2/3 position such as (Dante) Jackson, (Rakim) Sanders, Robbie Hummel, and if he opens things up, Jon Diebler.
woodster (Jul 12, 2005 9:31:57 PM)
kyle, let's assume osu gets Lauderdale and Koufos, what guards, other than Gordon, are a real possibility.
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 9:33:09 PM)
I don't believe Gordon is a real possibility any longer. He realizes there are a whole lot of guards coming in, and while Cook could possibly be gone after a year, he still has seemingly eliminated Ohio State for now. That could change, but don't expect it. I think Hummel and Sanders are possibilities.
Wasa (Jul 12, 2005 9:33:14 PM)
Have you seen Mayes and Bell play in Worthington league this Summer? If so, how did they look?
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 9:34:53 PM)
Saw them a couple of times, and came away pretty impressed. Bell won't be a star, but he looks like he has enough to work with and contribute. Did well on the boards, which is something that he has been criticized about at times. Mayes, on the other hand, was nothing short of awesome. I know there's the old "it's only summer league" line, but regardless of the infamous Billings performances, Mayes can undoubtedly play and summer league or not, he will really help Ohio State.
MJ (Jul 12, 2005 9:35:03 PM)
Who do you really see as a one-and-done from the 2006 recruiting class? Could this hurt the overall balance of the team?
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 9:35:42 PM)
I don't feel any of them will be one and done, but Cook I believe is the biggest possibility to leave after one season. I really believe Oden will be around a couple of years, and probably Cook too

Kyle - why is Bill Walker hating on TOSU ?
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 9:36:23 PM)
ODOGG asks why Bill Walker came across as being against Ohio State....
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 9:36:59 PM)
My best guess is that it's probably a lack of his ego being stroked. Otherwise, it's simply about depth charts.
londonbuck (Jul 12, 2005 9:37:07 PM)
It seems as though Raymar Morgan will be # 5 in this class. Do we get Young or Macklin as #6?????
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 9:37:43 PM)
If Morgan is the fifth, Young is probably the only other possibility. I don't think they would take Morgan and Macklin both, but stranger things have happened.
wigmon (Jul 12, 2005 9:37:52 PM)
Have we lost interest (or vice versa) in Willie Walker? Seems with the amount of guards we will have graduating the next 2 years and the possibility of Cook leaving early that another guard might be a good pickup, unless we feel pretty good about some '07 guards.
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 9:38:27 PM)
I don't really think it was a loss of interest, as much as they just didn't want to take a combo guard in this class. They do feel comfortable with where they stand on several 2007 guards, however.
Guest (Jul 12, 2005 9:38:35 PM)
Kyle- how is Yancey Gates progressing and how does TOSU stand with him.
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 9:39:00 PM)
The question from ODOGG once again is about Yancey Gates' development, and where Ohio State sits with him....
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 9:39:57 PM)
He is jekyl and hyde in how he plays. If he consistently isn't afraid to score down inside and mix it up, he's going to be a complete player. Ohio State is in good shape with him, and I believe Cincinnati is the other early factor.
IndyBucksFan (Jul 12, 2005 9:40:01 PM)
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 9:40:56 PM)
Sanders is 6-4 from Barrington, RI. He has had Ohio State interest since the spring, but playing with Cook, Conley, and Oden on the Sonics team at Reebok ABCD really sparked it back up. I liked the kid as a shooter. I think Providence leads with Ohio State second

Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 9:41:37 PM)
The question is whether OSU has any chance to get back in for Gordon....
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 9:41:48 PM)
Yes, but highly unlikely in my opinion
dan (Jul 12, 2005 9:42:02 PM)
Any word on why Terwilliger did not play more his freshman year? Were the coaches disappointed with his progress?
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 9:42:41 PM)
Early on, yes. However, late in the year the coaches were reportedly very happy with how he progressed in practice, and by then it was simply that they liked what Marcinchick was giving, and wanted to continue playing him as a senior.

Kyle - what do you know about Clark Kellogg's son and what year is he?
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 9:42:55 PM)
The question is about Clark Kellogg's son...
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 9:43:48 PM)
Alex Kellogg is a 6-5 forward from Columbus Desales. Alex really isn't a major prospect right now. As you would expect, he's a disciplined kid with fundamentals, but limited ball skills. Of course, he's expected to grow a lot more and become more of a 4/5
Guest (Jul 12, 2005 9:44:16 PM)
I think the staff needs to calculate the loss of 1 or 2 grants with the NCAA hammer for 06-07...
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 9:44:37 PM)
A comment was made that the Ohio State staff should anticipate not having a full host of scholarships the next few years....
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 9:45:17 PM)
The staff is well aware of that possibility. They will likely lose one (1) scholarship for one or two years. Given they have been one short for the past two years, and will remain that way if they only sign 5 or 6 this fall, there's no issues there.
land2088 (Jul 12, 2005 9:45:29 PM)
Was their still a lot of buzz about Ohio State at the camp this weekend, with the commitments being pretty fresh?
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 9:45:59 PM)
Naturally coaches, players, and reporters alike were still buzzing about the class. There are few who aren't impressed
IndyBucksFan (Jul 12, 2005 9:46:06 PM)
Many of the Hoosier fans around here think IU is going to fire Davis and that they will set their eyes on Matta. Any chance that Matta would even entertain the IU job. He has a much better situation in Columbus (Davis would even agree with that).
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 9:47:42 PM)
If there's any college that Matta could leave for, it probably would be Indiana. But that being said, he just won't leave from Ohio State to Indiana right now, and why would he want to? When you're in the middle of putting together what he's got right now, it would hard to fathom replicating this anywhere so easily. Ten years from now, you never know... but as of this moment, he would not leave although Indiana was his dream job so to speak.
drderm (Jul 12, 2005 9:47:54 PM)
When people were talking about a player that had second thoughts on a commitment, besides Deibler in NW Oh, there is also a possibility of Nate Miles...

That is correct. There are many that do not expect Miles to end up at Xavier.

Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 9:48:56 PM)
Yes, but I believe their chances are already hurt as teams have begun hammering the PT issue to Young
BuckAnnArbor (Jul 12, 2005 9:49:03 PM)
Kyle, any word or idea as to when the NCAA will finalize everything in terms of sanctions, banners taken, scholarships, etc.? Just would like to finally put an end to all the speculation!
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 9:50:06 PM)
Ohio State is set to have a response to the NCAA any time now (by July 26th for sure), and at that time they might well recommend further sanctions such as removing banners, records, returning monies, and maybe self-imposing a scholarship reduction. The NCAA hearing is likely to be in September of this fall to make it all official.
wigmon (Jul 12, 2005 9:50:16 PM)
Heard anything new on the NCAA investigation? I think we all expect to lose the banners and give up cash from the Boban days, and maybe a scholarship or two for the next couple of years. Do you think there will be any surprises (another post season ban) in what the administration and the NCAA might give OSU in the way of penalties?
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 9:50:59 PM)
As i've said, I think one scholarship lost for one or two additional seasons (counting this past year or this upcoming year, either one), and then the removal of banners and records.

Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 9:51:17 PM)
The question is how long I expect everyone in the 06 class to stay...
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 9:51:32 PM)
Cook and Oden one or two years, Lighty three or four, and Conley three or four
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 9:51:41 PM)
Morgan would be a four year player if he joins the class

Please compare Foster versus Mayes ! Do they both play at the same time ?
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 9:52:44 PM)
If Mayes plays the point, they will be on the court at the same time sometimes. Foster and Mayes are quite different. Foster is more of a shooter and a blue collar kid, Mayes is more of a playmaker who will hit his open shots, but will often penetrate as well.

To answer a question about realistic expectations for this season...
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 10:01:04 PM)
22 to 25 wins is very realistic, finishing 3rd to 5th in the Big Ten, an NCAA appearance, and a possible run with 2 or 3 wins
wigmon (Jul 12, 2005 10:01:13 PM)

Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 10:02:20 PM)
If he focuses on basketball, Chichester could very well have a good career. However, as a 2-way player, I don't expect very much of him. He's a very good player with a ton of talent and potential, but he's not yet polished, and without devoting himself year round to hoops, I don't think he will develop enough to contribute a lot.

Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 10:03:42 PM)
it's my belief he would have to be the "6th" member, and the chances are fading
OSUScooter (Jul 12, 2005 10:03:54 PM)
Kyle, Daquean Cook's passing ability is listed as a weakness in the Scout.com database, but from what I have seen he is a pretty good passer. What do you think?
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 10:05:14 PM)
I think you make up a great point, and I too think his passing is actually a strength. In a half court set, he doesn't do anything fancy with the pass, but in the open floor his passing is above average
Guest (Jul 12, 2005 10:05:20 PM)
What pos. does Cook generally play? He looks like a three but could be a two I think also.
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 10:05:32 PM)
MRH90 asks what position Cook plays the most.
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 10:05:43 PM)
He is mostly a two guard, but he's capable of playing wing equally
mrbuckeye (Jul 12, 2005 10:05:49 PM)
what year does Alex Kellogg grad?
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 10:05:55 PM)
Alex Kellogg is class of 2007
IndyBucksFan (Jul 12, 2005 10:06:01 PM)
What's the latest on Raymar Smith?
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 10:06:27 PM)
Ramar Smith will be playing in Philadelphia next year for high school, and he's no longer a factor with Ohio State. I expect him to end up at Connecticut
bw1954 (Jul 12, 2005 10:06:33 PM)
It is unbelieveable how far the BBprogram has come under Matta in one year . Whats your thoughts for 06 and 07 as far as records . Can we make a run for the Final 4 Odens first year ?
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 10:07:02 PM)
Sure, I think with Mayes and Lewis still at Ohio State, a final four run isn't out of the question. A lot will depend on finding a few others to step up
wigmon (Jul 12, 2005 10:07:50 PM)
Any guess on who you may think the starting 5 may be this year? Or maybe a better question is who do you think will be on the floor at the end of the game (Mayes/Butler, Lewis/Foster, Syl/Harris)?
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 10:08:47 PM)
Dials is a given, and I expect Sylvester to start at the four. Right now it's a tossup between Lewis and Sullinger at wing, but if Mayes plays point over Butler instead of two (they want him off the ball), I could see Lewis starting at the two
cjbucksindiana (Jul 12, 2005 10:09:13 PM)

no, he can sign the 5 or 6 he wants to sign

Hey Kyle, i was wondering if u think that Morgans or Conleys rankings are going to chnage after their preformances at thhe camps??
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 10:09:47 PM)
The question was asked about the rankings of Conley or Morgan and whether they will change after the camps...
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 10:10:31 PM)
Conley could go up a little bit, especially at his position where he's currently fourth. Morgan will stay right where he is. I just spoke with Dave Telep about this today, and he feels they bumped him up to 33 on a leap of faith based on recent progress, and they were proven right at Nike. So that's where he will stay
cjbucksindiana (Jul 12, 2005 10:10:45 PM)
please tell me where offer to morgan leaves tucker. and please compare the two
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 10:11:47 PM)
I have not really seen Tucker, but knowing what I know of him compared to Morgan, I would take Morgan in a heartbeat for a true four. Morgan is tough, athletic, and polished... Tucker is skilled, but not real physical, and somewhat raw
jantoniorules (Jul 12, 2005 10:11:57 PM)
Do you expect Butler to be much improved over last year?
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 10:12:22 PM)
I don't know what to expect with Butler. I feel his shot will be much better than last year, but as far as handling the ball, I don't know what to expect
wigmon (Jul 12, 2005 10:12:40 PM)
Oden gets the most hype (deservedly so), but I think Conley may be the key to this class. I feel he may be the best pure PG in this '06 class (defense, distributing the ball, court presence). Just curious what your thoughts are on Conley versus Lawson/Collins/Crittenton/Augustin.
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 10:13:41 PM)
In terms of flash and certain facets of basketball, most of those guys are either quicker, stronger, better shooters, or just simply more flashy, but Conley is the complete package, and he always is under control. He's a true floor leader, and I think he's the best overall point guard in terms of what you expect out of the position.
Jim (Jul 12, 2005 10:13:49 PM)
If Morgan is the fifth member of the recruiting class, would all 5 freshmen start in 2006?
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 10:14:33 PM)
No. Oden is the only guy guaranteed to start immediately, although any of the five will have a shot. Cook will also probably start, and I can see Conley playing a lot of minutes right away as well Lighty and Morgan
buckeyevol (Jul 12, 2005 10:14:46 PM)
Has there been any talk of tOSU/Cincy matchup? I know there was talk when Matta first took over and they said maybe a few years down the road. Any new Developments there with the new AD?
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 10:15:36 PM)
nothing has been set up yet, but If that gets done for 2006, no serious progress will be made until later in the year
Guest (Jul 12, 2005 10:15:45 PM)
Morgan should move into the top 25 overall after his NIKE camp, don't you think?
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 10:16:08 PM)
Question from UAbuck about whether Morgan should move into the top 25 after Nike camp....
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 10:16:46 PM)
My feeling is that Morgan is very good, but he's not an elite player per se. I think top 20 to 25 kids are game changers, and Morgan isn't quite that... although close. I think Scout has him perfectly placed now
MBuck37 (Jul 12, 2005 10:17:16 PM)
Please forgive me if this has been asked I just joined the discussion...Do you think we will end up with the #1 recriuting Class in the Country when it's all said and done....Thanks...GO BUCKS
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 10:17:50 PM)
Unless North Carolina really cleans up with the top 10 prospects they are chasing, Ohio State will have the number-one spot. North Carolina could pass them, but it would take an awful lot
IndyBucksFan (Jul 12, 2005 10:17:59 PM)
What would you consider a 'successful season' when the '06 class comes in? Elite 8? Final Four?
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 10:19:00 PM)
With relying on a freshmen class, I would say a Big Ten championship or second place finish, and at worst a sweet sixteen or elite eight appearance.
wigmon (Jul 12, 2005 10:19:09 PM)
This is not meant as a knock on Fuss or Stockman, but what kind of improvement do you see Lewis and Mayes providing us over these 2.
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 10:19:24 PM)
Worlds of improvement. Both are much better, consistent scorers...
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 10:19:36 PM)
Both are professional basketball type of talents and much more athletic,
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 10:19:48 PM)
and both play much more under control and play pretty smart
MBuck37 (Jul 12, 2005 10:19:58 PM)
Is it realistic to hope that we will have Greg Oden a minimum of 2yrs...
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 10:20:11 PM)
Two years is where you should keep the bar for now.

Was there any chance the OSU staff offered Chichester a scholarship to play football knowing he would contribute to basketball as well? Or were they unaware he would play basketball and offered him strictly based on his football talent?
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 10:20:40 PM)
The question was whether the OSU football staff knew Chichester would play both sports when he was offered...
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 10:20:48 PM)
the answer to that question is yes, they knew ahead of time
tumdogg (Jul 12, 2005 10:20:57 PM)
Who are some of the underrated players in ohio 2006 class?
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 10:21:37 PM)
Heath White doesn't get near enough credit. Adrian Graves is a pretty good basketball player. I also think Chris Knight, the prep school (former 2005 classification) is a guy that flies under the radar.
BuckeyeSteve (Jul 12, 2005 10:21:57 PM)
Sylvester's game-winner against Illinois has to be considered one of the greatest shots in OSU hoops history, both for the win against an undefeated team, but also for the effect it had on recruiting..Cook, etc. What are some other great shots?
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 10:23:29 PM)
I remember the Jamie Skelton 3-pointer to beat Indiana when they were #1 in the country in 1993. Also two years prior, the baseline shot by Jim Jackson in that double OT thriller against the Hoosiers was big. I remember Scoonie Penn making a key three pointer late in the comeback against Auburn in 1999 that helped come back from a 6-point defiicit with three minutes to go. Anything before 1990 is a little too early for me ;)
mikedavis (Jul 12, 2005 10:23:49 PM)
Latest on Dante Jackson of Greenfield? Watched him torch Linden McKinley this year. I think OSU is missing the boat if they don't offer this kid.
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 10:24:10 PM)
He brings a lot to the table, but he's still raw in some respects. He's got a shot to get offered, but needs to play well in Vegas
IndyBucksFan (Jul 12, 2005 10:24:33 PM)
What do think of Katz's 'bubble team' statement about '05 team? I see OSU finishing 2nd or 3rd.
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 10:24:57 PM)
I think Ohio State will find itself squarely in the field. Katz is pretty good as a reporter, but he's not a Jay Bilas or Clark Kellogg
MBuck37 (Jul 12, 2005 10:24:59 PM)
Will OJ Mayo go to College or the NBA(or will he be old enough by the new NBA Standards) if he chooses College do we (OSU) have a legitimate chance at landing for 2007?
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 10:25:34 PM)
Mayo will probably go to college, but sitting out a year or going to prep school for a year isn't out of the question. And for your second part, no, he's not a realistic possibility

What are the chances that we would have the same outstanding BB class if the new NBA rule wasn't made?
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 10:26:00 PM)
The question is what are the chances of having the same class without the NBA rule...
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 10:26:14 PM)
people would disagree with me in some cases, but I would say there was almost as good of a chance
mrbuckeye (Jul 12, 2005 10:26:39 PM)
Kyle, Always like getting the inside information from you and I understand all the garbage you get for giving us this information. What nugget can you give us that we hasn't been floating around.
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 10:27:43 PM)
I don't want to get specific, but there are a lot of players over the next two years that really would love to play for Ohio State, and it might not take much for that to happen with a couple of these guys. Let's just say if Thad Matta continues whatever he's doing, the cupboard will be stocked up for a while
mikedavis (Jul 12, 2005 10:28:01 PM)
Kyle: Do you think BJ Mullen will stay at Harvest Prep (D4 school) or will he transfer to a D1 school to improve his game?
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 10:28:22 PM)
I believe he will stay at Harvest Prep. They have great facilities, they have good young players, and they are stacking up their schedule more and more
CELTICBUCK (Jul 12, 2005 10:28:34 PM)
Kyle, Just joining so I apologize in advance if this is repititious, your sense when/if Raymar will verbal; do we still have a shot at the two top ten PFs; do you think Koufas(sp?) will come on board with Oden here?
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 10:28:55 PM)
If he doesnt get things over with by the first of next week, I would expect him to take a month or two and take some official visits
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 10:29:13 PM)
Koufos won't be influenced negatively by Oden because he will be able to play the three or four in college
Jim (Jul 12, 2005 10:29:22 PM)
Do you think this recruiting class could be considered one of the greatest ever?
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 10:29:54 PM)
I think you can comfortably call it the best in the last decade since the Fab 5. One of the best ever? Perhaps, but that's a tough argument
IndyBucksFan (Jul 12, 2005 10:30:09 PM)
Has the December 8th game between LN (Oden and Conley) and Dunbar (Cook) been finalized? I've heard conflicting reports. If so- come on out to Indy all you Buckeye fans and chear on the future of OSU basketball.
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 10:30:26 PM)
I believe it is set, but I will find out for sure. Last I heard, it was going to be in the Conseco Fieldhouse and on ESPN
BuckeyeSteve (Jul 12, 2005 10:30:35 PM)
I've seen reports of OJ Mayo not listing OSU, but what about his teammates--Walker and Ellis--I think that's his name?
Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 10:30:40 PM)
None of the three are listing Ohio State
MBuck37 (Jul 12, 2005 10:30:47 PM)

Mayes could be categorized as that.
MBuck37 (Jul 12, 2005 10:31:07 PM)

Kyle S. Lamb (Jul 12, 2005 10:31:19 PM)
