BobLichtenfels (Jan 25, 2006 1:07:40 PM)
Thanks, For having me. How is everyone?

boulderbuck1 (Jan 25, 2006 1:07:50 PM)
Do the bucks have a good shot at anyone from Penn next yr, w/ the resurgance of Pitt and PSU?

BobLichtenfels (Jan 25, 2006 1:08:37 PM)
The Bucks will always be a presence here. Nick Sukay and Evan Blankenship are two kids that i like who are very high on the Buckeye's

KevboA22 (Jan 25, 2006 1:08:41 PM)
Question that is a little off topic for the Buckeyes, but is there any word out there about Jeremiah Hunter from Harrisburg? I am from the area, and even around here everything is quiet, and I notice there hasnt been any updates on him on scout or other recruiting services either. I know the Buckeyes were interested in him very early in the process, but what has happened with his recruiting? Any info on him would be appreciated. Thanks and GO BUCKS!

BobLichtenfels (Jan 25, 2006 1:09:48 PM)
A lot of people are questioning his attitude right now. We have tried to get him, but to no avail. He remains a mystery, the word I'm getting is he may announce for PSU this weekend

AZBUCK (Jan 25, 2006 1:10:03 PM)
What's your take on E. Fields...OSU have a chance or is PSU going to offer and get him?

BobLichtenfels (Jan 25, 2006 1:11:11 PM)
Actually I was told last night that he was at the Pitt-Syracuse game on monday with his whole family. He even called Aaron Berry and asked him if he was coming to Pitt with him. So TWIW

BobLichtenfels (Jan 25, 2006 1:11:28 PM)
With his SAT test this weekend it would not shock me if Fields ends up missing the trip

MacAuley (Jan 25, 2006 1:11:36 PM)
How would you asses Notre Dame's recruiting this year?

BobLichtenfels (Jan 25, 2006 1:12:49 PM)
Notre Dame has done very well. The OL class that they have put together is awesome Sam Young, Matt carufel, etc..Raeshon Mcneil is a very nice corner. Darrin Walls was hurt this whole season but he is still an exceptional player

edbuck51 (Jan 25, 2006 1:13:05 PM)
What do you think is the biggest change in State College which has helped them in recruiting the last couple of years?

BobLichtenfels (Jan 25, 2006 1:14:15 PM)
Obviously the Nike camp being there every year helps. The biggest thing i have seen is Mike McQueary their young recruiting coordinator. He is unreal, very fresh and innovative. They have a very good staff that recruits well

BobLichtenfels (Jan 25, 2006 1:14:50 PM)
The biggest key has been Aaron Maybin much like Dorin Dickerosn at Pitt. He has that personality that just attracts others

Hicks74 (Jan 25, 2006 1:14:24 PM)
Wes Lyons is due to announce today ? Your feelings on Devon Lyons moving to Safety. A 6'6" safety ?! I'd be anxious to see that !

KevboA22 (Jan 25, 2006 1:14:27 PM)
Whats the latest news you are hearing regarding Wes Lyons? It seems like the interest between him and Ohio State has been on-again, off-again. Is West Virginia now the team to beat?

BobLichtenfels (Jan 25, 2006 1:15:08 PM)
Lyons wont play safety anywhere

BobLichtenfels (Jan 25, 2006 1:15:46 PM)
I personally think Wes announces for West Virginia. he has said he wants to play early and he will not play early at OSU

jabu349 (Jan 25, 2006 1:15:55 PM)
how worried should we be about ND taking some of our prized possesions next yr??

BobLichtenfels (Jan 25, 2006 1:17:35 PM)
Mich,OSU, PSU, Pitt, and everyone else should be worried. Notre Dame is in on everyone. One thing that usually comes of that is when you spend so much time on kids like Clausen you are taking away from others. These kids require constant attention and it will turn some off

BobLichtenfels (Jan 25, 2006 1:18:38 PM)
OSU will always control Ohio, ND may get a few but OSU will be fine

Kirk (Jan 25, 2006 1:17:54 PM)
I will answer a couple Larry Grant questions real quick since I don't think he's in Bob's focus area...

aspenbuck (Jan 25, 2006 1:18:00 PM)
What is the latest on Larry Grant? If he comes to TOSU is he an instant impact player?

Hicks74 (Jan 25, 2006 1:18:01 PM)
Hi Bob, How much will the Gibson signing affect the need for Larry Grant now, esp with both being questionable grade-wise ?

Kirk (Jan 25, 2006 1:18:29 PM)
Based on what we've heard, Ohio State is in good shape with him. He has West Coast roots, but Oregon would need to have a good visit to pull ahead. We think the OSU staff likes Grant a lot and sees him as a guy who could potentially start next year. As far as need, my personal opinion is this -- with a good defense, Ohio State is a national title contender next year, and if they think Grant is a guy that can be a part of that, then they need him. I'm guessing Grant is fine grades-wise if he was cleared to visit

BobLichtenfels (Jan 25, 2006 1:18:48 PM)
Grant is a stud, 6-3, 225 and he can fly..I think he could be an instant impact type guy if he learns the scheme

edbuck51 (Jan 25, 2006 1:19:06 PM)
Is Henry Hynoski a done deal to PSU?

BobLichtenfels (Jan 25, 2006 1:19:36 PM)
I don't think so. Most schools like PSU are saying LB but i feel he wants to play FB

jabu349 (Jan 25, 2006 1:19:46 PM)
so r we expecting an fsu like signing day?? or r we done?? and whats the deal r we only gonan give out 22 scholarships?? how likely is mcdaniel.. i here from fsu boards he is keeping a low profile

BobLichtenfels (Jan 25, 2006 1:20:45 PM)
McDaniel would be a great fit for OSU. he gets over shadowed at Landstown now by harvin, that's what made no sense to me when he originally chose Florida

BobLichtenfels (Jan 25, 2006 1:21:38 PM)
There's not a lot of prospects that OSU likes that are still on the board. Next year there are a ton of options so they could always hold onto a ship or two

Kirk (Jan 25, 2006 1:22:08 PM)
Bob said earlier that he picked up a tidbit that may suggest Fields to Pitt, and if that's the case, I can't see the class going over 22. I would have to review the schedule of decisions, but off the top of my head I think only Grant is a signing day guy of interest. To me, OSU has already landed an excellent class, and anyone from here is icing on the cake. As far as McDaniel, the vibe after his OSU visit was that he wasn't going to be a Buckeye, but no one knows what he's doing apparently

BobLichtenfels (Jan 25, 2006 1:22:35 PM)
That gives you some wiggle room for transfers, etc...

ginagain (Jan 25, 2006 1:22:58 PM)
Hi Bob, It seem to me, that the recruiting for this year looks good. I feel we have A top class NOT just because * ratings. I think we fill need as much ....or more than most other schools. My Question is......How does next years class compare to others in the past? does next year seem to be bigger in ohio ? Got your Early top 5 recruits?

BobLichtenfels (Jan 25, 2006 1:25:45 PM)
I dont have a top 5 yet in Ohio, there are a number of kids in Ohio and PA that I have seen that I like..Nate Oliver-Sidney Glover-Mark Wetterer-Jordan Mabin-chris smith-Ben Martin-Brandon saine-Donnie Evege in Ohio

BobLichtenfels (Jan 25, 2006 1:26:07 PM)
Ohio will be very deep, there may not be as much high end talent , but a lot of depth

edbuck51 (Jan 25, 2006 1:25:59 PM)
Why do you think Paterno didn't retire after this year? It's hard to imagine him having a chance to go out under better circumstances.

BobLichtenfels (Jan 25, 2006 1:27:36 PM)
Most coaches are scared to quit honestly. I have a former high school coaching colleague of mine and people ask him every year why don't you retire so you can relax. he always say's and "Do what sit around and wait to die?" It sounds grim but it may be the case

TheKaiser21 (Jan 25, 2006 1:28:16 PM)
Is Josh Chichester going to be eligible to sign? word is he's flatlined academically

BobLichtenfels (Jan 25, 2006 1:29:25 PM)
People are very creative with academics in today's day and age, with the internet and everything else. To say a kid won't qualify is tough considering he has a whole semester to finish

Kirk (Jan 25, 2006 1:30:09 PM)
I'm pretty sure our staff is working on that but I'm not sure if what's being said is true or if it is chatter

edbuck51 (Jan 25, 2006 1:30:18 PM)
How do Nike Camp sites get determined. I agree that is an advantage to PSU. Doesn't it seem inequitable to be at one school all of the time? I'm surprised other schools haven't complained or the the NCAA hasn't intervened.

BobLichtenfels (Jan 25, 2006 1:30:43 PM)
People always like to speculate on academics

BobLichtenfels (Jan 25, 2006 1:32:38 PM)
Other schools do complain. I'm not familiar with how they do things, I know how we do ours. We try to map them out logistically so we can get the kids we want into an area say within 300 miles or so. That doesn't give you a lot of wiggle room. Plus you like to get a place with the facilities too handle it. Indoor facilites are great because of the weather factor. I'd love to have combines at OSU

jabu349 (Jan 25, 2006 1:32:51 PM)
and is charlie weis really as arrogant and not a people perosn as everyone says?? ne specific stories??

BobLichtenfels (Jan 25, 2006 1:33:47 PM)
I don't think so, some people just naturally have that persona. The kids don't seem to ever mention that and most of them seem to genuinely like him

Hicks74 (Jan 25, 2006 1:33:57 PM)
Bob, There was a 400 lb center, Nate Hartung from PA who looked good in the Big 33 game a couple of years ago. Do you know what happened to him ? Devon Lyons has moved to safety no ?

BobLichtenfels (Jan 25, 2006 1:34:56 PM)
Nate is on a mormon mission, the last I heard it was supposed to be in New Zealand I believe. I have not heard if Dev was moved, i like him as a WR

edbuck51 (Jan 25, 2006 1:35:27 PM)
How is Rutgers class shaping up this year? Coach Schiano seems like one of the good guys.

BobLichtenfels (Jan 25, 2006 1:36:33 PM)
Rutgers is doing very well. the get a lot of the lower profile recruits from Florida but they're still quality players. The Etienne kid they got may shock some folks in a few years

TheKaiser21 (Jan 25, 2006 1:36:40 PM)
Follow up. What are your thoughts on Tom Lemming and some of his antics for Notre Dame? seems unprofessional at best.

BobLichtenfels (Jan 25, 2006 1:38:53 PM)
LOL..Honestly, it would be unprofessional of me in a setting like this to air my feelings out about him, although I have many. I heard some stories down in Texas that blew my mind. The bad thing is the AA bowl is a great experience and i hate to see it's credibility ruined by anyone. You can tell by looking at our rankings who we would have picked for the rosters

BobLichtenfels (Jan 25, 2006 1:39:29 PM)
It's all about Karma, and eventually it always comes back around

jabu349 (Jan 25, 2006 1:39:06 PM)
should we realistically expect troy smith of TGII to win the heisman???

BobLichtenfels (Jan 25, 2006 1:40:25 PM)
Is he capable? yes he is very capable, but there are a lot of folks out there who will be players for the heisman. Hart-Jarrett-Peterson, etc..

Kirk (Jan 25, 2006 1:40:53 PM)
And as much as Buckeye fans may not like it, the media will be all about Quinn next year too

TheKaiser21 (Jan 25, 2006 1:40:58 PM)
Hart boooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

BobLichtenfels (Jan 25, 2006 1:41:08 PM)
I'm on a karma kick,I think I have been watching that Earl show on NBC too much.

Warrior (Jan 25, 2006 1:41:14 PM)
Right now who are the top 3-5 junior in the state of Pa. How good is Evan Blankenship, who tOSU may have offered?

BobLichtenfels (Jan 25, 2006 1:41:47 PM)
yes, Brady Quinn is another, Slaton, pat White also

BobLichtenfels (Jan 25, 2006 1:42:58 PM)
Pat Bostick-Toney Clemons-steve Paskorz-henry hynoski-Jon Ditto-Stefen Wisniewski-Josh Marks-Nick Sukay

jabu349 (Jan 25, 2006 1:43:41 PM)
what r our chances with the next orlando pace (josh oglesby)????

BobLichtenfels (Jan 25, 2006 1:43:58 PM)
OSU has offered, he camped there last summer. Blankenship is a prototype road grader at guard he could be a likely 4-star type of kid or a very high 3-star

BobLichtenfels (Jan 25, 2006 1:44:58 PM)
It's early, but obviously any Wisconsin kid is going to look at the badgers. Notre Dame is a big player for him as well.

edbuck51 (Jan 25, 2006 1:45:12 PM)
What are you expecting out of Morelli this year? Is he in the Tyler Palko mold?

BobLichtenfels (Jan 25, 2006 1:46:15 PM)
I'm not high Morelli

TheKaiser21 (Jan 25, 2006 1:46:32 PM)
Can You compare Peterson to C. Wells as incoming freshman. I though Peterson was the best Freshman running back ever. Any differences, what would make one better than the other at this point.

BobLichtenfels (Jan 25, 2006 1:47:55 PM)
Peterson is very upright runner but very good, i love Wells he is a beast. Wells is much more physical

Hicks74 (Jan 25, 2006 1:48:08 PM)
Is Wisniewski the relation of the Penn State OG (?) around 1980 for Pitt Central Catholic ? Hynoski's dad, I believe played a year or two with the Browns...from Hofstra..

BobLichtenfels (Jan 25, 2006 1:49:32 PM)
yes leo is his father former PSU player and Baltimore colt. Henry's dad was Henry senior i thought he played at temple, and had a shot with the browns

Warrior (Jan 25, 2006 1:49:35 PM)
Did you happen to notice what type of player Nate Oliver is while beaking down film on Joe Thomas? Is he a S or can he potentially play CB in tOSU's system?

BobLichtenfels (Jan 25, 2006 1:51:03 PM)
I saw St. Ed's in person this year. I have liked nate for the past two years. he is a very athletic kid who brings the ruckus. he sticks his head in there and blows plays up. i like a physical safety. Not sure how well he'd do at CB

edbuck51 (Jan 25, 2006 1:51:18 PM)
Do you rate Mustain is high as most recruiting experts, and do you think the Clausen kid is the second coming? Is Clausen going to be a Domer?

BobLichtenfels (Jan 25, 2006 1:52:26 PM)
No I don't. i like matthew stafford and pat devlin. I think Clausen will go to notre Dame, some kids have already told me he's trying to recruit them there

buckicrazy (Jan 25, 2006 1:52:40 PM)
How good do you think tOSU defense will be next year? Do they make it to 5-0 to start?

BobLichtenfels (Jan 25, 2006 1:53:17 PM)
QB's are all hype usually. Look at a kid like Ricky Stanzi he's as good as most of those guys, just never got the hype

BobLichtenfels (Jan 25, 2006 1:53:36 PM)
I think OSU will compete for the National Championship

Kirk (Jan 25, 2006 1:54:49 PM)
Tough to tell on the Buckeye D, might not know for sure until spring. I think there's a chance they could be real good, but there's also a chance they could have some growing pains a la 2004

Warrior (Jan 25, 2006 1:54:56 PM)
Do you think Pitt could end up having similar success as FSU did in the Mid 80's to Mid 90's with the type of athletes they are recruiting in comparison to the rest of the Big East?

BobLichtenfels (Jan 25, 2006 1:57:17 PM)
Dave Wannstedt has always had a reputation as one of the best recruiters in the country at Pitt, USC, Ok state, Miami. You guys know, if he gets the lions share of Western PA they have to be consider a potential national power down the line. WVU will be hurt if they can't take props, but they will always be tough because that staff evaluates talent as good as anyone. I think Cincy will be decent in a few years also.

BobLichtenfels (Jan 25, 2006 1:57:52 PM)
Now Wannstedt has to answer the question will the recruiting translate into success on the field

GreekBuckeye (Jan 25, 2006 1:57:27 PM)
Do you think ND will be the other participant in the National Championship?

BobLichtenfels (Jan 25, 2006 1:58:39 PM)
Notre Dame very well could be the other team. I look for Michigan to be decent next year also

BobLichtenfels (Jan 25, 2006 1:58:59 PM)

rbuck (Jan 25, 2006 1:58:55 PM)
I see OSU is taking all of these kids that are academic ??, does this mean that they have lowered their standards? Or do they have some work to do??

BobLichtenfels (Jan 25, 2006 2:00:16 PM)
Its tough, just about everyone else will take these kids so why not OSU? Only the player, the college and the high school know for certain a kids true status so its hard for us too speculate

edbuck51 (Jan 25, 2006 2:00:36 PM)
Do you think WVU's performance in the Sugar Bowl is indicitive of what we can expect from the Big East, or do you think their days are numbered in the BCS?

BobLichtenfels (Jan 25, 2006 2:02:08 PM)
i think the Big east will be fine, Pitt and WVU will be very good programs. USF with their size and money, i feel will eventually be another Miami. Will they be the Big ten, No. But they'll be as good as a few of the other conferences

Warrior (Jan 25, 2006 2:02:12 PM)
How does a school like Michigan with a great history of putting kids in the league, whiff on so many QB recruits in one year?

BobLichtenfels (Jan 25, 2006 2:04:04 PM)
Nobody know, look at OSU with lineman, how many have they whiffed on. With the season OSU had i would have thought they land the top 15 kids in the state. Henne is very good, and QB's want too play not sit he will be there for two more years, so I'm sure that deters a lot of QB's from there right now

GreekBuckeye (Jan 25, 2006 2:04:18 PM)
What ever happened to that RB from W. PA that went to Miami? has he played?

BobLichtenfels (Jan 25, 2006 2:05:27 PM)
Andrew johnson, he tore an ACL I believe and has never done very much at all. i heard he tried to transfer back up this way and most told him no thanks

BobLichtenfels (Jan 25, 2006 2:06:28 PM)
Miami will recruit great backs every year, their always recruiting your replacement. Andrew just thought he was better then he was. There was a lot of hype there, except from guys like me who watched him play

BobLichtenfels (Jan 25, 2006 2:07:29 PM)
Revis was the best player in that class

BobLichtenfels (Jan 25, 2006 2:07:31 PM)
from Pennsylvania and henne

Kirk (Jan 25, 2006 2:07:23 PM)
jimmy asks "Do you think that Ray Small will come in next year and contribute?" and if you know about OSU's chances with Kentucky DT Corey Peters

BobLichtenfels (Jan 25, 2006 2:08:56 PM)
Small very well may contribute early. he is a very explosive athlete. usually with freshmen it all depends on how they learn the scheme. Peters will be tough, I guarantee you Micah Johnson is in his ear every other day

TedGinnRulz (Jan 25, 2006 2:09:19 PM)
Bob, what recruits suprised you the most in practice down in San Antonio?

BobLichtenfels (Jan 25, 2006 2:11:31 PM)
Vidal, i knew he was great, but i did not know he was that good. Same could be said for Wells. Rob Rose was very impressive as was justin Boren, Andre Smith , and Sam Young. Odrick and Evans will be very good in a year or two. Brandon graham and brandon Spikes also looked very good...Overall Wells was heads and shoulders above everyone all week

hamiltuckbuck (Jan 25, 2006 2:12:26 PM)
The company line for ND has always been academics stood in the way of recruiting the top players. Did Weis just find that once in a life time smart/athletic group of kids, or has this just been a crutch for poor recruiting all along?

BobLichtenfels (Jan 25, 2006 2:13:40 PM)
I dont think it was a crutch it was a problem for them, it's a huge handicap just like it is at schools like Stanford

BobLichtenfels (Jan 25, 2006 2:14:20 PM)
Most of those schools have very high standards. It's not like their asking to recruit questionable kids, they just want to be able to recruit the same as others do

TheKaiser21 (Jan 25, 2006 2:14:13 PM)
Does ESPN watch film on recruits or do they pull their rankings out of a hat. Correct he if i'm wrong but do you agree with their Ranking of well's? 48th in the country 8th RB

TheKaiser21 (Jan 25, 2006 2:14:15 PM)
What possibly could be the reasoning behind Wells odd ranking?

BobLichtenfels (Jan 25, 2006 2:15:37 PM)
Wells is the #1 player in the nation hands down, it's not even close in my opinion. Beauty is all in the eye of the beholder, we like Wells while others may not. We just have to see what happens during his career

edbuck51 (Jan 25, 2006 2:15:57 PM)
Is the Big 33 game going to stay a good game, or are the changing rules going to have a negative affect in the long run?

BobLichtenfels (Jan 25, 2006 2:17:13 PM)
I dont think it will be good with what Ohio has done. your taking a handful of D-1 kids from Ohio, with marginal kids filling the roster, against the best of the best from PA...It shouldn't even be close

boulderbuck1 (Jan 25, 2006 2:17:28 PM)
Have you heard of any plans for Gwaltney?

Hicks74 (Jan 25, 2006 2:17:30 PM)
Bob, Is Gwaltney done at West VA ?

BobLichtenfels (Jan 25, 2006 2:17:49 PM)
Gwaltney is at nassau CC

BobLichtenfels (Jan 25, 2006 2:18:08 PM)
One or two more questions then i have to run

edbuck51 (Jan 25, 2006 2:18:15 PM)
So you definitely think Peters and Grant would be cherries on top of OSU's recruiting sundae?

BobLichtenfels (Jan 25, 2006 2:18:38 PM)
without a doubt

Kirk (Jan 25, 2006 2:19:10 PM)
Bob, wanted to get your thoughts on Andy Miller before you go since we haven't talked about him. What are your thoughts on him as a player?

BobLichtenfels (Jan 25, 2006 2:20:12 PM)
Andy is a porspect. i think it will be two years for him to get accustomed to that leve and be ready physically

BobLichtenfels (Jan 25, 2006 2:20:28 PM)

Kirk (Jan 25, 2006 2:20:41 PM)
Ok Bob, thanks for your time today. We appreciate it and hope to have you back again soon!

Guest (Jan 25, 2006 2:20:43 PM)
Glad to have you back in the saddle, thans for a great chat.

BobLichtenfels (Jan 25, 2006 2:20:53 PM)
