Hawk Wins Big Ten Defensive POY

The All-Big Ten awards have been announced, and Ohio State is very well represented. Linebacker A.J. Hawk was selected as the conference defensive player of the year by the coaches and media, while Hawk, Santonio Holmes, Josh Huston, Mike Kudla, Nate Salley, and Ashton Youboty each won first team honors from both sides. Rob Sims and Donte Whitner added first team honors from the coaches, while several more Buckeyes won second team and honorable mention honors.

Ohio State linebacker A.J. Hawk has another award to add to the trophy case. The senior was named the Big Ten defensive player of the year today by the coaches and media, the second Buckeye in three years to win the award (Will Smith, 2003).

In a bit of a surprise, the offensive player of the year award was split between Penn State QB Michael Robinson and Northwestern QB Brett Basanez. Basanez won first team QB honors from both the coaches and media.
