Biddle Chat: Nov. 14 Archive

The status of redshirt freshman tailback Erik Haw was one of many topics discussed in Monday night's Chat session with Bucknuts.com assistant editor Dave Biddle. Click this free link for a look at the transcript from Biddle's Chat and details on more Chat sessions this week.

chex1868 (Nov 14, 2005 9:06:50 PM)
What are your thoughts on possible transfer of Haw?

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 9:07:27 PM)
I think it's a possibility, but in the end I think he'll stay. The staff has been burned before with RB depth chart situations and I think they will convince him to stay in his hometown.

chex1868 (Nov 14, 2005 9:08:29 PM)
What are the odds Santonio stays for senior season?? 50 /50?

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 9:08:51 PM)
I think it's 100 percent he'll turn pro.

Hawk4Butkus (Nov 14, 2005 9:09:19 PM)
Are you surprised with the season Pittman is having?

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 9:09:47 PM)
Yes and no. I predicted he would go just over 1,000 yards this year, but I did not anticipate 1,200-1,300 or whatever he will finish at.

mulder (Nov 14, 2005 9:10:21 PM)
Dave, if I'm Michigan, I make a maximum commitment to stop the run and dare TS to beat me with his arm. I still don't feel good about his ability to find receivers. What do you think they will do?

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 9:11:07 PM)
I agree. I think their game plan will be to load up the box and make Smith prove he can win the game in the air. But if they single cover Santonio, they could be in trouble. That's what's great about OSU's offense now is they don't seem to have a glaring weakness.

chex1868 (Nov 14, 2005 9:11:54 PM)
How has Michigan's D improved? They were horrible early in the year.

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 9:12:39 PM)
I think its defensive line has played very well the second half of this year. Watson, Massey, Woodley, Branch are a very good front four.

mackv (Nov 14, 2005 9:12:54 PM)
Do you think any of the 20+ prospects attending the Michigan game will be swayed twords interest in tOSU if they put a good woopin on them.

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 9:13:16 PM)
I honestly don't think recruits put too much stock in who wins the game. But a big OSU victory couldn't hurt.

Hawk4Butkus (Nov 14, 2005 9:14:00 PM)
How high will Hawk be taken in the draft?

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 9:14:48 PM)
Top 5. One of my buddies is a Browns fan and he's hoping Hawk will land in Cleveland. My Bengals won't have a shot at him drafting in the late 20's!

mackv (Nov 14, 2005 9:16:23 PM)
Starting O-line mext year?

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 9:17:04 PM)
LT Boone, LG Datish, C Cordle, RG Rehring, RT Barton... with Connor Smith getting a lot of PT off the bench at G.

chex1868 (Nov 14, 2005 9:17:10 PM)
Losing all 3 seniors at LB. Who makes the biggest impact filling in?

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 9:17:36 PM)
Freeman and Laurinaitis.

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 9:18:13 PM)
I think the LBs are in good shape overall next year with Freeman, Laurinaitis, Kerr, D'Andrea and Hoobler

mackv (Nov 14, 2005 9:18:17 PM)
Is Freeman a medical rs?

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 9:18:21 PM)
Yes.

mackv (Nov 14, 2005 9:18:25 PM)
Did M Jenkins get hurt last week or was that a senior day thing?

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 9:18:54 PM)
I think it was a little of both. He was a little dinged up, but could have played. But why not save him for Michigan and let the vets play most of the game.

busman64 (Nov 14, 2005 9:18:58 PM)
Dave any chance santonio returns

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 9:19:05 PM)
No, I think he's definitely gone.

COwboOys (Nov 14, 2005 9:19:10 PM)
who starts at LB next year? D'adndrea Kerr and Freeman?

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 9:19:35 PM)
I think Laurinaitis will be in there somewhere. Not sure who he will beat out, but I think he lands in the starting lineup.

mackv (Nov 14, 2005 9:19:56 PM)
Another site said Homan next great OSU lb your thaughts?

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 9:20:30 PM)
I think he will be in the rotation next year. He's so good you can't redshirt him. Not sure if he'll be the next great one, but he definitely has the potential.

busman64 (Nov 14, 2005 9:20:46 PM)
Who is gonna step in for Holmes as the number one, I dont see Ginn doing it and Gonzo is a great slot WR is gonna be Dukes/Hall?

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 9:21:31 PM)
I think it's going to be a steady diet of Ginn and Gonzo next year. But the staff is excited about Dukes and I am impressed with Roy Hall every time I see him. Santonio will be a big loss, a very big loss, but the WR corps should be fine next year.

COwboOys (Nov 14, 2005 9:22:10 PM)
Laurinitis over Hoobler?

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 9:22:59 PM)
Well, right now James is playing OLB and Hoobler is in the middle. It will be interesting to see how it will shake out next year, but they both could land in the starting lineup, along with Freeman. But it's going to be hard to keep D'Andrea and Kerr out of there.

mulder (Nov 14, 2005 9:23:05 PM)
What's your prediction on the score of The Game? How wide open will it be?

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 9:23:42 PM)
23-20 OSU. I think it will be an old fashioned slugfest. A late Huston FG will win it for the Bucks.

mackv (Nov 14, 2005 9:23:58 PM)
Eric Haw ran hard when he was in I hope we see more of him. But i love PIttman dont get me wrong.

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 9:24:52 PM)
I agree. Pittman is the man, but a little more Haw mixed in could be a good thing for this offense. Mo Wells might have a higher ceiling, but right now I'm more impressed with what Haw brings to the table. In limited opps, he always seems to fall forward. The sign of a good back.

COwboOys (Nov 14, 2005 9:25:05 PM)
Dave: will OSU go back to I-fomation with White and Pittman/Wells...maybe with Wells and Pittman either split or I together? What kind of a blocker is Wells?

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 9:25:46 PM)
Yes, I think we'll see more power I out of the Buckeyes than at any other time of the year. Look for a lot of Dionte Johnson and White. But Michigan will be ready for this. OSU "surprised" them with it last year.

mackv (Nov 14, 2005 9:25:54 PM)
No way Michigan scores 20.

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 9:26:00 PM)
Buckeye Nation hopes you are correct

mulder (Nov 14, 2005 9:26:20 PM)
Do you think JT stays with the spread next year or goes back to more of a power O with C. Wells?

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 9:26:34 PM)
I think he will continue to mix it up. And OSU's version of the spread isn'

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 9:26:41 PM)
isn't a true spread IMO

COwboOys (Nov 14, 2005 9:27:21 PM)
honestly...I don't see our Defense being THAT much worse next year....aside from LB dropoff ( which may or may not be that great depending on whether Kerr and Dandrea step up) I think the DB and DL's will be improved and wee will be a top 20 defense again next year. What do you think Dave?

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 9:28:01 PM)
I think a top 20 D is a very realistic possibility. Losing Hawk and Co. will hurt, but the D will still be in good shape next year. A lot will depend on Youboty's decision. I think Whitner will return for sure. Pitcock will be one of the best players in the nation next year.

mulder (Nov 14, 2005 9:28:06 PM)
What are you hearing about who the next kicker will be - Pettrey or Pretorious or someone else?

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 9:28:15 PM)
I'm hearing it will definitely be Pretorius next year.

COwboOys (Nov 14, 2005 9:29:03 PM)
Whatever happened to that kicker that was caught with da Ganja?

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 9:29:43 PM)
Jonathan Skeete pleaded guilty to trafficking and will be sentenced in December.

mackv (Nov 14, 2005 9:29:52 PM)
I said this once before on a chat but its anti Tres. Starting LBs = Freeman, Laurinatis, Hoobler, Homan. Kerr & D Andrea are not the future. The O will take tOSU through the first half of next year. Give these young dogs a chance to learn how to hunt.

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 9:30:41 PM)
It's not a bad thought at all. But you're right, it goes against Tresselball. He will play his seniors, all things being equal. Now, if Freeman, Laurinaitis and Hoobler are much better, they will play. But if it's close, look for the seniors to get a lot of PT.

COwboOys (Nov 14, 2005 9:30:46 PM)
Is he off the team Dave?

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 9:30:52 PM)
Yes, Skeete is off the team.

COwboOys (Nov 14, 2005 9:31:47 PM)
I think Kerr will be great given a chance in the middle myself...

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 9:32:02 PM)
It could very well happen. Been impressed with his play on ST and as a backup LB in garbage time

mackv (Nov 14, 2005 9:32:09 PM)
Secondary next year should be solid if Youboty returns. Could look like Whitner& O neal at safety, Youboty & my new fav. buck M. Jenkins. He has a SWAGER.

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 9:32:58 PM)
I agree. I think the secondary will be outstanding if Youboty returns. Whitner will be one of the top players in the land, along with Ashton. Jenkins is a star in the making, O'Neal will be a better player next year, Mitchell is back, etc... It could be a very good year for the DBs

mulder (Nov 14, 2005 9:33:22 PM)
Are there any guys on the team that we're not hearing much about who seem to have a big future starting as early as next year?

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 9:33:49 PM)
I think Vern Gholston will be a player next year if he's healthy. Not sure if he'll start, but he'll be a strong contributor.

mackv (Nov 14, 2005 9:34:31 PM)
Cotton or Abdala have to step up. I like Patterson at D end. Who else may man the middle with Pitcock?

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 9:35:12 PM)
They might start Penton, but I agree that one of the young guys will need to step up. Actually, Cotton won't even be young anymore as a fourth year junior. Next year is a make or break year for him. The opportunity for PT is there and he has all the potential

giveusNotreDame (Nov 14, 2005 9:35:18 PM)
Do you think Marcel Frost will play a big role next year? What is your opinion of him this year? It's so good to see him play

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 9:35:56 PM)
I think he's done a very solid job after getting released from the Doghouse. Next year, I think he will split time with Nicol, but yes, I think he will have a fairly big role next year.

COwboOys (Nov 14, 2005 9:36:08 PM)
Dave: how are these young ends doing this year.......Barrow and L.Wilson, haven't heard much about either this year. Also is Gholston destined for Tackle or End?

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 9:36:44 PM)
There just hasn't been much PT available at DE after they moved Carpenter down there. With the way Kudla and Carp have been playing, there hasn't been much room for the young guns, except in garbage time

mulder (Nov 14, 2005 9:36:48 PM)
Among the assistant coaches, who impresses you the most and why?

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 9:37:25 PM)
Really like Hazell. He has head coach written all over him. OSU was terrible in the return games before he arrived. OK, OK, Ginn might have just a little something to do with that. Holmes too.

mackv (Nov 14, 2005 9:37:36 PM)
Frost plays with a little chip on his shoulder. He is just rough around the edges.

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 9:38:06 PM)
I've noticed that too. He has a nasty edge -- which I think is perfect for this offense. Will be interesting to see how much he is used on Saturday.

busman64 (Nov 14, 2005 9:38:22 PM)
Dave what is the name of our kicking coach, whoever it is, is the best in the business because every year we are putting out top kickers

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 9:38:40 PM)
His name is Jim Tressel. The head man works directly with the kickers.

MCSpartan (Nov 14, 2005 9:38:58 PM)
Hi guys, im new year so thanks for welcoming me. What about Kerr, Freeman and the other linebackers next year. What can we expect out of them

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 9:39:51 PM)
The LB corps should be pretty strong next year, even with all the losses. Kerr, Freeman, Laurinaitis, D'Andrea and Hoobler will all battle for the starting spots... and maybe true frosh Ross Homan as well

mulder (Nov 14, 2005 9:40:05 PM)
Special teams have been great. Exactly who has responsibility for the various pieces of special teams and how do they coordinate?

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 9:40:29 PM)
Hazell has most of them, but all the coaches chip in. Fickell and Haynes are involved

giveusNotreDame (Nov 14, 2005 9:40:38 PM)
What are your biggest concerns about THE GAME this Saturday? I hope the offense doesn't tighten up again

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 9:41:18 PM)
That might be my biggest fear: OSU tends to play ultra concervative under Tressel in big road games. But I think he will have a few tricks up his sleeve as always for UM.

COwboOys (Nov 14, 2005 9:41:39 PM)
Dave: 2 questions about Ginn. 1. will he be here for 4 years or 3? 2. what will his eventual MAIN position be CB or WR?

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 9:42:48 PM)
I think he'll turn pro after his junior year... If you asked me in the preseason, I would have said corner. But at this point, maybe he will be a WR in the league. Tough call. I think he will play both ways for OSU next year (especially if Youboty leaves) and maybe he can be a two-way player on the next level. What NFL teams will like the most about him will be his special teams skills.

mackv (Nov 14, 2005 9:42:56 PM)
I like R Hall i wish he would get two balls a game thrown his way. Next year he will be that guy that you say " why havnt we thrown to him more"

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 9:43:28 PM)
Roy Hall has just quietly done his job this year and always seems to play well. I really like his game. Need a big, physical receivers with all the speed guys OSU has.

COwboOys (Nov 14, 2005 9:43:36 PM)
Dave: Cowboys or Eagles tonight?!!

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 9:43:53 PM)
Only fantasy football implications, so go Julius Jones!

MCSpartan (Nov 14, 2005 9:44:17 PM)
What is the X-factor for this week, meaning what is one part of the game we must to well in to win.....and can we do it?

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 9:44:55 PM)
As the risk of sounding obvious, I think it's establishing a running game early. If Pittman can gash UM for a couple big runs early, it should open up the rest of the offense

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 9:45:26 PM)
And yes, I think OSU is very capable of running against them

mackv (Nov 14, 2005 9:46:05 PM)
I would love to see TG2 through a pass out of the shotGinn.

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 9:46:32 PM)
Why not. The D would not be ready for it. And he could throw the ball fairly well as a senior in high school

giveusNotreDame (Nov 14, 2005 9:47:23 PM)
You bet Mackv, I'll bet we see Ginn at QB possibly once... remember the dirty trick Breaston pulled on OSU for Michigan's first TD two years ago

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 9:47:44 PM)
And you can bet UM will try that play again

COwboOys (Nov 14, 2005 9:48:23 PM)
Henne will NEVER win against OSU...I just don't think this kid has the intangibles you need to win in the big game. I actually think Gutz would be a better QB in the game...this kid is all game...believe me.

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 9:49:06 PM)
Wow, 0-4 for Chad. Not sure if that will happen, but a lot of OSU fans want to believe you. I don't think he's great, but he's got a big arm. No mobility, the typical UM QB

MCSpartan (Nov 14, 2005 9:49:29 PM)
Something just didnt seem right in 02. From the beginning of the game i just couldnt sense it. This week ive got a good feeling. Whos gonna be the leader this week? My call is the lancaster boy bobby carp

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 9:49:53 PM)
I think you mean '03... Hawk is my pick for the MVP this year. I think he goes out with one of those memorable performances.

giveusNotreDame (Nov 14, 2005 9:50:26 PM)
Do you think OSU can make Michigan one-dimensional on offense? Mike Hart probably is the key to shutting down the Michigan O, and I imagine OSU can shut him down again, but I couldn't believe it when Perry went nuts on them

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 9:51:25 PM)
I'm still shocked Perry was able to go over 200 yards against that defense -- a defense littered with NFL players. This year, yes, I think OSU can make Michigan one dimensional, but I'm not sold that it will. I think Michigan will be able to move the ball at times, but OSU will make enough plays to win

mackv (Nov 14, 2005 9:52:08 PM)
AJ and Carpenters last Michigan game i am expecting alot of tackles with bad intentions. Combined 20+ if i had to bet.

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 9:52:36 PM)
That sounds like a solid bet. UM will try and run the ball a lot and Hawk and Carp will be all over the field. I think Hawk will have a huge game

COwboOys (Nov 14, 2005 9:52:46 PM)
I think if Gutz was the Starting QB he would go 3-1, 2-2 at worst against OSU...I saw this kid in HS...and wow he is some kind of leader on and off the field

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 9:53:05 PM)
They were ready to hand him the starting job last year before he got hurt.

MCSpartan (Nov 14, 2005 9:53:17 PM)
I think the difference from this year and 03(i meant 03) is pugac to schlagel. I like Anthony will have a solid game this week also!

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 9:54:04 PM)
This is Schlegel's kind of game. He's built to take on the fullback in the hole. He's not built for spread offenses and dropping into coverage. He will have to do that at times against UM, but more often than not he'll be in the box knocking heads

mackv (Nov 14, 2005 9:54:13 PM)
Fast forward to Sat lets go.

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 9:54:18 PM)
It's Michigan week and it feels good

mackv (Nov 14, 2005 9:54:52 PM)
Teddy just has another level of speed once he hits about his fith step. On one of Santonios kick returns. TG was about 7 yards behind then he hit that gear and was seven yards ahead in a flash against NW. Missed the block but thats not the point.

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 9:55:20 PM)
I have never seen anything like it. Teddy definitely has that "sixth gear"

giveusNotreDame (Nov 14, 2005 9:55:47 PM)
I wonder if Mangold will do ok on Gabe Watson, I seem to remember Watson shoving him around some last year... this is what I think could maybe hold the running game back... what do you think?

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 9:56:28 PM)
I asked Nick about that today and he said it's definitely his biggest challenge of the season (no pun intended). But I think he held his own last year. Watson is big, but he takes plays off. You can't do that in this game.

mackv (Nov 14, 2005 9:56:41 PM)
Schlagel is a little overrated to me if Whilhelm were in the middle with those two it would be hands down the best lb corp of all time.

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 9:57:01 PM)
There's no question Wilhelm was better, but Schlegel has been a solid No. 3 LB for this team. His toughness and leadership has been big for the D all year.

MCSpartan (Nov 14, 2005 9:57:09 PM)
What is one part(i know its hard to choose) that you like about Michigan week. Mine is dinner with my grandfather. This brings familys together!

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 9:57:29 PM)
I just love watching the game. Not so much during the Cooper years, but definitely 3 of the last 4.

COwboOys (Nov 14, 2005 9:59:36 PM)
Dave: how many OSU players get drafted this year? I was doing some math the other day and it looks like double digits again! Mangold,Sims, Holmes, Green,Kudla, Hawk, Carpenter, Schlegel, Salley, Houston-all locks. Possible late round draft choices Everett, Hamby!!

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 10:00:41 PM)
I think around nine will be drafted, 10 if Youboty leaves. Top seven in order: Hawk, Holmes, Carpenter, Mangold, Kudla, Salley, Sims.

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 10:01:16 PM)
I think there's a good chance OSU will have four first round picks. Mangold is sneaking into the late first round of most mock drafts.

mackv (Nov 14, 2005 10:01:28 PM)
Just moved back to Ohio after 11 years and this feels so good to be in Cbus this week. Im going to watch the 2002 Nat Champ game when were done.

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 10:02:40 PM)
If that is not the most therapeutic thing in the world, I do not know what is. Next time you're feeling down, pop in the tape of the Fiesta Bowl

MCSpartan (Nov 14, 2005 10:02:51 PM)
is youboty going to leave?

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 10:03:05 PM)
He said it's 50/50 and (unlike Holmes) I believe him.

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 10:03:17 PM)
But I think he will stay in the end.

COwboOys (Nov 14, 2005 10:03:24 PM)
wow....4 first rounders? You think Carpenter is a sure 1st rounder? Also where do you see Hawk drafted...I've heard as high as 3 or 4 but something tells me he is going to be drafted more around 10.

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 10:04:16 PM)
Yes, I think Carpenter will be a late first round pick. He is going to do some sick things at pro day. Top 5 for Hawk, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him slip a few spots since the NFL doesn't usually draft LBs too high. But I think he's the exception to the rule.

mackv (Nov 14, 2005 10:04:21 PM)
Ted Ginn Sr will be the coach of the East squad at the Army All- American game i hope that may have a impact on some of those recruits leading up to signing day.

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 10:04:51 PM)
I actually think it will have an impact. If a guy is on the fence (Wallace?) Ginn might be just the person to push him in the right direction.

COwboOys (Nov 14, 2005 10:05:04 PM)
I would be shocked is Ybouty left myself...he has not had a good 2nd half of the season....I doubt he is top 3 round material this year. Plus I don't think he has blazer speed or combine numbers to boost his stock at this point.

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 10:05:50 PM)
He would not slip past the second round IMO. How a player does his final year in college doesn't matter all that much if he's already proven himself. Nate Clements and Chris Gamble did not have great junior years, but they were first round picks and are doing very well in the league

COwboOys (Nov 14, 2005 10:06:05 PM)
Speaking of the AA game....Dave what is your opinion of Lemming. Is his rep deserved or not? or somewhere in the middle?

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 10:06:29 PM)
I don't know too much about him. I just think he's a Notre Dame homer who hooked on with ESPN at the right time.

mackv (Nov 14, 2005 10:06:43 PM)
Carpenter may end up in the top 15- 20. NFL people love numbers and Bobby has the package. OSU players traditionaly grade well in combine situations. NOT MO C

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 10:07:26 PM)
Ha! Yeah, 13 was definitely the exception to that rule. He still hasn't finished running that 40. Carpenter will be a first round pick because of his combine numbers, and his versatility. He will save NFL teams a roster spot. Can play special teams too.

nomadbuck (Nov 14, 2005 10:07:30 PM)
What about Haw. HE ran hard when he was in there and looked good. what happen with him next year.

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 10:08:16 PM)
I think he will stick around next year. The staff has been burned with RB depth chart situations before (Riley, Maldonado) and I think they will convince him to stay, just in case there is an injury to Pitt or Chris Wells.

COwboOys (Nov 14, 2005 10:08:43 PM)
any juicy tidbits about recruiting you could give us Dave? :)

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 10:09:14 PM)
Unfortunately there's not too much I can tell you, although it did sound positive for OSU last time I interviewed AJ Wallace

MCSpartan (Nov 14, 2005 10:09:39 PM)
alright time for a real question....where i work, we go with the blue shirts on Wed. Do i wear blue or stick with scarlet and gray/sweatervests all week? I work at a golf course so looking good isnt important right now

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 10:09:52 PM)
I think you have to be true to the Buckeyes and skip the blue this week!

boulderbuck1 (Nov 14, 2005 10:10:01 PM)
dave, every michigan game it seems like tressel "lets down his hair" so to speak, and there are offensive plays that have not been used all season. Do you see him doing it again this week? or do you think he wants to line up and smash them in the mouth?

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 10:10:44 PM)
Oh, I think there's no question he's been saving some plays for this game. But at the same time, OSU wants to establish a running game early. So, look for both. Some new plays, but also some power I with Dionte in there

mackv (Nov 14, 2005 10:11:01 PM)
Pittman, M Wells, Haw and C. Wells nice depth and talent next two three yaers. Its funny how your biggest question mark one year is a strength the next.

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 10:11:36 PM)
I was just thinking about this as well. Going into the season, OSU had zero proven tailbacks. OK, so next year they'll just have one, but I think it will be a true RB stable next year with Pitt, the Wells bros and Haw

MCSpartan (Nov 14, 2005 10:11:42 PM)
Thanks.....down with blue! What about or offensive line play this week. What player do you see having a big game.

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 10:12:15 PM)
I look for TJ Downing to have a big game against his dad's old school. Yes, Walt Downing was an All-American at Michigan. But he did raise his kids right!

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 10:12:37 PM)
Overall, I've been impressed with OSU'

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 10:12:44 PM)
OSU's O-line this year.

COwboOys (Nov 14, 2005 10:13:05 PM)
J. Peterson: what's your opinion on how he is doing as recruiting coordinator? I haven't bee impressed.

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 10:13:44 PM)
You know, right now that might be more of a title than anything else. Fickell is a key recruiter and Peterson will continue to get better and grow into that role. He is an excellent O-line coach.

giveusNotreDame (Nov 14, 2005 10:14:00 PM)
WHat do you expect will happen with the O-Line next year? Where will Boone and Barton fit?

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 10:14:36 PM)
I think the starting five next year will be: LT Boone, RG Datish, C Cordle, RG Rehring, RT Barton. And I think Connor Smith will play a lot off the bench

boulderbuck1 (Nov 14, 2005 10:14:42 PM)
any thoughts on the current bid for a BCS game?

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 10:15:05 PM)
If OSU wins, I look for them to play Notre Dame in the Fiesta.

COwboOys (Nov 14, 2005 10:15:14 PM)
I thought Bollman was the Oline coach?

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 10:15:28 PM)
He is. But Peterson helps out quite a bit. Peterson is technically the TE coach.

MCSpartan (Nov 14, 2005 10:15:35 PM)
cordle moving to center? is he injury free and taking snaps right now? Always root for the lancaster boys!

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 10:16:08 PM)
Cordle was on the two-deep at C in spring and preseason camp. He would have been Mangold's backup this year if he didn't get hurt. Blessing in disguise, now the Buckeyes get an extra season out of him

mackv (Nov 14, 2005 10:17:40 PM)
Person ever going to get a shot? He seemed like a beast in HS.

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 10:18:13 PM)
I think he still has a very good shot. Downing was also buried on the depth chart as a redshirt soph, but finally got his shot midway through his sophomore year and hasn't looked back

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 10:18:25 PM)
I mean redshirt freshman

COwboOys (Nov 14, 2005 10:18:38 PM)
Conner Smith....will he start sometime next year? G or T?

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 10:18:57 PM)
I think he will definitely play a lot. Whether he starts might depend on injury, much like Boone this year.

boulderbuck1 (Nov 14, 2005 10:19:26 PM)
with holmes all but out the door, who're our recievers next year? gonzo 1, ted 2, 3??

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 10:19:39 PM)
I think it has to be Roy Hall, but look for a lot of Dukes as well

giveusNotreDame (Nov 14, 2005 10:20:00 PM)
What do you think was up with the OSU unit defending on kickoffs? Were they just surprised that they had to actually do something? The horrors that michigan could unleash if OSU has a repeat peformance of that make me cringe

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 10:20:28 PM)
Unless there's strong winds, Huston should take care of that problem with touchbacks. He did slip once last week, hence the poor kick

mackv (Nov 14, 2005 10:20:42 PM)
What position will Worthington end up playing? I thaught when he was recruited he could be a nasty athletic O tackle.

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 10:21:04 PM)
I still think he will end up at DT. But right now they seem to like him on the edge. I've heard nothing about moving him to offense

COwboOys (Nov 14, 2005 10:21:09 PM)
what about Lyons? too me Hall has had his chance to prove himself over and over again...and he hasn't

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 10:21:30 PM)
He will be in the mix. He redshirted this year, so he still has three years left in the program

COwboOys (Nov 14, 2005 10:23:10 PM)
BCS musings: ND vs OSU..who would win?

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 10:23:19 PM)
I think OSU would win by 10 points or more

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 10:23:40 PM)
Hoping to see that matchup. It would make a "meaningless" bowl pretty intriguing

COwboOys (Nov 14, 2005 10:24:03 PM)
wow!! confident answer...as much as I hate ND and Weis I have been impressed with ND this year...oh I also hate Quinn alot too

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 10:24:38 PM)
They lost to Michigan State (I know OSU also struggled against MSU) and their claim to fame is a loss to USC. I think the hype machine is a little out of control with ND.

giveusNotreDame (Nov 14, 2005 10:24:58 PM)
How about OSU/Miami in the Orange Bowl, who'd win that?

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 10:25:29 PM)
I would feel much more confident about a Notre Dame matchup. Don't really want to play the Canes on their home field with them still talking revenge from three years ago.

ohs (Nov 14, 2005 10:25:46 PM)
what's your score prediction

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 10:25:49 PM)
23-20 OSU

ohs (Nov 14, 2005 10:25:58 PM)
will we get rose and small?

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 10:26:09 PM)
I think so. That pipeline isn't clogging up anytime soon

mackv (Nov 14, 2005 10:26:25 PM)
Could a guy like Lenix enroll, since he met clearinghouse standards and walk- on? Seems like if this is your future you do what it takes to get on the field.

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 10:27:07 PM)
The issue isn't NCAA (I believe) it's OSU admissions. I think Lenix will be here in the winter on scholarship.

COwboOys (Nov 14, 2005 10:27:24 PM)
the thing about ND tho....is they can play against ANYONE in the country.....I dont think they would get blown out by playing USC again or against texas or against OSU...but on the other hand they play down to other teams too.

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 10:28:06 PM)
They played excellent against USC, no question. But I don't think they could repeat it. Their defense is below average and OSU would be able to handle their offense somewhat.

COwboOys (Nov 14, 2005 10:28:58 PM)
Dave: is it just me or is the recruiting effort down this year? In years past it seemed at this time of the year we would still be in on roughly ten or so top 100 players. This year I could count that number on my left pinky.

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 10:29:37 PM)
It does seem like they are not in on very many top prospects. But they must feel confident in guys like Wallace, Mathews, McCarthy, etc...

giveusNotreDame (Nov 14, 2005 10:30:07 PM)
Do you think MSU has any shot of beating Penn State? You could create a hit comedy following the errors of MSU's coaching staff

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 10:30:38 PM)
Oh yeah, I've said before Comedy Central needs to produce the hit series, "Unintentionally Funny... with John L. Smith." Ratings would be off the charts.

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 10:31:00 PM)
Yes, I think MSU can rise up and win that one at home. They need a W to be bowl eligible and I think that makes them dangerous

COwboOys (Nov 14, 2005 10:31:59 PM)
don't forget...MSU comes to play in BIG games......let us not forget ND this year of MSU vs UM in year's past. Plus it's at home.

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 10:32:24 PM)
Exactly. This is a dangerous game for PSU. If they come in overconfident, they could be in trouble

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 10:32:57 PM)
Stanton is due for a big game after a few rough weeks

COwboOys (Nov 14, 2005 10:34:03 PM)
turn back the clock over the last 3 years when OSU played PSU...holy cow Michael Robinson was such a BAD QB in those years......might happen again on Saturday

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 10:35:09 PM)
Robinson was so bad last year I couldn't believe it. His turnaround this year has been impressive. No, he's still not a good thrower, but he has improved tremendously. And he's a very good leader. Hats off to him. I thought very little of him coming into the season.

DaveBiddle (Nov 14, 2005 10:37:31 PM)
Well gents (and ladies) any final questions before we call it a night?

mackv (Nov 14, 2005 10:37:34 PM)
Thanks for the time that was fun. Good Chat
