hi everyone, thanks for coming today! nevadabuck welcome. Feel free to send in your questions and we can get started.
Heater (May 15, 2006 9:52:55 AM)
I received a card from his parents over the weekend and they seem like tremendous parents as the respond to a parent's nightmare. What’s the latest on Tyson Gentry?
nevadabuck (May 15, 2006 9:54:08 AM)
I have to be careful about what I say about Tyson...but let it suffice to say that everyone is cautiousluy optimistic....
tony spilotro (May 15, 2006 9:54:16 AM)
nevada, who do you think are our best chances are with getting DLmen in this class
nevadabuck (May 15, 2006 9:55:53 AM)
I think we haven't even scratched the surface with DLine candidates...Barksdale is probably the top guy we are in on currently(along with Martin)....but it is SO early in the evaluation process...
kleintime16 (May 15, 2006 9:56:03 AM)
Hey Kirk and Nevada, I was looking at an old chat the other day and came across this quote "nevadabuck (Jan 16, 2006 1:18:33 PM) I think you will see a raft of early offers soon after signing day....I think OSU is well positioned to pick off a number of early commits..probably more than any other time in the Tressel era..." I am curious as to what happened to made this either fall through or if Nevada simply misread some choices of the high schoolers
nevadabuck (May 15, 2006 9:58:40 AM)
Klein...OSU has handed out over 25 offers to prospects across the country(all after signing day)---I've expected Evege to fall any day(I did not see Saine commit coming, but it was a pleasant surprise!)...tough to predict with certainty "when" an 18 year old is going to do anything....LOL...but the offers are out there....
hammbone1928 (May 15, 2006 9:58:50 AM)
Who are the oos QB's State has offered, besides Garcia who they are not recruiting anymore. Do you think they will take 1 this yr. & what type?
nevadabuck (May 15, 2006 10:00:12 AM)
I think we will take one QB this year, and I think it will be instate. I expect tht we will "have our man" after camp, when the staff has a chance to evaluate the players side by side(like last year)......
JimC (May 15, 2006 10:00:20 AM)
Hi NB, Will O'Dowd end up a Buckeye?
nevadabuck (May 15, 2006 10:03:45 AM)
I think we have a very good shot at ODowd and Blankenship...throw in one "instate" guy(Schepsis...etc...) and I think we are set....
toledoBuck24 (May 15, 2006 10:03:50 AM)
Nevada, who are the coaches thinking of starting in the secondary now that spring is over? Also, do we have a real shot at the recruits in Michigan and besides Barksdale who does the staff feel good about getting a commit from if any?
nevadabuck (May 15, 2006 10:08:21 AM)
I think the starting seconday coming out of the spring probably looks like Patterson and ONeal at the safties, and Smith and Jenkins at the corners.....this year is actually a good one for prospects in Michgan and I think we have a legitimate shot at Allen(among others)....JT has made Michigan a "mini recruiting" priority, and has been very well received by the HS coaches ......
Heater (May 15, 2006 10:08:26 AM)
Romance Taylor…how does his 5 pounds of pot effect the Ohio State – Texas game?
Heater (May 15, 2006 10:08:29 AM)
Oops...misspelled Ramonce as Romance.
nevadabuck (May 15, 2006 10:09:50 AM)
I am counting on one of the other occupants of the car to step up and "take the bullet" for Mr Taylor......this kid is in academic trouble already, so he may not be long for the world.....not that it matters, as we beat them anyway...lol
mckbuckeye (May 15, 2006 10:09:57 AM)
Nevada-why are schools like Texas and USC getting so many players to verbal early and we only have 2 verbal commits?
nevadabuck (May 15, 2006 10:12:45 AM)
Texas is a bit of an anomaly(as they have virtually no "major" competition in a talent rich state)...USC is on a roll.......JT is just a very very careful man by nature, and at the end of the day, who cares??? you can only sign so many prospects in a year anyway.....so what's the rush?? isn't more evaluation better than less?? let alone injuries, bad senior year performance, or other factors......I love JT's slow and steady approach....it works
buckatborder (May 15, 2006 10:12:50 AM)
whats with the rumor posted on the board earlier this week about Troy being in trouble? anything to that?
nevadabuck (May 15, 2006 10:13:29 AM)
I hope that is not the case....
SCOTTREHM (May 15, 2006 10:13:44 AM)
Hey Nevada, I really enjoy your info. The million dollar question who wins the battle for Ben Martin. I can't stand ND, they are off to a great class. The idea of losing Ben and overall battle sickens me!
nevadabuck (May 15, 2006 10:14:54 AM)
I think ND has a real good shot at Martin...but I would not bet against JT in these types of situations.....Martin is a "Tressel-type" of recruit, and we do not lose many of those....
buckgrad (May 15, 2006 10:15:03 AM)
Hey there Nevada, what are our chances with Hughes? And do you think that an offer to him says anything about Saine maybe being a wr or safeft?
nevadabuck (May 15, 2006 10:16:48 AM)
I think we are in good shape with Hughes(and several other RB's for that matter)....Saine is versatile enough to play elsewhere, but I think he starts at RB(as he is SO explosive)----never can recruit too much speed can you???
ronbucks (May 15, 2006 10:17:22 AM)
Is Small in or not?
nevadabuck (May 15, 2006 10:17:51 AM)
Yes I believe he will be part of this class.
buckeyescott (May 15, 2006 10:18:03 AM)
Nevada--Who do you think will be the starters on D come fall??
nevadabuck (May 15, 2006 10:21:13 AM)
I would go with Pitcock, Patterson, Richardson and Wilson on the dline. LB's wil be Laurinatis, Kerr and Freeman. With ONeal, Patteson, Smith and Jenkins ib defensive backfield. LOTS of speed on this team.
rbuck (May 15, 2006 10:21:48 AM)
Is Clifford still a Buckeye?
Royal Flush47 (May 15, 2006 10:21:50 AM)
nevadabuck (May 15, 2006 10:22:13 AM)
yes I believe that Clifford will be a Buckeye.
tony spilotro (May 15, 2006 10:22:20 AM)
if you could have 5 players regardless of needs, offers, all that....who would they be
nevadabuck (May 15, 2006 10:24:32 AM)
I would take Martin, ODowd, Blankenship, Barksdale and Clay
givensbc (May 15, 2006 10:24:42 AM)
with small in but DJ apparently out WR is the next biggest need next to the OL and DL. Who do you see us taking? and do givens and Hubbard get the in state offers??
nevadabuck (May 15, 2006 10:27:19 AM)
I think Jefferson from Glenville will get a LONG look, I like Adrien Robinson from Indiana, Toney Clemons from PA and probably 5 guys down in Florida that could all help(we will land at least ONE wide receiver from Florida this year)
kleintime16 (May 15, 2006 10:27:31 AM)
Hey Nevada, does Jermale Hines eventually get an offer or does OSU simply not take anyone from G-Ville this year?
nevadabuck (May 15, 2006 10:28:42 AM)
I think Hubbard gets an offer. Not sure about Givens. And I think that Hines will get an offer. Gotta keep the Glenville "pump primed"....
buckatborder (May 15, 2006 10:28:54 AM)
Chris Smith is coming on strong, think he will see an offer after camp? Is he coming to camp?
nevadabuck (May 15, 2006 10:30:15 AM)
You can never be sure on camp attendees until they show up. But as I stated earlier, I believe we will find our man at camp this year. The competition should be great.
JimC (May 15, 2006 10:30:23 AM)
Any news on the Strength and conditioning coach. Was it really mutual and who will be his replacement?
nevadabuck (May 15, 2006 10:33:02 AM)
Mike C is the "obvious" choice, unless their is a "licensing and accredidation" issue(which I do not believe is the case)-----JT has a long history with him so this would be an upset if it were anyone else(and he is popular with the players). As for Johnson's departure, I think the less said here the better---but nothing happens by accident within this program.
buckgrad (May 15, 2006 10:34:19 AM)
Nevada, whats the word on the street with wrs this year? With DJ out, who do you think we end up with?
nevadabuck (May 15, 2006 10:37:07 AM)
I threw a few names out earlier but I would add Clear(from VA), Bobo(from PA) and Johnson(from LA) as all guys that look really good on tape, and have legitimate OSU interest...
calibuckeye (May 15, 2006 10:37:12 AM)
Nevada, who is the QB in 07?
nevadabuck (May 15, 2006 10:39:48 AM)
the crystal ball says.....I'm saying that Antonio Henton storms by both Robbie S and Todd B and steals the job....but I'm truly guessing, as we have three good ones to choose from(UNLESS of course, that Jimmy Clausen decommits from Notre Dame and comes to OSU to "save" us....LOL)
Kirk (May 15, 2006 10:40:41 AM)
Cavball asks "Nevada-- you hear anything on some position shuffling within the defense?"
nevadabuck (May 15, 2006 10:43:27 AM)
not alot...I'm seeing Mitchell at nickel, with Coleman and Amos both playing well. We are hoping that freshman or two can step up and play corner for us as well. That would be a nice surprise. We have a real lack of experience at LB, but a TON of able bodies. Love seeing Hoobler play well in the spring, Throw in Spitler, Grant, Homan along with the starters and you have a "high class" problem. Same thing on the dline with Gholson, Barrow, Denlinger and Abdallah all having fine springs.
Luckeye (May 15, 2006 10:43:33 AM)
Why does it seem that TOSU have trouble recruiting in the Cincy area. Is it lack of talent or had ND put its fence back up around it? I personally don't see how any player from Ohio that receives an offer can turn it down.
nevadabuck (May 15, 2006 10:46:12 AM)
Cinci for a long time was dominated by the "parochial" schools that automatically have a built in ND bias. Lets face it, Cooper NEVER connected with the HS coaches the way that JT has---that is just a fact. Kids tht were 12 and 13(when JT started) are now HS seniors---give JT a couple more years of success and the fence will be securely in place.
hammbone1928 (May 15, 2006 10:46:32 AM)
I got disconnected how many WR's do you think we will get this yr?
nevadabuck (May 15, 2006 10:47:00 AM)
I think we take two. Three if a great on pops up.
calbuck79 (May 15, 2006 10:47:03 AM)
Nevade In my spare time...lol tuned into the texas longhorns website and noticed they jumped out with 12 recruits for 07. OSU has 2 and wondering are we just slow or being picky on offers for the 07 class?
nevadabuck (May 15, 2006 10:47:51 AM)
We are being picky(as is JT's nature). Slow and steady, but he always delivers a top class with fewer and fewer academic liabilities.
kleintime16 (May 15, 2006 10:48:14 AM)
Of the reaminging Ohio High top ten, Martin, Clifford, Belton, Torrence, Solomon Thomas, Brian Gamble, Hines and Jerimiah, Who do you think ends up in S&G? and you can also eliminate clifford from that list as you mentioend he should be a buckeye
nevadabuck (May 15, 2006 10:51:07 AM)
I think we would get Clifford, Torrence, Gamble, Hines pretty easily. Martin and Jeremiah will be toss ups. Not sure about Thomas(but not as optimistic). Belton will have to "earn" his offer at camp. If he is the best one there, he will be a Buckeye.
bucks4fun (May 15, 2006 10:51:19 AM)
Whats the latest on the SC issue? Has the NCAA arrived wearing rubber gloves?
nevadabuck (May 15, 2006 10:52:17 AM)
watch the lawsuit against the Bush family...has some real interesting tidbits.....Jarrett is going to get a couple of games(mark my words).....
Kirk (May 15, 2006 10:52:22 AM)
Ok NB's gotta run, so we will make this our last question today:
buckatborder (May 15, 2006 10:52:37 AM)
NB, why is it im reading staff only wants 2 OL? any truth to that? If so, both will be out of state is my guess. Blankenship and O'Dowd?
nevadabuck (May 15, 2006 10:54:13 AM)
don't believe everything that you read....I'm hearing three(not the seven that many of you want.....LOL).......we are being highly selective.....I see one(or two) instate) and one(or two) OOS...we will be fine, as we only lost two seniors on the line this year....patience young Buckeyes....lol
Kirk (May 15, 2006 10:54:43 AM)
Ok everyone, thanks so much for coming today. Thanks NB
kleintime16 (May 15, 2006 10:54:45 AM)
nevadabuck (May 15, 2006 10:54:52 AM)
thanks all! Go Bucks!!
