Monaca (Pa.) Center Area junior offensive lineman Evan Blankenship already has a scholarship offer from Ohio State. We caught up with Blankenship (6-3, 305, 5.1) recently to discuss his college choices.

He discussed how his OSU offer came about.

"I started going to their camp after my freshman year and I went back last year after my sophomore year," Blankenship said. "After the camp last year, Coach Tressel called me into his office. He sat down with me and my mom and told me they would like to give me a scholarship. That was in June. He said they would send me a letter in September with the offer.

"On Sept. 1, sure enough, I got the letter in the mail."

Blankenship, who also has an offer from Pittsburgh, attended three OSU home games last season – Texas, Iowa and Michigan State. He also attended one game at Pitt and one game at Notre Dame.

He has ties to the Buckeye state.

"I have family that lives in Ohio," he said. "My dad grew up in East Liverpool and my mom has some relatives on her side that live somewhere near Columbus."

This summer, Blankenship plans on attending one day of camp at OSU. He will also attend camp at Pitt and wants to attend other camps as well.

"I am receiving letters from every Big Ten team," Blankenship said. "I am also hearing from places like Clemson, West Virginia, Maryland, Penn State, Wisconsin, Iowa, Virginia and Boston College.

"It is pretty exciting right now hearing from these schools. But I'm trying to keep it in perspective and keep working hard."

He said he is in no hurry to make his college choice.

"I will talk to my mom about it," he said. "I think I am going to be taking some official visits. I'm leaning toward taking all five of my visits."

Blankenship has logged three seasons as a starting offensive tackle. Last year, he helped Center Area post a 10-2 record.

"I have been an offensive tackle my whole career," Blankenship said. "But I will probably move to guard. Coaches are saying that when I get to college I would probably move to guard or center.

"I think I excel at pass blocking. I think I have pretty good feet."

Blankenship has a 3.0 GPA and will take college entrance exams in April.
