In recent years, Avon Lake High School has been known for putting out great teams and Division I-A prospects. But now, neighboring Avon High School could be getting in the mix.
The school hasn't been putting out the powerhouse teams that Avon Lake has, but they have had some winning teams in recent years and now could be producing a Division I prospect as well in junior DB/RB Bobby LaRosa.
LaRosa (6-0, 217) attended Ohio State camp earlier in 2005 and was clocked at 4.6 in the 40 and 4.3 in the shuttle. He also benches 350 pounds and has done 25 reps at 185.
He has rusned for 3,000 yards and 35 touchdowns in his career and has also totaled 11 interceptions on defense, which is his area of preference.
"I love playing defense," he said. "I love to hit... I could see myself as an outside LB."
LaRosa has received some interest from Purdue, Penn State, Bowling Green, and Pittsburgh, in addition to Ohio State. He makes it clear which team he likes the most, but right now he is just looking for opportunities.
"I am a huge Buckeye fan," he said. "I am an Ohio boy. I would love to be a Buckeye but I will play anywhere. I love the game and just want an opportunity to play college football."
This year, LaRosa's team finished .500.
"Our team was young," he said. "We went 5-5. We have a great group of skill players coming back."
LaRosa is a fine overall athlete who could have been an outstanding wrestler but decided to give the sport up.
"I wrestled my freshman year but gave it up to concentrate on football," he said. "I wrestled for eight years. I was fourth in the state one year, 33-2 that year."
LaRosa currently lists a 3.3 GPA and has not yet taken his SAT or ACT.
