Ohio State will welcome a prospect for a midweek official visit Wednesday as Clermont (Fla.) East Ridge defensive back Chimdi Chekwa will travel up to Columbus.

Chekwa (6-0, 175, 4.5) comes from the same high school as Notre Dame verbal Richard Jackson, a wide receiver. East Ridge posted a perfect 10-0 regular season this year, but lost to Edgewater 27-24 in a Class 6A Region 1 quarterfinal match-up. Edgewater features wide receiver Greg Mathews, whom the Buckeyes were recruiting before he verbaled to Michigan.

"(OSU assistant Darrell) Hazell came to my school last week," Chekwa said. "I am excited to come up there and check it out and see how cold it is. That program has been good over a lot of years and they are really good right now. It is a classic program."

Chekwa has a visit to Maryland this weekend and Wake Forest Jan. 6. He is also interested in Georgia Tech. All of these schools – including OSU – have offered. He also has offers from Clemson, South Carolina and others.

Chekwa was a starter as a junior and a senior. This year, he had 40 tackles and seven interceptions as a cornerback. He also had four fumble recoveries.

"I think I cover the deep ball really well," Chekwa said. "I think I am a big cornerback that a lot of programs are looking for right now."

With his team eliminated from the playoffs, Chekwa participated in the Central Florida all-star game this past weekend.

He said it is unlikely he will make a quick decision on his college choice this week.

"I will probably wait and take all of my visits and then decide," he said.

Chekwa holds a 3.2 GPA and scored a 23 on the ACT.
