Cleveland Central Catholic center Jantel Lavender is arguably the top girls basketball player in Ohio in the 2007 class.

There had been rumblings that the 6-4 Lavender had recently given a verbal commitment to Ohio State, but CCC head coach Melvin Burke refuted such notions.

"Jantel has not committed yet," Burke said. "She's going to the Boo Williams event this weekend and then she's going to start narrowing her list down."

As a junior in 2005-06, Lavender averaged 20.7 points, 14 rebounds and 4 blocked shots per game. She was named first-team All-Ohio and the Northeast Lakes District co-player of the year. She is ranked as a national top-15 player according to fullcourt.scout.com.

Lavender could go to any college in the country and she is considering five excellent programs.

"She's looking at Ohio State, Tennessee, Maryland, Penn State and Connecticut," Burke said. "I don't think she has a favorite right now. She's wide open."

According to Burke, Lavender is not close to making a decision.

"She wants to go on all her visits before she decides," he said.
