Gibson Brings The Heat (W/Video)

Euclid (Oh.) linebacker Thaddeus Gibson has been putting up numbers on the field and pressure on quarterbacks so far this season. We were on hand to check out Gibson in person against Bedford (Oh.) on Friday night, and he didn't disappoint, putting up two sacks and at least ten tackles. After the game, Gibson discussed his performance and gave a recruiting update as well. Click here to read the update and also check out video footage of Gibson from Friday's game.

Euclid linebacker Thaddeus Gibson is considered one of the top five prospects in the state by Ohio High magazine and also a national top-100 prospect according to

Gibson (6-3, 205, 4.5) had two sacks and at least 10 tackles in a dramatic 10-7 win at Bedford last Friday.

"That was defense," said Gibson, who is ranked as the nation's No. 6 linebacker and No. 46 prospect overall. "During the week, the coaches were saying this was a must-win game. We had to get all 11 hats on the ball, and that's what we did tonight. We got it done."

Gibson was useful as a pass rusher, coverage man in the flat and run stopper.

"Whatever they ask me to do, I'm all for it. If it's kicking, throwing, I don't care," Gibson said. "Anything for the team."

The hard hitting Gibson delivered quite a blow to the Bedford quarterback on one play.

"If I hit him once hard, he'll be scared to sit back there for very long," he said. "Hopefully, he'll throw it somewhere where we want it to be just to get it off in the nick of time."

The win evened Euclid's record at 2-2.

"This win tonight made a statement that we've got it in us," he said. "We just need to keep it going."

Euclid coach Mike Rezzolla talked about what makes Gibson special.

"He gives us something that probably 99.9 percent of the teams don't have," Rezzolla said. "He gives us a guy with some size and some unbelievable speed. The quickness is unbelievable. They have to account for him on every play. He's a headache for an offense."

Gibson has yet to schedule any official visits, although he has been in touch with the Ohio State staff.

"I talked to Coach Fickell a week ago," Gibson said. "He wants me to come down during the month of November for an official visit.

"I would say right now it's between Ohio State, Iowa, Michigan, Miami (Fla.) and Penn State."

Gibson is in no hurry to make a decision, saying, "It's all Euclid football right now."

Smith Also Impressive

Euclid boasts another standout in Darius Smith, brother of OSU tight end Brandon Smith.

Darius Smith (6-4, 205) has attended several OSU games, obviously, to see his brother in action. He, too, was impressive against Bedford.

"Darius does a nice job," Rezzolla said. "He has about the same dimensions as Thaddeus. Sometimes we get him rushing from the other side, and he gives us a nice 1-2 punch."
