Hello! Duane is here
nbuck (Apr 25, 2002 8:14:47 PM)
duane is crable a want or need ?
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 8:15:13 PM)
Crable is a want
Marysville Buck-I (Apr 25, 2002 8:16:33 PM)
Duane is Chris Roberts doing anything with OFS now? I know he just had a littl Buckeye.
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 8:17:54 PM)
Chris is still a part of OFS.
NapervilleBuck (Apr 25, 2002 8:17:35 PM)
Duane....Joel Holler...OL from PA....do you know anything about him??
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 8:18:31 PM)
Holler is one of the top 20 OLs in the country. Some may rate him higher.
Kirk L. (Apr 25, 2002 8:18:35 PM)
I just saw that update on Holler. It was good to see he is interested in OSU. He's one of PA's top overall players.
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 8:18:46 PM)
Sounds like Holler is genuinely interested too.
jedaharris (Apr 25, 2002 8:18:17 PM)
When they keep talking about more depth on the OL this year are they really thinking that the freshmen can play right away or are they just being politically correct?
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 8:19:50 PM)
I look at all the names I don't recognize on the scarlet and gray teams for the spring game on the OL and I think they almost have to play.
bucsrock (Apr 25, 2002 8:19:05 PM)
we need at least 3-4 more ol
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 8:20:29 PM)
I can't see room for 4 OLs though I would love to see as many as 5 again. I think there are 3 for this class.
NapervilleBuck (Apr 25, 2002 8:19:18 PM)
Duane......is this going to be a year where we search far and wide for top-notch OL since we seem to be lacking stud talent in Ohio?
(Apr 25, 2002 8:21:25 PM)
I think it will depend on camp how aggressively the Buckeyes go out of state for talent on the OL.
nbuck (Apr 25, 2002 8:19:22 PM)
do you expect louis irizarry to verbal by the end of may?
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 8:22:20 PM)
I see Irizarry verballing before the season. It could be late May or early June. I am only completely confident he will make his decision by the time school starts.
Marysville Buck-I (Apr 25, 2002 8:19:49 PM)
Sounds like we will get a good look from the River Rouge kid
NapervilleBuck (Apr 25, 2002 8:21:05 PM)
Marysville.....Jerry Sevin is the kid from RR, LA.......
Marysville Buck-I (Apr 25, 2002 8:21:36 PM)
Yeah...thanks Nape....from reading about him, he sounds like one strong SOB
george (Apr 25, 2002 8:20:27 PM)
do you see any players that OSU wants going somewhere else for sure yet?
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 8:23:06 PM)
Nobody yet that I am sure is going out of state. I am not even so sure of Crable like so many others are.
Marysville Buck-I (Apr 25, 2002 8:21:00 PM)
Duane, have you been able to confirm an offer to Marcel Frost?
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 8:23:33 PM)
No offer to Frost yet.
bucsrock (Apr 25, 2002 8:21:08 PM)
who will be the surprise player from ohio who has big senior year
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 8:24:52 PM)
Surprise player from Ohio? I think Snow from Cincy North College Hills could be a big surprise and I would say Dan Henderson could be this years Simms.
NapervilleBuck (Apr 25, 2002 8:22:19 PM)
LSU is the team to beat for him, Marysville....but who would you choose? Tress or Sabin?
Marysville Buck-I (Apr 25, 2002 8:23:30 PM)
Funny, I knew Tommy Caruso for a brief period of time. Caruso played backup to Sean Gayle at OSU when Saben was the DB coach here. He despised Saben and thought he was a bad coach. Now look at him.
jedaharris (Apr 25, 2002 8:23:25 PM)
Duane, any new tidbits on kids leaning OSU's way?
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 8:25:36 PM)
I feel like Burgess, Irizarry and Patterson are the most heavy Buckeye leans of the offers.
brudge152 (Apr 25, 2002 8:23:36 PM)
A big concern for me is the OL, we have to have a cohesive group to be competitive against the stronger teams next yr
brudge152 (Apr 25, 2002 8:23:57 PM)
Our D will keep us in every game i Believe
nbuck (Apr 25, 2002 8:24:05 PM)
is ohio state going after only tackles this year who does that leave out of the mix for offers?
Kirk L. (Apr 25, 2002 8:24:46 PM)
The OL I think won't be great, but once the season starts, it will be ok... not quite panic mode
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 8:26:19 PM)
I am concerned about the injuries that have kept the OL from playing together most of spring.
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 8:27:45 PM)
I only see 2 tackles for sure that I think are odds on for offers, Pribula and Maizel. I really like Henderson but he looks more like a guard. I still think he has a good shot at an offer. Ty Hall is another that is really moving up the rankings.
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 8:28:44 PM)
I think Henderson is the only player who is probably an inside player who I think has a chance at an offer.
bucsrock (Apr 25, 2002 8:25:59 PM)
how about cotton
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 8:29:41 PM)
Cotton's family is definitely pro-Ohio State and coach Brophy is being even handed so he is not really pumping Miami at him.
george (Apr 25, 2002 8:26:03 PM)
what about Boeckman?
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 8:30:56 PM)
I don't know what to say about Boeckman. I have not heard anything that makes me wonder if he is not a sure Buckeye but I thought he would have verballed by now. He is now talking about other visits.
Marysville Buck-I (Apr 25, 2002 8:26:15 PM)
Duane, did you watch tape of Bam Childress in H.S.? It must have been ridiculous. I mean, he's making some athletic DB's look silly. The practice I went to (first Saturday), Childress couldn't be covered and he caught everything.
(Apr 25, 2002 8:31:26 PM)
Childress is as good an open field runner as I have ever seen in high school. He was amazing.
Hoosier Buck (Apr 25, 2002 8:26:55 PM)
We HAVE to find PT for Bam!
Marysville Buck-I (Apr 25, 2002 8:27:06 PM)
bucsrock (Apr 25, 2002 8:27:28 PM)
injuries have hurt this spring
NapervilleBuck (Apr 25, 2002 8:27:33 PM)
Duane.....you mentioned Brian Williamson(WR) on the other board....got any particulars on him(School, size, speed)?
Marysville Buck-I (Apr 25, 2002 8:28:11 PM)
One answer Nape....Thomas Worthington High School
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 8:32:00 PM)
Williamson is 6-3, 200 and ran a 4.5 on that slow track at MSU. He is from Thomas Worthington.
bucsrock (Apr 25, 2002 8:28:21 PM)
sounds like hall wants to be buckeye
NapervilleBuck (Apr 25, 2002 8:29:33 PM)
jedaharris (Apr 25, 2002 8:29:05 PM)
Any chance Green moves over to help out the offensive line?
Marysville Buck-I (Apr 25, 2002 8:29:46 PM)
Greene has been making major progress on the D-line.
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 8:32:54 PM)
I have always believed Green would end up on the OL but that hasn't happened yet.
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 8:35:40 PM)
I heard the same thing about Greene marysville Buck=I.
nbuck (Apr 25, 2002 8:30:07 PM)
do the bucks take quinn and boeckman if transfers occur?
Marysville Buck-I (Apr 25, 2002 8:31:13 PM)
Nbuck, don't know if the comment was BS, but I know it was said. A coach at OSU has recently told Brady Quinn that they may offer if Boeckman doesn't commit in the near future.
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 8:33:22 PM)
Very interesting about Quinn. I love him.
NapervilleBuck (Apr 25, 2002 8:31:39 PM)
Duane....how difficult is it going to be to keep Tribble and Thatcher from the grasp of Tennessee?
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 8:34:34 PM)
I think it is going to be very difficult to keep them out of Tennessee. There are not enough offers for both I don't think. Tribble enjoyed PSU and his teammate, Donnie Johnson, is a Nittany Lion. Don't forget that.
Hoosier Buck (Apr 25, 2002 8:33:42 PM)
How does the kick return team blocking look? We need to spring Mo/Bam/ or JaJa loose on some returns.
nbuck (Apr 25, 2002 8:34:00 PM)
enough to be satisfied with either boeckman or quinn?
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 8:37:33 PM)
I don't know if there is room for 2 QBs in this class so I don't know if taking both Boeckman and Quinn is feasible. Take another QB or another OL?
NapervilleBuck (Apr 25, 2002 8:35:48 PM)
Is NEB in the mix for Thatcher? Also........if you had to choose two of these four, whom do you take? Tribble, Thatcher, Hiley, Whitner.
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 8:38:57 PM)
Nebraska is not in it for Thatcher?
nbuck (Apr 25, 2002 8:36:18 PM)
if terrance graves is offered what position will he be playing?
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 8:40:49 PM)
Graves could play either RB or safety. he is really underrated. Great vision and great feet. Excellent out of the backfield too.
jedaharris (Apr 25, 2002 8:36:34 PM)
Really enjoyed OFS. How are the other issues for this year different from the one that just came out?
NapervilleBuck (Apr 25, 2002 8:36:42 PM)
Tribble, Thatcher, Whitner, Hiley, Phillips......what 2 do you take?
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 8:39:41 PM)
I take Hiley and Whitner if I can only take 2.
beavercreekbuck (Apr 25, 2002 8:36:51 PM)
duane, do you know status of stirrup? What year would he be if eligible
george (Apr 25, 2002 8:37:30 PM)
is this going to be a problem every 4 years with limited ships?
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 8:43:34 PM)
No, this is just how it ended up with the scholarships. Some kids left early and others were redshirted and it threw things off.
bucsrock (Apr 25, 2002 8:39:09 PM)
which leads me to ask how important are camps compared to what they do on the field
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 8:41:39 PM)
Camps are hugely important. It is the one time they can look at the players doing exactly what they want them to do and against quality competition.
Marysville Buck-I (Apr 25, 2002 8:39:25 PM)
Anyone heard about Flydell's injury? Dinged up knee? Someone had mentioned that recently....that it has nagged him this spring. Can anyone confirm? With Mo Hall coming on strong, Flydell could find himself third fiddle, I would think.
(Apr 25, 2002 8:43:06 PM)
Marysville......Fly's injury is of the naggin' sort.....but with all the talent it wouldn't be hard to slip from #1 to #3....who know's?
jedaharris (Apr 25, 2002 8:44:08 PM)
Fly had a ruptured/bulging disc in the back. These are not easy to return from in a contact sport.
bucsrock (Apr 25, 2002 8:41:33 PM)
anyone else a little shocked by clarrets pick by seniors
jedaharris (Apr 25, 2002 8:41:59 PM)
I enjoy this format with about 4 streams of thought going - kind of like having dinner with my kids!
nbuck (Apr 25, 2002 8:42:05 PM)
how soon after the spring game should you hear rumblings about transfers?
jedaharris (Apr 25, 2002 8:43:01 PM)
I thought it was more interesting that they took Gamble first!
Marysville Buck-I (Apr 25, 2002 8:44:29 PM)
Tim Spencer gave the suggestion to draft Recce first. He also is going to play on several special teams, so that could have added to reasoning.
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 8:46:54 PM)
I think Flydell may already be # 3. He was picked # 3 and most who were at practice often enough to form a judgment felt like Hall was # 2 and had a great spring.
Marysville Buck-I (Apr 25, 2002 8:43:03 PM)
Duane, have you heard of a nephew (I believe...or maybe it was a cousin) of Orlando Pace? Freshmen, maybe? Someone was talking about him having some big upside if he gets his classwork in order.
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 8:44:14 PM)
I have heard about Paces nephew. His coach really doesn't want to talk about him yet.
bucsrock (Apr 25, 2002 8:43:31 PM)
have not heard anything but gut feeling tells me chattams wil leave
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 8:45:53 PM)
I wonder about Chattams. I am hearing nothing about him. He seems buried at WR and doesn't want to play CB. Doesn't sound good.
NapervilleBuck (Apr 25, 2002 8:43:50 PM)
Duane...have you seen film of Santonio Holmes yet? Thoughts?
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 8:44:42 PM)
Holmes is a player. I just don't know of he can play right away with this depth.
jedaharris (Apr 25, 2002 8:46:03 PM)
I also thought it was very interesting that the other side cheered when Krenzel was chosen first.
bucsrock (Apr 25, 2002 8:47:47 PM)
i heard Spielman raving about hall and mo
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 8:48:30 PM)
Paces nephew was a freshman last year.
jedaharris (Apr 25, 2002 8:49:18 PM)
As easy as it is for RBs to get dinged up, I won't be surprise if at least 3 of them get significant time this year
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 8:49:56 PM)
Maybe early on but as the season goes along I could see finding a horse and riding him.
beavercreekbuck (Apr 25, 2002 8:49:41 PM)
any chance riley moves to safety or corner ? if i remember correctly he played wideout and defensiveback in high school
(Apr 25, 2002 8:51:28 PM)
I thought there would be a move by Riley but I don't see it happening until they are sure about Hall and Ross. Both of them have come up in the rumormill about transfers. I would be a little surprised to see both stay.
bucsrock (Apr 25, 2002 8:49:42 PM)
there is alot of talent at rb ,will they recruit any this year or slide on that position
NapervilleBuck (Apr 25, 2002 8:50:53 PM)
Duane........Lemming says Crable's a Buckeye lean.........UM board quoted him as saying it's UM...what say's you?
nbuck (Apr 25, 2002 8:50:57 PM)
duane how does it look for hiley and whitmer?
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 8:53:03 PM)
I think it looks really good for Hiley and Whitner. more sure of Hiley than Whitner.
bucsrock (Apr 25, 2002 8:51:20 PM)
i think clarret will be that horse power back will have a little better luck while line matures
NapervilleBuck (Apr 25, 2002 8:52:12 PM)
Duane....Ross and/or Hall transfering? Really??
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 8:55:03 PM)
There have always been rumors about Hall transferring. I think there is some merit in them. Ross is a little new and there is nothing more than strong speculation because he was looking like the heir apparent and now he may be # 3. I don't know how he will take to that. If Hall is # 3 I think he would be a good candidate for a transfer. Whichever one is # 3 has to be odds-on to leave.
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 8:52:23 PM)
I think Crable is as undecided as undecided can get. I have not heard anything that makes me believe he is a lean one way or the other.
jedaharris (Apr 25, 2002 8:53:44 PM)
Who is the main competition for Whitner?
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 8:55:50 PM)
Whitner likes the warm weather.
beavercreekbuck (Apr 25, 2002 8:53:58 PM)
does pribula or maizel compare favorably with datish as high school players?
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 8:56:13 PM)
Pribula and Maizel are not as advanced or as athletic as Datish.
NapervilleBuck (Apr 25, 2002 8:56:32 PM)
Duane...I think the fact that Hall has shown up ready to rumble this spring disspells that rumor......if anyone is going to transfer from that class it'll be Chattams. Agree?
bucsrock (Apr 25, 2002 8:56:56 PM)
i agree to that ross will not like being num three and right now every thing i hear says hall looks great and he does have home run speed
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 8:57:38 PM)
I need to see a commitment from Ross should he feel like he is # 3. I really wonder how he would take that. Chattams is most likely to leave. It is not a secret that he is not happy.
Marysville Buck-I (Apr 25, 2002 8:58:20 PM)
Duane, don't know if you heard about Crable's comments to Rivals (I believe) a day or two ago, but he really embraced Michigan. Could that be just some hot air? I mean it was a Michigan guru he was talking to.
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 8:59:29 PM)
I wouldn't read too much into what Crable said. You want to hear what he says about Ohio State. The Michigan fans want to hear what he says about Michigan.
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 8:58:38 PM)
Someone asked about Stirrup. He is not on scholarship right now.
NapervilleBuck (Apr 25, 2002 8:58:39 PM)
With Holmes and Hall coming on board this summer, Chattams could fall deeper into the abyss, especially since JT likes big WRs
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 9:00:42 PM)
Chattams could fall deeper. Holmes is a real player. He is a little bigger and just as fast. Roy Hall is a man amongst boys. We may be talking about him redshirting. Roy is not.
beavercreekbuck (Apr 25, 2002 8:58:53 PM)
i wonder about britton as a transfer condidate. he seems to be regressing
NapervilleBuck (Apr 25, 2002 8:59:05 PM)
Good point, BCB
NapervilleBuck (Apr 25, 2002 8:59:24 PM)
He's had every opportunity to prove his worth and has yet to do it
Marysville Buck-I (Apr 25, 2002 8:59:43 PM)
Duane....gut feeling...who contributes first for OSU, Datish or Morris (for this question, let's assume Morris is eligible, even though it isn't a certainty.)
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 9:01:50 PM)
Datish. I have questions about Morris beyond the grades. Is he going to be in the right kind of shape? You know I am bothered by that 340 lbs he is carrying around.
NapervilleBuck (Apr 25, 2002 9:00:21 PM)
Duane...year in and year out Chicago produces some really nice talent. Why do you feel that we can't successfully recruit up here and who is the lead recruiter for Chicagoland?
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 9:03:05 PM)
Illinois has really been down for some time. Ohio State has not been as aggressive there. When I first starting following recruiting Illinois was a close second to Ohio for produing players in the midwest. Now it has dried up and for some time.
Marysville Buck-I (Apr 25, 2002 9:00:41 PM)
Anyone know if Britton is still very much slowed by that nagging groin injury? Kirk?
nbuck (Apr 25, 2002 9:01:17 PM)
duane do you think mike kudla will be a premier pass rusher in the big ten? he is as big almost as will smith now
bucsrock (Apr 25, 2002 9:01:30 PM)
keep forgetting about hall he is the real deal i hear
NapervilleBuck (Apr 25, 2002 9:01:31 PM)
That is a common denominator amongst these incoming frosh! I love it!! Attitude and confidence is half the battle!!!
(Apr 25, 2002 9:03:59 PM)
Kudla will be a great pass rusher and sooner than people think.
Marysville Buck-I (Apr 25, 2002 9:02:32 PM)
By looking at Morris, I'm not sure he could carry less than 330 (or at least not very easily)
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 9:04:45 PM)
Morris carries it well but he is still too big. Most of those who I know that saw him up close say he needs conditioning.
bucsrock (Apr 25, 2002 9:04:30 PM)
i tell ya these guys over 330 put a lot of stress on there joints its one thing to grow into 340 after your in school but 340 is not all muscle at 18
NapervilleBuck (Apr 25, 2002 9:04:53 PM)
Duane....will Pitcock immediately be in the 2-deep come August?
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 9:06:37 PM)
I think it deends on Darrion Scotts health and how much he will play DT in regard to Pitcock being in the 2-deep right away. Peterson is playing great in there and with Scott and Anderson there may be an option to redshirt him.
jedaharris (Apr 25, 2002 9:05:28 PM)
We had such a good class from New York - Will Smith's year. Any news on New York kids looking hard this year at OSU?
Marysville Buck-I (Apr 25, 2002 9:05:30 PM)
So what was the deal....the opposing team cheered when their oppenents drafted Krenzel in the S&G draft yesterday? I must have read it backwards the first time.
jedaharris (Apr 25, 2002 9:06:29 PM)
That is correct. The OPPONENTS cheered when Krenzel was picked first.
Marysville Buck-I (Apr 25, 2002 9:06:45 PM)
Jedaharris, I think I Perfection Harris has a little brother......Imperfection. :^)
NapervilleBuck (Apr 25, 2002 9:07:01 PM)
Is that the preferred way to go with Quinn P.?
NapervilleBuck (Apr 25, 2002 9:07:21 PM)
Duane.....Justin....play him or redshirt him?
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 9:10:37 PM)
I still see Zwick playing, or Troy Smith. Let me tell you something. I know 3 people that if I was at liberty to use their names in regard to how highly they think of Smith you would be glad you are sitting down.
Marysville Buck-I (Apr 25, 2002 9:07:37 PM)
That's disturbing about the Krenzel cheering
NapervilleBuck (Apr 25, 2002 9:06:20 PM)
Duane...how can I subscribe to OFS with a credit card??
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 9:07:43 PM)
Go to the Bucknuts site. There is a credit card option there. You can send it to me by e-mail too.
NapervilleBuck (Apr 25, 2002 9:08:05 PM)
That's what I was looking for Duane...what's your e-mail?
beavercreekbuck (Apr 25, 2002 9:08:31 PM)
with the injuries to olivea and clarke and the obvious lack of depth even more apparent than before sprinng ball, do you think we may take 4 lineman this year even with lack of scholarships
nbuck (Apr 25, 2002 9:08:47 PM)
duane would you be satisifed with either boeckman or quinn?
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 9:11:50 PM)
I would be satisfied with either. We really like both and have seen enough of both of them to fell confident about that statement.
jedaharris (Apr 25, 2002 9:10:30 PM)
Much as we are all grasping for someone to develop quickly on the offensive line to shore up our numbers, look how long it has taken Steponovich to become a good player (2 years) and he was highly thought of coming out of high school. No quick fixes!
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 9:11:01 PM)
NapervilleBuck (Apr 25, 2002 9:11:42 PM)
Given your response, Duane, will Zwick and Smith come into camp on even footing, considering Zwick's history with Justin and his brother?
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 9:13:17 PM)
I think they will be on even footing even though the camera will be on Zwick. The coaches eyes will be on both. We are not hearing great things about the current QBs. Krenzel being cheered by the other team is very telling.
NapervilleBuck (Apr 25, 2002 9:12:31 PM)
Kelly Baraka.......tradegy or a failure on the part of the UM staff?
Marysville Buck-I (Apr 25, 2002 9:13:09 PM)
Has it been confirmed that it was drugs again with Baraka or is that just rumored?
jedaharris (Apr 25, 2002 9:13:22 PM)
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 9:13:48 PM)
Baraka was trouble before he ever got to Michigan.
NapervilleBuck (Apr 25, 2002 9:14:19 PM)
Duane.....Delbert Ferguson....give me an idea of his talents
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 9:15:36 PM)
Superstar player. Slasher like Robert Smith but bigger and stronger. Better outside but will become just as good inside. He is really getting big. He is now 6-3 and about 205.
Marysville Buck-I (Apr 25, 2002 9:14:43 PM)
Sad. The second time he was busted (this is his third incident since he arrived at scUm land), he was late to his court appearance, was wearing a tee shirt and said the marijuana in his system was from second hand smoke.
NapervilleBuck (Apr 25, 2002 9:15:12 PM)
Duane.......RJ Coleman...did you see any film of him as a DL? Sounds like that might be his calling.
Marysville Buck-I (Apr 25, 2002 9:16:01 PM)
It was hard to tell, but I thought RJ Coleman looked lean when I saw him at practice. Is he big enough to play D-line at this point at OSU?
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 9:16:10 PM)
I have yet to see Coleman. Most who have seen him feel like D-Line is his best position.
beavercreekbuck (Apr 25, 2002 9:16:31 PM)
what's so great about tressel is that regardless of talent level he would not have someone like Baraka plating on his team
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 9:16:40 PM)
Coleman is 265.
NapervilleBuck (Apr 25, 2002 9:16:49 PM)
Good point, BCB
Marysville Buck-I (Apr 25, 2002 9:17:17 PM)
Wow, then I misjudged him in his jacket that he was wearing.
NapervilleBuck (Apr 25, 2002 9:17:27 PM)
Duane...did you realize that Hamby would be the talent that he is turning out to be?
Marysville Buck-I (Apr 25, 2002 9:18:30 PM)
At first, I was against the dividing of the teams for the scrimmage, but after seeing the excitement the players had with this draft, I've changed my mind a bit. I really like how Tressel tries to make it fun for everyone. The players were absolutely stoked.
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 9:18:37 PM)
Yes. He was always a great receiver. He was not a great athlete and not much of a blocker. That is still his problem.
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 9:19:46 PM)
I think any school could have had what happened to Michigan happen to them. They can't check thees kids out that well. They are allowed so little contact.
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 9:20:17 PM)
They can't put alot of weight into rumors. Alot of jealous people out there.
jedaharris (Apr 25, 2002 9:20:28 PM)
I agree. We just know Tressel would handle it fairly for the kid and OSU.
beavercreekbuck (Apr 25, 2002 9:21:39 PM)
i work with hamby's step dad . he said hamby is expecting to play and that the coaches are constantly working with him on blocking techniques. apparently he is much better than anyone else at the receiving part of being a tightend
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 9:22:15 PM)
Hamby will remind you of Tim Stratton as a pass catcher. Just a natural.
Marysville Buck-I (Apr 25, 2002 9:22:39 PM)
Looks like Hamby can take a hit after the catch, also.
nbuck (Apr 25, 2002 9:23:25 PM)
will they tell rj to go to defense and louis will see a great oppurtunity?
(Apr 25, 2002 9:23:59 PM)
Louis sees he is unique. he can bring something that none of the others have.
jedaharris (Apr 25, 2002 9:23:32 PM)
Duane, how's it going with the new responsibilities? Are you now able to work on this stuff full time or do you still have a "day Job"?
(Apr 25, 2002 9:24:33 PM)
New responsibilities are not a problem.
Marysville Buck-I (Apr 25, 2002 9:23:51 PM)
Duane, anything new on the Cincinnati Princeton kid for this class?
Marysville Buck-I (Apr 25, 2002 9:24:46 PM)
Barnett....had forgotten his name for a second.
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 9:25:04 PM)
There is nothing new on Barnett. When he is eligible I think he gets a scholie.
Marysville Buck-I (Apr 25, 2002 9:25:31 PM)
Duane, was Chris Conwell highly sought after to your knowledge?
beavercreekbuck (Apr 25, 2002 9:25:46 PM)
duane sorry if this was already asked but the news on cotton and irrizary following sunday's junior day seemed very positive. any chance of commitment from either soon?
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 9:26:58 PM)
I don't see a verbal from either soon. I see both as definitely Buckeye leans but it may not be as soon as some want.
nbuck (Apr 25, 2002 9:25:53 PM)
how many commitments by june camp time?
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 9:26:01 PM)
Really the later the better. Better chance to look at players at camp if he is not sure about his status until this summer.
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 9:29:07 PM)
I can't say about commitments by camp. This is not going like last year. Patterson, Burgess and Irizarry are possibles but there is nothing definite to make me think any pull the trigger anytime soon.
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 9:27:12 PM)
Marysville Buck-I (Apr 25, 2002 9:27:44 PM)
Yeah, transfer from YSU...wearing #20, and is ahead of Britton on the depth chart
Marysville Buck-I (Apr 25, 2002 9:28:01 PM)
H.S. class of '98
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 9:30:39 PM)
Where is there a depth chart with him in front of Britton?
Marysville Buck-I (Apr 25, 2002 9:31:41 PM)
Don't think that there is anything official in writing, but I believe that one of the BSB guys said this. But I don't know how healthy Britton is. I do know that Conwell has been a very pleasent surprise.
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 9:32:09 PM)
Britton has had that hammy for a long time.
Hoosier Buck (Apr 25, 2002 9:33:10 PM)
I believe the Srs. picked Conwell ahead of Britton
Kirk L. (Apr 25, 2002 9:33:21 PM)
Conwell was assigned wasn't he?
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 9:33:48 PM)
That would be telling. The thing to think about is if Brittons problem is the hammy why is he playing at all?
Hoosier Buck (Apr 25, 2002 9:33:56 PM)
Yes re: O-Z
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 9:34:53 PM)
Conwell was one of the seniors assigned?
Kirk L. (Apr 25, 2002 9:36:21 PM)
I think Dave told me yesterday that he was assigned
jedaharris (Apr 25, 2002 9:37:05 PM)
Looks like a long, slow, recruiting season this year, we are definitely going to have to find something else to do this spring. Maybe catch the baseball team for a game or two.
Kirk L. (Apr 25, 2002 9:37:12 PM)
Duane, a question on a player that hasn't come up tonight... what do you hear on Mike Phillips?
(Apr 25, 2002 9:39:07 PM)
I am not hearing anything about Phillips. I am seeing a pattern with the offers. I don't think anything happens with a corner until we hear from Hiley and Whitner. I don't think we see anything more with Frost until we hear from Irizarry. I see nothing more with Maupin and Nick Larkin until we hear from Cotton and Patterson.
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 9:37:24 PM)
Nanes to keep in mind Ty Hall and Brian Williamson. Fastest rising propscts in Ohio.
Marysville Buck-I (Apr 25, 2002 9:37:52 PM)
Just checked....it was Helwagen that said that the CB rotation was pretty clear....1's McNutt and Fox, 2's Jacobs and Conwell, with Britton playing with the 3's
jedaharris (Apr 25, 2002 9:40:31 PM)
Duane, Are you hearing much about steroids with the high school players now. I was talking to a power lifter the other day and he was shaking his head about how strong these high school players are. Have you heard anything about this?
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 9:41:45 PM)
A lot. The kids are using all kinds of stuff. I have not heard about it concerning a major player. That is significant. I wish the high school players would look at that. Nobody big time has been successful.
Marysville Buck-I (Apr 25, 2002 9:41:46 PM)
I am a novice on steroids. How easily can these be hidden from testing? I mean, can you spend some money to put something into your system that hides the steroid signs when you are tested? Anyone?
Marysville Buck-I (Apr 25, 2002 9:42:31 PM)
Duane, where do you think Devin Jordan is going to rank nationally amongst WR's?
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 9:43:23 PM)
I think it depends on his forty time. I am not yet convinced. We could see a major shakeup of our WR rating come the next issue.
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 9:42:50 PM)
The best detection equipment is very hard to fool.
jedaharris (Apr 25, 2002 9:43:36 PM)
You can check a lipid profile (blood test) on them and tell immediately - they really lower the HDL cholesterol.
Marysville Buck-I (Apr 25, 2002 9:43:38 PM)
And I would assume that OSU has "the best detection equipment." And I would also assume they test.
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 9:44:14 PM)
None of the colleges is as extensive as the pros. I wish it was. Look at Mandarich.
jedaharris (Apr 25, 2002 9:44:26 PM)
You don't have to find steroids in their system for the team doctors to know who is doing it.
Kirk L. (Apr 25, 2002 9:45:04 PM)
All right everyone... Thanks to Duane for coming to chat with us tonight! I will be around for about 5-10 more min if anyone has any questions.
george (Apr 25, 2002 9:45:21 PM)
jedaharris (Apr 25, 2002 9:45:36 PM)
Muchas gracias, Duane, and for the OFS too!
Marysville Buck-I (Apr 25, 2002 9:45:51 PM)
Thanks Duane and good point, Jeda.
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 9:45:52 PM)
There are skin problems and bloating and the mood swings but it would be difficult for a trainer to know for sure. He may suspect but there is no sure outward sign.
jedaharris (Apr 25, 2002 9:46:13 PM)
Thanks to you also Kirk. YOu know we love you too!
Duane (Apr 25, 2002 9:46:22 PM)
Good talking with you and I will be back soon. Should be much more next time I am on.
