Brutusdawg (Dec 19, 2005 1:12:48 PM)
Hey Nevada...It looks like Devon Lyons will be moving to free safety. Is this something you had heard previously or is this news to you?? Also, are there any other position changes you have heard??
nevadabuck (Dec 19, 2005 1:14:13 PM)
I'm not sure about the Lyons thing...I know he practiced back there when we were short of bodies--but I had not heard that it was permanent--he is a big time wide receiver. As for other position changes--I think most of that will occur in the spring.
worthbuck12 (Dec 19, 2005 1:14:18 PM)
anything new on Derrell Johnson, or are we still playing the waiting game with grades?
nevadabuck (Dec 19, 2005 1:15:52 PM)
Grades are a big issue with Johnson--although I believe that he may even be willing to be "creative" with staff in order to be part of this class....I know I have him in my Final 19
aj (Dec 19, 2005 1:16:02 PM)
What's the latest on David Ausberry?
busman64 (Dec 19, 2005 1:16:05 PM)
Hey Nevada, Whats the word on Ausberry, Bill Kurelic said he thinks we have a good shot and with USC, #1 contender with him loading up on talent, what are the chances of him becoming a buckeye
nevadabuck (Dec 19, 2005 1:17:38 PM)
Ausberry is somewhat of an enigma....quiet kid, very very difficult to get on the phone, etc...I know some think he is a done deal to USC---I don't agree...but have to put him in the longer shot category...
Judah Herman #36 (Dec 19, 2005 1:17:45 PM)
Hey Nevada. Do you see Chimdi Chekwa as part of this class? How good is he?
nevadabuck (Dec 19, 2005 1:18:46 PM)
Chekwa is good enough to merit an offer...which is good enough for me. I have him in my Final 19 as well. Real good player.
skeelo (Dec 19, 2005 1:18:53 PM)
has admissions gone back to old standards or not ? if so can we get kids in who meet clearing house standards only like schools we compete against?
nevadabuck (Dec 19, 2005 1:20:31 PM)
Admissions is a touchy issue---and I'm somewhat limited in what I can say. What I will say is that JT and Gene Smith are VERY VERY aware of the issues, and working hard to create a "win-win" solution
sameye (Dec 19, 2005 1:20:39 PM)
Nevada, sorry I'm late. Don't know if you have addressed this already, but if you haven't given a final thumbs up/thumbs down on Freddie Lenix, please do so.
Judah Herman #36 (Dec 19, 2005 1:20:44 PM)
Thanks Nevada. What about Lenix? Heard anything lately about his grades. Hopefully he can come and play the position I played at OSU. He would be a phenom as a backer.
nevadabuck (Dec 19, 2005 1:22:22 PM)
I have gotten very conflicting info regarding Lenix. The LATEST info that I have is that grades come in this week and a great effort gets him in---I would remain skeptical, but hopeful.
SteveHelwagen (Dec 19, 2005 1:22:36 PM)
OK, here comes a spate of LB recruit questions ...
ODOGG45 (Dec 19, 2005 1:22:39 PM)
Hey Nevada, what's the latest on Gibson, and Johnson from CA.
torontobuck (Dec 19, 2005 1:22:44 PM)
Hi NevadaBuck, so what is the latest on Gibson and Johnson are they going to get through admissions?? If so what are the chances we add Gibson,Johnson and McCarthy to this class? I would like to get 2 of them
AZBUCK (Dec 19, 2005 1:22:47 PM)
What's the latest on M. Johnson and C. McCarthy? Are we going to get either of them?
nevadabuck (Dec 19, 2005 1:24:39 PM)
I think we get McCarthy--I really really feel strongly about that. Mark Johnson is another enigma---I "think" his grade situation is firming up, and I know staff would love to have him. I put him in the skeptical--but hopeful category. He is certainly "in play".
boulderbuck1 (Dec 19, 2005 1:25:19 PM)
Nevada! Hey, what is the latest on T. Gibson? Heard he's close to making the grade. Also, Lenix, did he get the two A's and B he needed to make it in? Thanks
nevadabuck (Dec 19, 2005 1:25:24 PM)
I think Gibson ends up a part of this class. Big time talented guy.
SteveHelwagen (Dec 19, 2005 1:25:36 PM)
SteveHelwagen (Dec 19, 2005 1:25:51 PM)
Now a bunch on the next big topic ...
SteveHelwagen (Dec 19, 2005 1:25:56 PM)
A.J. Wallace ...
AZBUCK (Dec 19, 2005 1:26:04 PM)
What's the latest on AJ Wallace?
torontobuck (Dec 19, 2005 1:26:09 PM)
For some reason I have a good feeling about Wallace. What do you think PSU or OSU?
busman64 (Dec 19, 2005 1:26:12 PM)
Aj wallace, most people think of him as the most important recruit left? Is this true and do you think that he will end up on the good side
nevadabuck (Dec 19, 2005 1:28:34 PM)
As far as I know..AJ Wallace has not made a "silent commitment" to anyone. And the staff is working hard to convince AJ that tOSU is the place for him. He is "in play" and I think we have as good a shot at him as anyone. Again I would stay skeptical but hopeful on AJ. But for anyone to contend that it is "game over" is just wrong.
SteveHelwagen (Dec 19, 2005 1:28:59 PM)
Couple class questions/observations ...
royal flush47 (Dec 19, 2005 1:29:02 PM)
Might not be a top 5 class, but finishing out with Derrell Johnson, Thad Gibson, Ray Small, Rob Rose, Colin McCarthy, Mark Johnson, Aram Olsen, McKenzie Matthews, and AJ Wallace/Jason Adjepong/Chimdi Chekwa would be a great class!
yo (Dec 19, 2005 1:29:06 PM)
Please list your Final 19?
nevadabuck (Dec 19, 2005 1:32:46 PM)
I am going with Henton, Wells, Ballard, Smith, Browning, Miller, Chichester, Small, Derrell Johnson, Coleman, Schwartz, Chekwa, Moeller, Homan, McCarthy, Gibson, Larimore, Rose, Gibson that has to be a Top 5 Quality class in anyone's eye.
yo (Dec 19, 2005 1:38:12 PM)
Nevad on your 19 you listed Gibson twice..i hope you meant wallace or ausberry..lol
Judah Herman #36 (Dec 19, 2005 1:38:15 PM)
Nevada, you listed Gibson twice on your list of 19. Who is that 19th guy supposed to be?
TheKaiser21 (Dec 19, 2005 1:38:44 PM)
Gibson is worth a double nod in my opinion
SteveHelwagen (Dec 19, 2005 1:38:52 PM)
SteveHelwagen (Dec 19, 2005 1:39:57 PM)
Getting a lot of questions that were asked and answered early on. We will shoot for newer questions and refer you to check out the transcript we will post later today.
nevadabuck (Dec 19, 2005 1:41:44 PM)
SteveHelwagen (Dec 19, 2005 1:41:51 PM)
Very good, that makes 19.
redondo (Dec 19, 2005 1:33:22 PM)
Hi Nevada - Now that the legal proceedings are done, is Skeete history at OSU? Thank you.
nevadabuck (Dec 19, 2005 1:34:02 PM)
as far as I know Skeete's career at OSU has gone "up in smoke"...sorry, couldn't resist.
SteveHelwagen (Dec 19, 2005 1:34:31 PM)
New angles on Ausberry ...
redondo (Dec 19, 2005 1:34:35 PM)
Hi Nevada - Welcome to Bucknuts!!! And, welcome to Bucknuts chat!!! Do you agree with speculation that USC has Ausberry on-hold pending what their other revceiver prospects do? Is it a two team race with USC having him as their Plan B and Ausberry having OSU as his Plan B? Thank you.
NYC Buck (Dec 19, 2005 1:34:45 PM)
A bit late to the party...do you see OSU having any chance at Ausberry? Looks like USC might be the place he prefers. Is it hard to bring kids in early who are not ready to committ until January?
nevadabuck (Dec 19, 2005 1:37:00 PM)
Timing on bringing in kids for visits is a tricky thing. You want them to experience the game day in Columbus(which is second to none--but, on the other hand, it is along way from Ocotber until signing day. As for Ausberry, I could see him ending up in Columbus...but have to put that in a long shot category.
AZBUCK (Dec 19, 2005 1:37:14 PM)
What are the chances of getting J. Adjepong to sign?
nevadabuck (Dec 19, 2005 1:38:06 PM)
Jason really really enjoyed his visit. I think we have as good a chance as anyone to sign him. So I guess that is about 20-25%.
SteveHelwagen (Dec 19, 2005 1:42:00 PM)
OK, next theme is guys turning pro early ...
NYC Buck (Dec 19, 2005 1:42:07 PM)
What are the latest rumors about Youboty and Whitner?
TheKaiser21 (Dec 19, 2005 1:43:02 PM)
Got here a little late, any news on Whitner or Youboty staying or leavin?
TheKaiser21 (Dec 19, 2005 1:43:16 PM)
and when will Holmes Announce?
tesjr (Dec 19, 2005 1:43:21 PM)
Did the juniors get the papers from the nfl indicating where they may be drafted?
nevadabuck (Dec 19, 2005 1:43:47 PM)
I will go out on the limb right now and say that both Donte and Ashton return for another season. I'm yet to see a draft board that has them going in the first round--and they seem to be buying into the fact that if you are not a first round pick then its better to stay.
AZBUCK (Dec 19, 2005 1:43:59 PM)
Is there any chance J. Cumberland is going to be a Buckeye?
nevadabuck (Dec 19, 2005 1:44:39 PM)
I would put the odds as very remote that Cumberland gets in..grades, grades, grades. Big time talented guy.
toledobuck24 (Dec 19, 2005 1:44:41 PM)
good job steve! keep up the good monitoring! lol
SteveHelwagen (Dec 19, 2005 1:44:52 PM)
We're trying lot to keep up with, ha ha.
Guest (Dec 19, 2005 1:44:59 PM)
Nevada, what do you hear about Carp's foot...will be be playing on the 2nd?
SteveHelwagen (Dec 19, 2005 1:45:24 PM)
dhillgrp asks about the status of Carpenter and his injury and whether he'll be ready on 01/02/06.
nevadabuck (Dec 19, 2005 1:46:09 PM)
I think Bobby plays...he is just such a tough kid. Hard to imagine him missing his last game. I would say 75-25 that he plays.
Judah Herman #36 (Dec 19, 2005 1:46:19 PM)
Moving on to Aram Olson, Fullback from South Carolina. We got a shot? Did we really offer, and what are our chances?
nevadabuck (Dec 19, 2005 1:46:58 PM)
That offer was a surpise to me. I'm not certain it is a real offer or not.
TheMinnesotaBuckeye (Dec 19, 2005 1:47:07 PM)
What are you hearing about Curt Lukens' career development?
nevadabuck (Dec 19, 2005 1:48:15 PM)
Next year will be a big year for Curt. I look for him to take his game to the next level and be a contributor.
osumack (Dec 19, 2005 1:48:21 PM)
Nevada, if you had to pick one member of this class (currently committed or that WILL be committed) that you or the staff feels is vastly underrated, who would it be and why?
nevadabuck (Dec 19, 2005 1:49:32 PM)
Coleman. Absolute stud. Can play on either side of the ball. 5 Star Player in staff's book.
skeelo (Dec 19, 2005 1:49:39 PM)
out of all the d.b.'s left on the board who are the top two that the staff want? i am hopeful that they are udell and porter in that order.
nevadabuck (Dec 19, 2005 1:50:52 PM)
To be honest I feel that all of those guys are pretty interchangeable. All really really really good players. I think Wallace is being looked at as a WR--or he would be on that list as well.
torontobuck (Dec 19, 2005 1:51:02 PM)
How important is an OSU bowl victory in setting the tone for the many recruiting battles we are sure to be having next year with ND??
nevadabuck (Dec 19, 2005 1:52:12 PM)
Winning is always nice. But exposure is what you crave, and OSU is getting that in abundance. I like victories for how it makes staff feel about their program--and beating ND will be sweet.
Guest (Dec 19, 2005 1:52:26 PM)
Who do you think are the early front runners/ targets for QB in 'next' years class?
SteveHelwagen (Dec 19, 2005 1:52:57 PM)
Question was asked about QB recruits in the junior class, any ideas there?
nevadabuck (Dec 19, 2005 1:54:01 PM)
haven't really spent that much time on the Juniors yet--will after signing day.
yo (Dec 19, 2005 1:54:09 PM)
The line keep dropping. Looks like a lot of money on ND. Whats your final score?
DantheMan (Dec 19, 2005 1:54:14 PM)
I was late to the chat room. Sorry if this was asked: do you see the "smart money" going on OSU near game time?
nevadabuck (Dec 19, 2005 1:54:42 PM)
I like OSU 35-21....
robochef (Dec 19, 2005 1:55:57 PM)
Andy Miller to OSU or does it depend on his Pitt visit. Either him or Ballard at TE could pose problems for opposing teams.
nevadabuck (Dec 19, 2005 1:56:47 PM)
I think we get Miller...he had a GREAT visit....love those TE's that "could" grow into tackles...
royal flush47 (Dec 19, 2005 1:56:53 PM)
Has Ohio State ever had this much talent at QB? Smith, Zwick, Boeckman, Schoenhoft, and now Henton! Seems like we will have 4 QB's that we can win with.
buckatborder (Dec 19, 2005 1:57:00 PM)
Who do you think is the QB of the future? Boeckman, Schoenhoft, or Henton?
nevadabuck (Dec 19, 2005 1:59:02 PM)
Think back when Henton was offered out of camp--there was a lot of head scratching going on in Buckeyeland. Now the kid is Player of the Year(ABJ)....i think JT loves those "dual threat" guys..so I am betting on Henton--but CERTAINLY wouldn't rule out either of the other two who are studs....should be fun to watch
NYC Buck (Dec 19, 2005 1:59:09 PM)
With the OL depth in Ohio this year it seems that OSU put all their eggs in one basket with Smith and Brown. You had to figure Boren was Michigan bound from the start. It seems they are now in chase mode with Browning and going after Thomas late. Do you think they made a mistake not going after Tilley and Nagy?
torontobuck (Dec 19, 2005 1:59:43 PM)
I am a little disappointed in how we did with OLineman this year. The state was absolutely loaded although we got Smith we could have really loaded up at OL. How does the state look for Olineman next year??
nevadabuck (Dec 19, 2005 2:02:02 PM)
I was one of those fooled by Boren--I thought we had a shot(obviously we didn't--so I was wrong). There was something about Tilley and Nagy that just didn't merit an offer(not that they aren't fine players). The important thing to remember that JT will not "reach" if he is not convinced. Smith, Browning, Ballard and Miller would be a pretty good haul in the OL/TE position.
SteveHelwagen (Dec 19, 2005 2:02:36 PM)
Lenix, Wallace and Ausberry were all covered earlier ... read the transcript for those answers (I wish there was a way that those who come in late could go back and read what's been asked and answered). Ok, time is dwindling down, we'll go for some quick hitters.
hehateme (Dec 19, 2005 2:02:51 PM)
does the staff feel that Chris Wells has any shot at all to unseat Pittman?
robochef (Dec 19, 2005 2:03:03 PM)
Will Wells dominate in the army game this year? Or will Ginn have it well balanced?
nevadabuck (Dec 19, 2005 2:03:59 PM)
I don't look for Wells to unseat Pittman. I think Antonio is a stud who will play on Sunday's.
NYC Buck (Dec 19, 2005 2:04:05 PM)
Will Maurice Wells be the odd man out next year at RB? Are there other spots we could utilize his quickness?
nevadabuck (Dec 19, 2005 2:05:07 PM)
You have to find ways to get the ball into Maurice's hands in space---plays are being designed to take advantage of this. He is electric--he just can't fumble.
toledobuck24 (Dec 19, 2005 2:06:15 PM)
Nevada, you have been pretty confindent that this is a top 5-10 class. Rankings don't mean much to me but do you feel that all of our offensive and defensive needs will get met and what position would you like to see more attention giving to by the staff?
nevadabuck (Dec 19, 2005 2:07:26 PM)
toledo..when you go over my Final 19(which I posted earlier) I don't see how anyone could be unhappy with that class....quality from top to bottom...and completely doable..
Judah Herman #36 (Dec 19, 2005 2:07:59 PM)
What's the latest on Devin Jordan? He has been a forgotten man. Is he still even on the team?
nevadabuck (Dec 19, 2005 2:08:30 PM)
still on the team..tough for him to get playing time given our depth...
TheMinnesotaBuckeye (Dec 19, 2005 2:09:05 PM)
I read that Larrimore got Doc Tressel good -- pretending that he committed to UM. So, does this mean extra sprints for Dexter on the first day of practice? LOL (Actually, I think the practical joking shows how comfortable Dexter is with the coaches. Good sign.)
TheKaiser21 (Dec 19, 2005 2:09:11 PM)
Larrimore, Wrestling translation to D line is big time.
NYC Buck (Dec 19, 2005 2:09:17 PM)
Sounds like Larimore's wrestling background will be a huge asset in the trenches. What type of player do you see him becoming? Any comparisons you can think of?
nevadabuck (Dec 19, 2005 2:10:06 PM)
Big time get. Tim Anderson or Luke Fickell or obvious comparisons that leap to mind. great player, great kid. Just another "JT type of player".
Brutusdawg (Dec 19, 2005 2:10:12 PM)
I'm sure I have read this somewhere before, but how is it that you know Cowherd so well?? I really enjoy his show, even if I don't always agree with what he has to say. :)
nevadabuck (Dec 19, 2005 2:11:06 PM)
He was the local sports guy in Las Vegas for a number of years. Him and I go WAY back(before he as married) so there are some great stories........LOL......
redondo (Dec 19, 2005 2:11:13 PM)
Hi Nevada - How many under the radar guys that I believe you mentioned a few weeks ago remain under the radar? Do we pretty much know of everyone now?
nevadabuck (Dec 19, 2005 2:12:04 PM)
there are 5 guys that I am aware of that could still come in for officials that are not being "talked" about on the Internet....
boulderbuck1 (Dec 19, 2005 2:12:07 PM)
Whats up w/ Kylan Robinson? weird how he exploded all of a sudden? any shot?
nevadabuck (Dec 19, 2005 2:13:11 PM)
he was my "sleeper"---staff really likes this guy--and you can't get anymore remote than transferring in from Alaska!! We have a shot...not a great shot..but a shot....could play a number of postions...
NYC Buck (Dec 19, 2005 2:13:16 PM)
Any word on Jamario O'Neal? Just biding his time behind a great group of DBs or did he not pick the system up as quickly as everyone had anticipated?
nevadabuck (Dec 19, 2005 2:13:50 PM)
Jamario will be a great player at tOSU. Period.
Judah Herman #36 (Dec 19, 2005 2:14:16 PM)

nevadabuck (Dec 19, 2005 2:14:48 PM)
NYC Buck (Dec 19, 2005 2:14:58 PM)
Do you see any chance that Chichester plays WR or is he just too tall not to move over to TE. Seems like there is a need for more quality TEs on this team.
nevadabuck (Dec 19, 2005 2:15:29 PM)
I think he ends up as a TE....
passthebuck (Dec 19, 2005 2:15:32 PM)
What ever happened to Sirjo Welch? Prior to fall practice, he was mentioned as a possible starter at CB?

nevadabuck (Dec 19, 2005 2:17:18 PM)
I would love to see it. Seniors have a habit of stepping their games up under JT(ie Kudla, etc...) I look to see the same out of MDA.
SteveHelwagen (Dec 19, 2005 2:17:33 PM)
Great Chat, Nevada and all who attended! I think we set the standard today that if you want to ask a question and get an answer you need it in early (ha ha).

Thanks to all who participated. I will throw out a few of the stray observations we got, then will turn off moderation and you should be able to talk among yourselves.
