OSU Releases Men's Basketball Schedule

Ohio State has announced its full men's basketball schedule for 2005-06. The slate includes nonconference games against the likes of Virginia Tech, St. Joseph's, LSU and Iowa State.

Ohio State released its 2005-06 men's basketball schedule today. The Big Ten portion of the slate had been announced several weeks ago.

Some times and television assignments for some nonconference games still need to be resolved.

Coach Thad Matta returns five starters from last year's team that went 20-12 in his debut season with the Buckeyes. Here is the release from OSU on the men's basketball schedule:

Ohio State will appear on national television at least eight times during the 2005-06 men's basketball season, including four games on CBS Sports.

Ohio State released its men's schedule Tuesday. The season opener (game time is to be determined) is against Chicago State Nov. 20. The first of two public exhibition games will be played Nov. 6 vs. Ashland. The second will be held Nov. 13 vs. Findlay. Both exhibition games will begin at 2 p.m. in Value City Arena.

Thad Matta, in his second year at Ohio State, looks forward to getting the season underway.

"We are excited about the schedule this year," Matta said. "There are some great challenges during both the non-conference and Big Ten season. We have a rare opportunity to play at the historic Palestra against St. Joseph's in Philadelphia. Games against Iowa State, a Top 25 caliber team, away from Columbus and then LSU at home will be exciting for our team. The Big Ten will be as good as it's been in a long time."

Home games against Louisiana State and Virginia Tech, in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge, along with neutral-site contests vs. St. Joseph's and Iowa State highlight the non-conference schedule. The LSU game is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start on New Year's Eve. The Virginia Tech game will be televised by ESPN2 Nov. 28. It's the lone contest of the 11-game Challenge played the Monday after Thanksgiving. The remaining games will be held Nov. 29-30.

Ohio State ends its two-game series with St. Joseph's Dec. 10 at the Palestra on the University of Pennsylvania campus. That game time has not been determined with television pending as well. The Iowa State game will be played in Des Moines, Iowa, at Wells Fargo Arena Dec. 17. The Cyclones will return the game in 2006-07 at VCA.

Butler also will visit Ohio State in the first of a four-game series with the Bulldogs that will alternate sites each of the next four years. Ohio State will meet Butler for the 38th time in the series Nov. 22.

Ohio State will appear on CBS at least four times during the regular season, three of those will be contested in Columbus. The games at Indiana Jan. 7 and at home vs. Michigan State (Jan. 15), Illinois (Feb. 12) and Michigan (Feb. 25) will be televised nationally to CBS audiences.

Ohio State will play a minimum of nine games vs. seven teams that played in the 2005 NCAA Tournament, which includes the Feb. 12 matchup vs. Illinois, the runner-up in the NCAA tournament a year ago. The only game between the Illini and Ohio State will be set in Columbus, the site of Ohio State's 65-64 upset win over the No. 1-ranked Illini a year ago in the regular-season finale. The Buckeyes also will play three games vs. 2005 postseason NIT teams, including the contest vs. St. Joseph's, the NIT runner up in 2005.

Ohio State will face Illinois, Indiana, Iowa and Minnesota just once this year with the Illini and Golden Gophers traveling to Columbus. Ohio State plays at Indiana and Iowa this year.

The television schedule for the majority of the non-conference games is not complete and will be released at a later date.
